* FIXED * iMovie Export Failing - Stalling, Error or Crashing at 75% - Resolved on iPad or iPhone
I ran across this when trying to export a long movie with many clips. When I went to export and save the movie in 1080p and it would stall at 75% and never finish. I found others explaining the fix here on KZbin but I didn’t think they showed the fix very well so I wanted to make my own video to hopefully help others.

This method didn't work for me, but I really appreciate your time in putting this video together. I think I have a newer version of iMovie, so perhaps that's why. I noticed that you got to select the file size whereas I didn't. I still suspected that it was due to a file size issue even though I have 112 GB of free space. I found the place (somewhere new) where you select the export file size and changed it from 4K to 1080P. That did the trick for me, hopefully my comment will help someone else. I was shocked when I saw that he was able to select 360p and that could be useful when you have lower grade footage as at that point having a larger size would be pointless and just be a waste of space!! It seems like they just keep taking features away from iMovie... I remember when you were also able to select full frame, but how you are just stuck with widescreen... As to why you can't also have it saved with the same ratio (Height and width) while still being able to decide how large you want your video file is beyond me, cause you should not have to deal with any black horizontal or vertical lines on live videos/etc if they have a ratio other than full (4 by 3) or the most commonly used widescreen type (16 by 9)...

I have an issue that happens fairly often regardless as to whether or not I do a lot of work on a video (With how much products from Apple costs, you would think that issues would be quite rare). I get timing of the clips and the sound to my liking on the iMovie program, but when I have saved my video creation all of a sudden the sound will be off at parts (The most common issue is the sound being loud to the point of not being properly audible outside of the iMovie program) and at times some of the sounds will be moved a bit so that the timing is noticeably off... All of this makes no sense to be whatsoever... Again, I make the video and everything about it is fine when testing it/playback when it is still in the iMovie program but when saved to my MacbookAir any number/s of the issues mentioned above can happen, so my video may be fine or not... I have tried removing and reinstalling iMovies but it does not solve anything... If you know of any possible workarounds, program extensions or any ways to predict when any of these might happen, it would be greatly appreciated :)@@SupercarRanch

No you just need to detach it. Then it should export fine.

Do you have any filters on any of the clips? Or videos or sounds overlapping? I’ve seen other things like that also cause a video to not export. If all of the clips are completely unmodified, then I’d recommend trying to duplicate the project front before iMovie home screen

Yeah try the same thing. Detach audio and if you don’t need it, delete it. If that still doesn’t work, maybe try to fully duplicate the project and see if the new project exports.

I hope I can help. This happened to me as well a couple months after I made this video. I was puzzled. What I found was that one of my clips I put a filter on the video in iMovie and that somehow screwed it up. I was able to figure that out my going one by one on each clips I "modified" until it let me finally export. Step 1 - clone the project in iMovie to preserve your original project, just in case. Then, look at any clips where you have any sort of modification. Whether that be filter, text, or a music track playing at the same time, etc. Delete elements that are unnecessary and try to export. If none of that works, then it may be the video file itself of one of the clips is corrupt. Then you may need to find which clip and remove it, or duplicate the file of that clip in your Photos on your device, then try to upload it again. If none of that works, and you LOVE the original project, there is one last ditch effort. You can go to iMovie and play the entire project in Theater mode and turn on screen capture on your device and let it capture the entire thing into one large video file. This will work, but may slightly degrade the quality of the video. So, if you have a nice 4K video or something it may not be as perfect. Bottom line is iMovie is easy to use by has a lot of quirks if you throw a complex project at it. I've been using Premier or Rush lately for complex projects. Hope this helps and good luck!
