My tip is go thru all the toy boxes and throw out old broken stuff w missing parts and wheels etc but do it before Christmas like I do mine before the holidays before Thanksgiving

Have you ever thought about putting their beds in an L shape with the white nightstand at the top? Also my tip is have a schedule of times they can play, watch tv and maybe craft or read a book? I know it’s hard. I have 4 kids and I had the hardest time getting them to help me help them. I love watching you clean. Makes me get up and clean my house too lol. Thanks girl🙏🏼

I usually do the toy and clothing donating in the beginning of November. I pay attention to the children’s toy preferences and I minimize toys by letting the children know that those toys go to children who don’t have what they have and remind them that God will provide for more things when we give. It gives me time and space during Christmas. This year we were blessed to not celebrate our “traditional” Christmas by buying presents and just spent it at church. God still blessed the children with so many toys and clothing through their family. They have new clothes and toys so it worked out for all of us. ❤

You are teaching necessary life skills that are important for everyone to learn: picking up after yourself, taking care of your possessions, being responsible. You all feel better now, I'm sure, with the rooms tidied up!

Hi Selma! Great job on that room transformation! It warms my heart to see the kids taking ownership with their toys! Looks like you have a great relationship with them! 🩷🩷💙💙🩵

That was amazing!! You are by far the queen of decluttering. So satisfying ❤❤❤

What worked for my kid was grabbing a small amount of things (toys, tshirts, games) and telling him that we want a clean space that he deserves and to maybe let go of things he doesnt play with. I told him no pressure and he doesnt need to get rid of any if he doesnt want to. And i sat with him as he made those choices. It wasnt overwhelming since i brought out maybe 10 things and then that was it. I didn't bring out more, i just waited for another day to redo it again. We got rid of over 70% of his things by his choice. And some days he chose to declutter more. ❤
@BABYJam2510 ай бұрын
Also, nothing gets added in unless something gets added out. Clothes too, he puts them away. We have those cube bins and he has to just fold his shirts in half and stack it. Idc if its inside out. We declutter day of if the outfit doesn't fit, we immediate donate, rather than going through a pile and seeing what does and doesn't fit.

Okay and one more thing lol sorry if this is annoying. Ive been decluttering since 2017 so i like to give tips if it helps any families since I tried so many trial and errors and it wasnt perfect. When we did toys it wasnt just "okay lets Declutter" I was also playful and encouraging and said "oh yea you like that toy, its really cool" and showed that they made a good choice keeping it that way he knew I was on his team so when I had an input of that he didn't like that one ball because its an outside ball and i say "i notice you play on your bike or scooter so maybe this one can go?" Then he agrees with me.

I've always included the kids when I do " keep or give away" because if I take it upon myself they will be looking for the one thing I toss that they haven't even used in forever lol....so I have 2 kids and I take them individually and do what you did, show them and they make a choice...if I know they don't play w it I sometimes have to make the executive decision 😉😝 as for clothes I swap out summer/ winter clothes seasonally and keep what I think will fit the next season and donate the rest. You did great! And you did clean! It's exhausting to declutter, on the mind and body. I think it's great to have the kids involved so that they feel empowered ♥️ Happy New Year ♡

Good job! I put my kids’ stuffed animals on top shelf in the closet, and then I got one of those net things, hung it in the corner of their room, so, when they wanted to play with one I would get it down. Guess what? When I did that they NEVER asked for not a one. Made it real easy on what to do with them the next time we decluttered. They never “played” with them when they were in reach, they would just throw them around & at each other anyway. Smh, kids. I would also keep all the water guns, 🏈 🏀⚽️🏐⚾️🥎🥏🥅🛼 in the garage in a bin, outside/summer toys were never in the house in the winter. Saved us a lot of room and from accidents. The kids really did good with participation. Great video! Happy New Year!,🥳😀

Definitely the motivation I needed. I love the tips and I actually said I was going to get the girls involved in helping declutter their toys this time around because it can be really hard when you do it on your own and then they get disappointed if you throw something away that they really like. I enjoyed the decluttering video! ❤

Yes, thanks Selma for the much needed motivation!! I decluttered so much before we moved and I know I will continue to do so. I pretty much purged all my kids clothes that no longer fit them. Some tips I can give is go through their clothes every 2-3 months kids grow so fast and donate whatever doesn't fit them. My oldest in particular is like that where she'll tell me she likes something so I'll buy it and either she'll wear it once or not at all. Drives me crazy lol so I end up just passing it down to my second oldest. Yes, Def involve them while decluttering and ask them what's the most important thing to them if they don't play with it within a few months donate it. I know so many of us can relate to them keeping something and then not touching it. I also used to be the worst about keeping stuff 😂 now I can part with stuff much easier. I just see it as a blessing for someone else. Thanks again Selma! Can't wait for more to come 😊
