Very gentle with the cables, very careful with the vaccums. Seriously, that is why I am afraid of cleaning my GPU. One mistake and you are done.

Do i have to reapply thermal paste after removing the heatsink? Because i only want to clean the heatsink

If you remove the heatsink, yes. If you had the card for 2 years without changing it and running it hard, yeah I would change it. But if you only had the card for lets say 6 months nah, I wouldn't bother taking it apart and changing it. I would just take off the front cover without taking off the heatsink. I would just clean the fans, clean the top of the heatsink, use a brush to loosen dust and blow as much dust out of the card as you can with canned air. If you had it for 2-3 years you could change the thermal paste and follow the other steps too but I would also order the thermal pads just incase they tear when opening it up. Not all thermal paste last the same time, some harder and dry out before others do.

Check it when you do the heat sink. If it looks fine then you should be ok. It breaks off and its in bad nick. You should probably replace. Good advise from Unknown as well.

I imagine that every one’s environment is different. For example, I have 2 cats 🐈 and 2 dogs 🐶. But, just a guesstimate: how often does this need to be done?

Well you can probably judge by the dust in your computer? :)

use an air can on the fans every time you open to clean your pc, as far as changing paste, maybe once every couple of years, thermal pads you don't need to worry about unless you visually see them dried out or torn.

Apply it gently should be fine. Depends also probably on the brush. Try it softly first and see if its ok.

yes you can, just make sure it's fully dry when you put it back on.
