For one, Tia Is an absolute beast. But watching her pace back and forth I don't think she was only thinking about lifting the bar from the ground. She's really pissed off about the cuts and you can see that on her face. You can tell in her post competition interview. You can tell by the way she walked off the floor. It's not just us true fans of CrossFit who have been following CrossFit for quite sometime now that think the programming and scoring this year is taking away opportunities from strong, abled, very athletic competitors. But also the Athletes themselves are feeling this way. And it's showing.

They are all taking PEDs. Crossfit does not test properly out of competition. Unless they switch to a Anti-Doping program like the UFC has with whereabouts and 24/7/365 all the athletes will just cycle off before regionals. Its an IQ test, not a drug test.

Probably 80 percent of the heavy lifters were cut on like the first event! Maybe have this on the first day next time and wait until at least the 3rd event to make cuts. Even invite less competitors if that's what it takes...

Lot of negative comments about the structure. I get it.. I agree the structure and the order of events sucked for some heavy lifters. However, the CrossFit Games isn’t solely about heavy lifters. A well rounded athlete will be proficient in all areas of athleticism. Tia is the new standard.....

Great event and well done Tia doing Australia proud. Some of the other comments on here about testing for drugs. Lets face it even if there were drugs they still have to do the work. It is not take drugs and then you can lift heavy. Just appreciate that due to training and diet woman are becoming stronger and that Crossfit and all sports are better for it. So put away that pride that us men have and just admit these women have worked hard and deserve a lot of praise. I for one love that Crossfit has both men and women and they are all paid the same.

Having the cuts before this event was really a shame. There are so many amazing lifters who we will never get to see because of the earlier events that did not favor this sort of strength at all. Tia did not even really get to be challenged at this event, it would have been so much more entertaining to see her go head to head with a bunch of other badass lifters instead of really only one. She definitely could have gone way higher than that final weight and it would have been so much more fun to have a chance to see a real showdown. The is cuts system executed in this way is just so unfair and makes it so only a very select few athletes actually have a chance to shine and show how amazing they are. Especially given that all of the earlier events did not favor lifting in the slightest yet many were gymnastic heavy. If they want to do cuts like this they need to at least make it fair with the programming.
@Rizzerio1
@Rizzerio1 5 жыл бұрын
Ok so an amazing lifter gets first place in this events but bombs every other event...does that even matter? I don't think people understand that you have to be pretty good at everything in crossfit and excellence is a detriment XD
@shannonmarie1018
@shannonmarie1018 5 жыл бұрын
@@Rizzerio1 I 100% agree that anyone in the top 10 should be good at everything crossfit. But three of the top 10 girls bombed this event because the earlier programming was made to work to their strengths. If the lifting event was earlier they might not have made it in top ten even though they obviously have other amazing talents and are well-rounded athletes. Really though, I just think its more entertaining to see a bunch of people excel at every event and play to their crazy strengths. I do not believe an athletes who's only strength is lifting should win the games, but I would still just like to be able to see such a display of talent like we were able to in the earlier events before the cuts with their gymnastics or running. Obviously every women in the top 10 is a complete badass, but I would enjoy being able to watch more women do crazy things and succeed in an event than just 2 or 3. I understand why they wanted to change to a cuts system but I just personally think they could have done better making the earlier cut events more well-rounded to let others have a shot to shine too. We didnt get to see a number of fantastic athletes and that's a shame.

This signifies the problem with this programming that led to the final cuts. Pearce, Adams, and Shadburne fail the opening lift. Helgadottir barely got out of the first round. All four were in the top ten simply because they got the events that were in their wheelhouse in the opening events but aren't capable of doing heavy barbell workouts. These cuts made Toomey's weekend far easier as there was nobody left to compete in heavy barbell events except for Barnhart.

was really looking forward to this games, really enjoyed it last year. This cutting is ridiculous though a lot of favorites people want too see are not there anymore. Don't get me wrong the girls in the top 10 are all awesome in their own right but there are girls cut that would have done brilliantly in this but because the barbells didn't come earlier they didnt have the chance show their strengths. I feel sorry for the spectators that spent hundreds if not thousands of pounds to get there to watch some of the 'top 10' fail the opening weight of an event in which people were cut would have managed with ease... sounds like a great spectacle to me... I thought my weekend would have been reserved to watch the games, but i was very much mistaken... Oh and Tia just looks like a mix between focused and annoyed :')

Honestly im not interested in watching anymore this year. It was pathetic last night watching the athletes who won the Sprint event not being able to snatch a 55lb dumbell or the following event snatch squat 215lb because they aren't strong enough. It was dumb that the athletes went one at a time like a powerlifting meet. I got bored very quickly. I did love that Tia said it was wrong to send the 11 to 20 group home and not let them compete and the crowd roared in approval. This year on all angles is a complete fuck up from the events, the cuts, the rogue announcers, the rap music in the background, etc.

The sacrifice athletes make to train, and attend these games only to be cut... you can say suck it up you are lucky to be there. That’s a cop out. If the athletes were getting a salary by CrossFit well then fine, but that’s not the case. The athletes who were elite, and got cut have no comeback chance, and loose exposure for themselves their business, and for CrossFit itself. CrossFit is cutting the legs out from their athletes, and the sponsors like Rogue Reebok Et who get lots of exposure from the popular athletes competing. This new Format is FUBAR...

Tia is the best and would probably win even if her main weightlifting rivals where still their (Alessandra Pichelli, Kara Web and Brooke Wells) but it would have been more of a competition.

I happen to love the Games so far this year. That being said I understand where everyone is coming from. What I try to remind myself is that human beings came up with this new system and humans are notorious for being flawed in many ways. One good thing about CrossFit is they tend to recognize their mistakes and learn from them. Let's hope this is the case again.

There’s regular women at my gym who can clean 215. This cut has not given us the fittest on earth

I think you underestimate what those woman did before that event. Just imagine how tired their bodies are after all the other events. The last one was like 1 hour before this one. Also is not the they did just 1 clean. Anw I didn't like the cuts either. It would be better if 20 women competed today and the last cut was done after this event

Stephy Rhoades not much of an overall test of fitness if you cut based on certain events than if that’s the case you need weight classes the good heavy lifters won’t win a sprint... and the lighter better runners won’t win the lifts, this year wasn’t a test of fitness...

what stupid format, no disrespect but 3 of top 10 cudnt lift opening weight... this cut system is outright stupid. jst bcoz someones best event comes early or late determines top 10??? what if this event was before sprint we wud have a different top 10!!! what does that say about fairness n merit???

Yeah, Dave got plenty of complaints, I do agree if sprint and clean were switched only like 5 or 6 guys would still be in the top 10. Hopefully 2020 will be better programmed.

It's called competing as it is, there will never be a 'perfect' system. If someone wants to win badly enough, they will train to identify their weaknesses and improve them.

People are hating these cuts, but look how Fraser and Tia Toomey still rise up and dominate. I think the cuts give a chance for people to make it to the finals who otherwise wouldn't. Who can say that possibly next year a different program won't allow more heavy weight lifters to make it to the final 10 while eliminating those with speed? The bottom line is that you get to see the top 10 in the spotlight, which makes for higher stakes and more drama. As a spectator, I like the format, but I can see why athletes are peeved, because this sport demands such incredible dedication and doesn't give you much back except being super ripped of course.
