I had to reinstall Insider Preview 24H2 from recovery usb last week and bit locker turned on automatically. Turned it off immediately when I noticed.

Agree. You don't get something for nothing... As a example, over the years I have always disliked clever animations during some program installations because it's taking "clock cycles" away from the CPU's job of INSTALLING. Does this mean that new machines with 24H2 will come with encrypted hard drives? Sigh. Gotta make backups more often in case I get locked out of my machine. :/

The way i understand it is that this bitlocker issue doesn't affect those using windows 11 home version or people who upgraded from win 10 to win 11. It only affects those who bought the new copilot plus pc's.

Unfortunately this isn't the case. This affects home users too. Microsoft wants full disk encryption by default for all Windows 11 computers.

@@Damariobros dude they already said it will not affect you if you are on windows 11 home because windows 11 home does not come with Bitlocker. How can they enavble something by default that is not even in your OS that doesn't make sense! I am on win 23H2 home version and have searched through my computer an there is no bitlocker!

@@billyguthrie3176 You may not have heard this but at the same time they were beginning this default bitlocker enabled bullshit, Microsoft opened up Bitlocker to Windows 11 Home, and made it no longer a pro and enterprise only feature.

@@billyguthrie3176 As far as I know, Microsoft made bitlocker available to Windows 11 Home at the same time they were starting this whole default enabled saga. It was part of the reason it blew up so hard in the first place, because the inevitable outcome was that old boomers would start losing their data to the recovery screen when their pc breaks and they take it to tech support.

well the reality is microsoft changes things on a dime all the time so what they have told us at this point could change tomorrow. I myself don't see any need for bitlocker what i've been doing has been working just fine for years as i imagine what your doing is working. why fix whats not broke.

OLNY clean install. Not upgrade
