I would wake up make my bed, get dressed and do a load of laundry before I left for work. Most of the time I would get dinner prepped before I left. I did a lot of crockpot meals. Then when I got home I would finish the load of laundry, swish and swipe, then do the dishes after dinner, do one 15 minute chore, such as floors, dust, or clean the fridge out. Take my shower, set out my next day clothes, then go to bed. On my day off, I would clean one zone after the morning routine and change bedding. I hope this helps you out. It seems a lot, but most of my day off things took about an hour.

Apply the 15 minutes timer in the evening. I use the am, to make and pack lunches, and move laundry from washer to dryer , or fold, so I know that am already is. And, kids get something, most days as well. All are less than 15 minutes, once they know how to do it. First few weeks I do it with them, or watch them nearby, then they get annoyed and say "I know how to do this". And voila... you're raising a great human!

“Cleaning done imperfectly still blesses the family” is my go to. I just need to do it. It doesn’t need to be perfect, just done. I’ve found that spending an hour cleaning “imperfectly” every week keeps me way more on track than waiting until I have a full day to deep clean.

Best shower cleaning tip I’ve ever found. Use one of the Vileda dish cleaning wands. Keep it in your shower filled with dish soap (I like dawn the best as I think it works the best on soap scum - do not put a chemical cleaner in here you do not want that in a steamy shower to breathe in!). Then a couple times a week when you are in the shower do a scrub down of your doors/walls. It’s super easy and keeps it sparkling clean. You might need to do a little work up front to get rid of any soap scum build up (which the Vileda sponge head it perfect for and doesn’t scratch your glass). But once you have it clean a quick scrub down a couple times a week keeps it so clean and it’s awesome. My glass shower doors had no more soap build up on them ever!

I do this too! But I use a scotch dish scrubber, and I do dawn and vinegar in it. And then my kids(7 and 2) wash that tub and walls either as part of helping mom clean the bathroom or as play when they’re in the tub. They love it and once a week I do my own scrub of it getting whatever they’ve missed that week.

I want to share something you may have missed on her (yes, it's outdated) website. Under Shiny Sink 101, there is this "Note: Follow this procedure the first time you shine your sink. You do NOT need to follow this method every day. Just keep up the shine with a little window cleaner." So, once you perform the First Time Shiny Sink, your nightly routine will include a very much abbreviated version of maintaining that shine. I hope this helps :)

To each their own - different routines works better for different types of people. :) I am a big fan of flylady. I don't follow *all* her points, only the ones relevant to me. I find it super easy to costumize, once you figure out the system. And it keeps my house clean with very little effort - and my stress levels way down. But I don't subscribe to the emails either; I just read a thing or two in the app if I feel like it, and then follow the customized routine. :) Though I will say, decluttering/minimalism-ish, as well as good organisation makes it a lot easier to follow any cleaning routine. It seems like a lot, but honestly, it is not. Because most of the tasks takes no time, and a lot of them are basic things you need to do anyway. Morning - Check your calendar - Pull back sheets to the end of the bed (giving it time to 'air out' before I make it) - Get dressed to shoes (includes shower, of course) - Empty dishwasher - Brush teeth - Make bed - Take out trash (if it needs to) Afternoon - What's for dinner - Swish & Swipe (if needed) - Declutter or zone clean 15 minutes - Home blessing task of the day (I split mine over the week, instead of doing a full hour at once) Night - Check calendar and forecast - Lay out tomorrows clothes - Put things at launch pad - Quick tidy (I basically do a quick 'sweep' of every room, and put everything where it belongs. I do this instead of the hotspot. I focus on putting things back after use, so this doesn't take very long. I also have a decorative box, where I can dump stuff. This is my only hotspot now, and I have this on my home blessing tasks instead. But since I decluttered, everything have a home, and it rarely gets used.) - Shine sink (includes dishes, counters, etc.) - Wash face, brush teeth - Go to bed at a decent hour Home blessing - Vacuum - Dust, water plants - Mop floors - Clean mirrors and doors - Clean out handbag, or take care of paper clutter/magazines - Change sheets - Laundry

I think that is the wonderful thing about flylady. By getting you used to a schedule, you develop a routine and for tasks like chores routine is everything. You do it because it is what you do, at this time, in this place, under these circumstances. No excuses. After a while you do it without having to think too much about it, things become habits. Natural part of your life. And then they do not stress you out so much.

@@dawnchesbro4189 I can partly relate to it, prefer slippers myself in my appartment, as I hate to scrub the floors. But I also see the benefits of being dressed to leave the house. Whenever I want to go shopping, I first have to change from jogging pants into a pair of jeans, then put on shoes. And then also think of all the things I want to take down with me - trash, recyclables, empty yoghurt glasses with a deposit on etc. It takes me ages to go out. This is a great video! I have been following Flylady for over 15 years and she has helped me keep my home clean and clutter free. I think a lot of people don’t understand that her entire philosophy is to Love Yourself (FLY-Finally Loving Yourself). She doesn’t want people to demand perfection from themselves or anyone else and her timer method is a very effective way to get things done, especially for me since I have some attention difficulties. I do Zone Cleaning but I follow my own schedule for that, and Flylady encourages you to make your routines work for you, but to also not expect perfection.

I have never fully made it into a flybaby. But I have started my own routines because I see how small changes can make a big difference. I have Monday - Thursday trash that needs being taken out: Compostable on Monday, cat-litter box on Tuesday, the rest of trash on Wednesday - and recycle-able paper and plastic wrappings on Thursday (as that is the day those are collected). After making that a routine, I do not forget about it anymore. Each day I leave for work I take that bag and put it into the bin/out. And glass, if I have enough of it, I take out on Fridays. Nightly shining my sink? Not going to happen - but I wash up (being a single household with two cats it is not that much) each evening and that makes for a clean stove top and a clean counter next to that. Dishes and cutlery dry over night and I put them away in the morning. Saves on drying the dishes. A load of laundry each day of the week? As a single person? No way, that would be wasteful. But twice a week or even just once a week is a good approach. This way I even get the blankets on the couch and covering my duvets and those from the cats into the washing regularly. I still have to find a routine that works for me cleaning the floors and dusting. I am allergic against dust mite excrements - so it is very unpleasant for me and mostly I use a "do not disturb" approach ... but lately small spiders have found their way into my appartment. If I do not vacuum regularly I live in a huge spider web ... *shudders So the vacuum it is. Making my bed depends very much on where my cat decides to sleep ..

Hard to do when you're not at home. BUT, I've heard good things about The Secret Slob's breakdown of Flylady's routine, so I might check that out before I decide for sure. Ive been a working single mother, a working full time student, a working married mother, and a stay at home mom, and the key to peace is keeping the integrity of routines. If you’re overwhelmed, choose a simple morning and night routine and just make sure youre dishes are always done to begin with. Stick to bed and waking times no matter what and remember that you have time. It doesnt have to be done in a day. In just a couple months of acquiring simple habits and building on your routines you wont even recognize your life. As you get one habit down, add another good habit to your routines. It seems overwhelming at first but you can do it regardless of your circumstances and it will change everything for the better! Start small, even if its just one little change.

Loved you video. I find it interesting to see new people discovering Flylady. I first found her in 2001. Once you've completely decluttered you can have the house ready for company within 15mins. It's an amazing feeling. One thing about her zones they run to the weeks of each month, not number of days. So the entrance is zone 1 from the 1st until the Sun of that week. Zone 2 - the kitchen is the first full week. Zone 3 - the bathrooms is the second full week. Zone 4 - the bedrooms is the last full week. Then zone 5 - the living areas is the last Monday until the end of the month. Some months you only have one day in the entrance or living areas but other months make this up. Occasionally you get a free day, use it as anti-procrastination or FLYing (Finally Loving Yourself).

I've developed my own routine based on some of the principles of Flylady and others, but to suit me. Everyday I make the bed, do the dishes and laundry, wipe round the bathrooms (most days), and wipe down the kitchen. I tidy up as I go. Once a week I dust, do floors, a more thorough clean of bathrooms, and change sheets. This keeps my house more or less under control with very little effort. The more detailed cleaning I do when I have time or when I feel like it or when a task becomes glaringly obvious. I don't like the inflexibility of the zone cleaning schedules, but I am a huge advocate of decluttering. You can't clean around clutter. Once the clutter is under control, your house is so much easier to keep clean.

I’ve been Flybaby for over 20 years too. It was a huge perspective shift for me. Nothing ever got fully done while having 2 small boys and homeschooling. Then there were the comments like,” Well you’re home all day so you CAN clean all the time.” What??? Like children taught themselves and I had no life of meaning because I stayed home. Thus began my rebellion. So I took the guiding principle of care for yourself first. Do what you can as you can. Do it to completion. Later when I got a demanding out of the house job, I tried Clean Mama. I like her flexibility. I like that routine things seemed simpler. Some areas were totally ignored though. I need a dungeon day to tackle whatever has been most neglected during the week. During Christmas I work more than 50 hours a week. So I prioritize the 3 most important things. 1. Functional kitchen. 2. Clothes for work. 3. Deep rest. If those are the only things I can get done after a 12 hour day then ok. January is just around the corner and it’s all recoverable. The one Flylady thing I never got behind was the shoes. Lol

I set the timer to 10 minutes and work room by room/area. This keeps up a good level of cleanliness. After a while you might not even need the full ten minutes. If I am in a hurry, I reduce to 5 or 3 minutes per room. Still effective.

Major pro of clean mama is it’s easy to share chores with your partner. One person does the 5 daily, other does the weekly tasks (the sweep/mop/bathroom ones), and then switch the next week, and back and forth. Fly lady is so enmeshed with day to day life you can’t really trade it off to your partner.

2019 I was a solo parent to three under four and half while my husband was on a remote tour. I did have someone come clean my house twice to sometimes three times a month but I adapted the fifteen minutes rule QUICKLY being heavily sleep deprived. It also helped that when my girlfriends visited, they jumped right in and washed dishes or mopped my floors just to help me breathe. I still use the fifteen minutes rule to this day on cleaning during the week for daily tasks.

New subscriber here. I love your personality and sense of humor! I combine the best of both systems. I use the clean mama weekly schedule but set a timer each day (like fly lady) for 20 minutes. I aim to spend the first 10 minutes doing a quick once over (like the home blessing) and the last 10 I'll give a little extra TLC to whatever zone I'm in. I just broke my home into 4 zones and rotate them weekly. So for example, on my dusting day - I'll do a quick 10 min dust of the high traffic zones but then spend 10 minutes deep dusting in my zone. Keeps it simple and consistent without spending a lot of time or having to follow a checklist. 😅

I like a BLEND of both plans . Flylady’s daily routine is fine, but the Weekly Home Blessing Hour is only meant to cover high traffic areas and not the whole house, according to Flylady Kat and Diane in Denmark, which leaves the bedrooms until Zone cleaning, just once a month , which seems silly to me ! If you have a lot of wooden floors, dry mopping can go very quickly throughout the house, but if you have a lot of carpet, vacuuming can take a lot longer than 10 minutes , even if you are not going under furniture to clean . ! Also, some people have much bigger houses and more rooms to be cleaned than Flylady , like Jen of “ How Jen Does It” , who breaks her house into 8 Zones . For weekly cleaning I prefer the Clean Mama task a day method, but do it in a Flylady fashion with a “ down the middle “ approach . I like fewer tasks to have to deal with on a daily basis, but also like a bit more quality outcome than a “ lick and a promise “ ! I do like the 15 minute Zone cleaning routines , but I complete a task if it goes past 15 minutes. I can’t stand to leave one baseboard undone if the rest have been cleaned and then have to wait another month to get back to it due to an artificial 15 minute constraint ! However, I do like the weekly scheduling of including some deeper cleaning tasks, along with the weekly cleaning in a Zone . Flylady’s calendar combination of Zones 1 and 5 in a week shortchanges some zones each month, if Zone 5 has extra rooms in it , so I have changed that by adding more Zone areas and take a full week in each one, ignoring the calendar . All in all, both systems have merit, but in the end they have to be adapted to suit YOU and your home !
@sherryseher7736
@sherryseher7736 2 жыл бұрын
Oh and I am 76, so I prefer an easy pace and not a one hour cardiovascular cleaning workout ! Plus, I like to work on one type of a task at a time, covering a multiple of rooms, so that I don’t have to pull out the same type of cleaning tools every day , Clean Mama style . I do swish and swipe the two bathrooms on Monday, as well as dusting wall items in both bathrooms and then I also dust both bedrooms, since I already have out my feather duster or Swiffer duster. Tuesday is floors day in those same rooms , which then completes the back part of the house. I like the front part of the house to be clean for the weekend. Wednesday is dusting the front of the house. Thursday is doing the floors in the front areas( entry, living room, dining area, and sunroom) . Friday is a quick mopping of the kitchen floor . Laundry is done throughout the week, a load a day, as needed . About 30 minutes a week is added to whatever is the Zone of the week . Grocery shopping and errands happens as needed. Bill paying is often done on a Saturday . In general, I prefer guidelines that are adapted to my energy level and schedule and not to someone else’s rigid routines. There are only two of us living here , and the house does not get very dirty, so if some weeks are either crazy or really low energy, I stretch out the weekly cleaning into a second week , if that is what it takes, It all eventually gets done and it never looks cluttered or dirty . I recognize that people with young children or huge houses might need a different approach .

I'm open to hearing any advice as I try to follow Flylady's routines myself. The weekly home blessing is actually my favorite part of Flylady, because then I can get it all over with in one day and relax for the rest of the week. Flylady's Swish & Swipe routine was a game changer for me. Having a dirty bathroom was discouraging & deep cleaning it was too hard on my back, so a quick swish & swipe daily works. & she says the Weekly Home Blessing can be broken down to one blessing task a day, but for me doing it on Monday puts me in a healthier mindset. I tried Clean Mama a while, Flylady just works better for me as I have a busy work schedule, but both ladies rock & have great ideas for staying on top of your home.

I just wanted to say how much I appreciate this video. I watched another comparison video right afterwards and felt like the lady couldn’t have really done FLYLady’s system just based on what she was saying. You could tell she was more partial to Clean Mama right away. Yours felt a bit more objective as you tried both systems pretty much the way the recommended and then drew your conclusion and made adjustments that worked better for you. The comments on the other reviewer were filled with FLYBaby commenters who explained what she had missed from FlyLady. CleanMama definitely has a prettier, more modern website, but Marla and that timer and 15-minute philosophy frees you up to live your life. Love that! Thanks for your videos. @@ThatAwkwardMom I solved that habit by making a habit of folding and sorting the laundry *as I take it out of the dryer.* As I empty the dryer, I fold each item, then loosely organize them into stacks on the washer top or counter so like items are together (i.e. kitchen items, bathroom items, each person's clothing, etc). They then get put into the basket in their groups for easier putting away - I can just take the basket around the house and put away each group of items as I come to that space, since they're all together. Doing it this way means everything is already folded and ready to put away when I leave the laundry area with it, and it takes the same or less time to do it this way than doing it as a separate task later, with the bonus of having eliminated the chance for procrastination. And since the laundry has all already been folded, it's not only quicker and easier to put away, it heavily discourages any tendency toward unloading the basket without putting it away and risk letting it get all messed up and having to refold it all over again.

Well… they both have positive and negative aspects for me. I’m disabled, so there’s no way I can physically do 10 minutes of different tasks for an hour. So for that, I do more of the “clean lady” routine. I focus on certain rooms or tasks on different days (vacuuming on Mondays, bathrooms on Tuesdays, etc.) and by the end of six days, my whole house is clean.

I'm not a stay-at-home mom, I do not have children, and my husband and I both work irregular shifts and hours ... FlyLady spoke to me on one level, but her routines just did NOT fit into my life. Before I knew about Clean Mama, I took a lot of FlyLady's information and tailored it to my own situation -- my work schedule, my home layout and my family life -- and the routines I developed for myself look a lot like Clean Mama's. Another reason FlyLady wasn't for me is that I DO NOT -- EVER -- wear shoes in my house ... not even the Mr Rogers version of shoes in the house. Doing so leads my husband to believe HE can wear shoes in the house ... his dirty, nasty, been at work and outside messing with the animals shoes. It took me more than 15 years to break my husband of that habit, and I wasn't willing to undo my progress just for some lady on the internet.

I found a little book called No Hassle House Cleaning by Christina Spence. It's perfect for me because I just can't do deep cleaning tasks every day. This system has morning , afternoon, and evening cleaning segments and uses a timer like Flylady. The difference is that instead of doing monthly tasks every day, you have one day a week called " clean for all day", where you do several monthly tasks. I have a list of monthly tasks that I divide by 5, and each week I do the tasks for list 1, list 2 , or whatever week it is . This is much more efficient for me personally. Very similar to the Flylady.

I like the idea of Fly Lady so I may try the simpler version some others are recommending in comments. I do have morning, afternoon, and evening routines that have stuck. Clean Mama has amazing recipes for DIY cleaning recipes and her printables and website have a clean, peaceful feel. I feel like I clean more thoroughly breaking the work up by task rather than speed-cleaning once a week. I work full time outside the home and my partner works full time either from home or he's on business trips, so it's easier to share the housework this way :) We set up a google sheet and tick off whatever has been done, who did it and when. In the beginning we also noted how long it took and what we disliked the most, so now we try to divide things in a way that makes it both quicker and more pleasant to handle for both of us.

Here’s what I don’t understand about Fly Lady, so I have tweaked it all these years: the weekly home blessing is to be done in your main parts of your home. If I did that every week none of the rest of my house would get dusted or vacuumed or mopped. The essence of Fly Lady is to take care of yourself and bless your family. A little each day adds up. I got overwhelmed with all the emails, but she is all about encouragement and taking baby steps. You don't have to jump in whole hog. I liked her decluttering tips as well. I did not come from a particularly clean home, and most tasks were taken care of when the kids were in bed and out of the way; so I never learned or practiced any cleaning skills or routine. I felt like Fly Lady's approach was about grace and holding your hand when you needed it.

I work and do the Fly Lady routine. I have her free app! I have adjusted the morning/afternoon/evening tasks to work with my schedule. I still get most of it done. I love that the goal is not homemaking perfection. It's just to be better than it was before you started. She also has tasks that improve your well being like drink your water and exercise and go to bed at a decent hour. It's not just a cleaning routine.

I actually enjoy both, though clean mama has a point in doing specific areas during certain times, I also enjoy fly lady's version too. However my version is by room by room basis... I literally pick up trash, declutter, dust, sweep, vacuum, mop, make tidy and presentable and I'd love to burn an incense or put an oil defuser going in that room, take out the trash in that room and repeat in every room such as bedrooms, living, dining and bathroom, the kitchen and basement areas I struggle with the most though... I literally do this at least weekly, have to do the kitchen on seperate days because well it's a lot of work for me considering I live at home and my folks aren't exactly the cleanest...

This is my first time of hearing of either of them. Thank you for breaking it down! I say fly lady wins.(not hating on clean mama) she seems cool too. I do feel like I'm always cleaning because I'm always cooking. Never getting ahead. I will definitely try both methods. Dana K. White helped me a lot also.

Kind of depressing how no one can say how their boyfriend/husband helps out with the chores. People here are doing an amazing job at working full-time, having kids and keeping the house clean! I think when I find myself in a long-term relationship and we consider moving in together I will have to insist he either does his fair share or he chips in 50% for a cleaner 1-2 hours a week.

You're so right. Cleaning, cooking, etc. are good for your mental health and are part of being an independent adult. Assuming men can't or shouldn't need to do these things, isn't doing them any favours... if anything, it's just patronising... Anyway! You make a good point (and having said that, my house is a state right now 🤣)

There is no reason why your husband can’t help you check off the list… I know mine does! He helps with laundry, dishes and floors and will pitch in wherever needed

I think it depends on different things. If both the husband and wife work then indeed the cleaning should be 50/50 but if only the husband works outside of the house and the wife is staying at home then the wife should do most of the cleaning because she's at home all day.

In a relationship you figure out what each other's preferences are. My husband doesn't do dishes, but he doesn't mind laundry. He also takes time to make the kids help, instead of just doing it, like I would. He kills bugs and plunges toilets, I pay bills and make appts. I cook most meals, but he makes dinner occasionally, and puts a lot of heart into it (and dirties every pot). He gets bothered by a cluttered coffee table sooner, so he cleans it off. Just remember you're on the same team. Being happy depends on appreciating each other.

First, your videos are amazing. I’m totally binge watching them rather than cleaning right now but I’m inspired. I can do this! I think Cleanmama is probably great for people who have their life together, they just need their home cleaner. Fly mama seems perfect for those who are totally overwhelmed to the point that you have brushing your teeth on the weekly list. 🤣 So I am starting Fly mama today!!! Teeth brushed, shoes on, go!

I just discovered your channel today and i think this is the 4th one I’ve watched. Personally I like a hybrid of the 2. Like Flylady (Secret Slob dialed down version) daily and Clean Mana for the weekly tasks. If I swish/swipe most days alternating the swish (one bathroom) then Monday’s bathroom is basically the tub. I haven’t really gotten to the monthly but I’d probably go with Clean Mama. Thank you for the comparison.

You're welcome! Thanks for watching, I didn't realize the Secret Slob had an easier way of doing the routine. I'll have to watch her videos to see what she does! Jumping into the flylady routine all at once can feel like a lot. I haven't got it all down myself yet but I'm trying to keep up! I feel like I get a little better each day the more I practice. I'm glad you found what works for you. That's what matters, finding what works for you, cuz we're all different and so we're going to have different ways of doing things!

@@ThatAwkwardMomyou’re welcome. She does she simplified the baby steps and has a practical printable. It’s definitely easier to follow and less overwhelming than Fly Lady. I’ve tried flying multiple times over the years and it is a lot. Definitely nothing is one size fits all for sure.

Thank you for explaining both method, finally understood the flylady system! I have done The clean mama system but I like how you explained flylady, used to be very overwelming when I tried to read up on it. I am gonna start on flylady routine today and try it out and see what I think. But kinda like that you clean all house same every month and not for a hear like clan mama. Great job with these videos about the 2 systems! Thank you from a new subscriber to your channel❤️❤️❤️

Thank you for this!! I'm going back to work and trying to find a system that won't leave me feeling stressed and overwhelmed. I'm going to try both because they each have their pro's and con's. I like that the Clean Mama's one was written more simply for people that get super overwhelmed by long to-do lists, like myself, but I loved that the Fly Lady's system broke it down into blocks during the day.

this cracks me up...in a 5400 sq ft house ( 150 y/o all wood floors) with 4 dogs and me working from my home approx 14hrs a day and 2 days in a shop or craft fair a week...I'm lucky if I even know I have other rooms than my office/workshop...but...with all that said this does give me inspiration...a little bit a day does make a difference instead of doing it all at once...lol who am I kidding...looking for a cleaning lady...but I love how you keep it real and give the rest of us hope
