If any depressed person has no help and they need to start cleaning, here is a tip: start with three boxes or bags. One is for trash. The second is for items that need to be put away in the room it was found in. The third is for items that need to be put away in another room. After that, vacuum or sweep if you have the energy. If not, do it the next day. And trash can be anything you don’t want or need! This part is harder but if it doesn’t get used often, has no occasional use for something important, or has no joy for you: let it go. I held onto school notes from MIDDLE SCHOOL when I was a young married mom before I finally got the courage to throw them out. Once I threw out old notebooks I had no use for, it made it easier to learn how and when to throw things out.

When I heard 3 shifts, I felt so sorry for her :( I think it's one of the most inhumane things in the workplace industry. It is cruel to force a person to work all day, then a few days later work all night. You can never adapt because you have to switch your sleeping hours every few days. I am pretty sure that lots of other people worldwide suffer from it, just like Katie.

I live alone and struggle with chronic depression and other psychological and physiological diagnoses, but having someone to see you once a week (it could be friends, family or a social service) to help you clean while you listen to music or talk is so incredibly helpful! It's the matter of getting over the (sometimes irrational) shame that is difficult at first, but it's so worth it!

I used to clean one of my friends apartment once or twice a month when he was severely depressed. Some of our friends thought he took advantage of me and just didn't bother to clean because he knew I'd come and help him out. I honestly didn't care what the reason was. It made me happy to know i could go home afterwards and have the feeling of being productive and helpful for someone else. It's been a few years now and i don't live near that town anymore, but I know he is in a better state of mind and has turned his life around so his apartment probably isn't as bad anymore. Will i do it again for someone else? Without a doubt. Do good and good will come to you!

Hi Auri, my friend and I both have depression. We have our good and bad days and will try to help each other out by cleaning together at each others houses. This week I finally got in and cleaned up my messy, cluttered, dirty bedroom that had been neglected while I focused on caring for my mum and my kids. The bedroom is now so much nicer to spend time in. My main reason was the new kitten we are picking up tomorrow =) My friend and I both love watching your videos. I think this idea of people helping each other when someone is struggling is amazing. It’s so fast that the dirty can get out of control when you’re depressed and it’s really amazing how a clean home can make you feel better. I hope people can see that this is a simple way of helping a friend in need. And I must say that seeing your videos is very helpful in keeping my home clean even when my mental health is not in the best moments, it’s inspiring seeing the before and after, and also makes me see that it’s not that hard, maybe buying a new cleaning tool can be a way of making the whole thing more fun, and having my space organized takes a huge problem out of my head

Watching your videos inspired me to help a friend of mine who has been depressed for years with his apartment. I have cleaned his apartment two times now. The first time was a year ago, and I did it by myself. I had told him that for his birthday, I wanted to decorate his apartment for him because he's always liked my suggestions/taste. I did that, but I also cleaned his apartment top to bottom by myself. Then 2 months ago, his depression/anxiety got worse. He didn't let anybody see him for a whole month, kept making excuses saying he was busy, or cleaning. So though I was torn about it, I decided to show up at his apartment with beer and food and cleaning supplies, and said "If you're here cleaning, then that's where I'll be too." After some convincing, he let me in and I could clearly see he hadn't cleaned since I had done it a year before. So, we cleaned and talked and listened to music, and he really enjoyed himself. He made an appointment with a therapist that day, too. He's still deep in depression, it's hard to get him to open up. He has been seeing the therapist every week, but I don't think it's helping. It's hard when you see friends so deep in "the hole," but I have hope that if I continue reaching out, he will grow more comfortable asking for help.

My daughter has zero energy due to MS. I created a self-contained apartment for her upstairs. I do all her cleaning, laundry and washing up for her. Which leaves me little energy to keep my space nice, especially as my youngest is also autistic. I have had cancer twice myself and can easily understand how easy it is to get in a mess-and how overwhelming it can be to try to tackle a huge mess. This apartment didn't seem too bad to me though.

It seems sad nobody in your friend group has offered to help you. Why not ask one of your warmest, most nurturing friends to come around for lunch and a bit of wine, in return for helping with the room you have most struggle with? Just say that this month, it is too much. A good friend will note that and turn up for 2 or 3 hours and help out, at least once a month. Sometimes, it makes a 15 minute job 3 minutes, just because with 2, you can move things so easily. Or if you are good with plants, put up a sign saying swap a selection of plants for an hour's help, cleaning.

Absolutely agree with the statement that when you're mentally ill the essentials - making money to survive for example - takes all your energy. A couple times a year I have high functioning periods and I have "normal person" energy and it's amazing. I can clean my house normally, cook and clean, do my job more effectively than normal, and I can't believe it's how normal people live. If you aren't mentally ill it's impossible for you to understand.

I just got back into therapy 3 weeks ago and one of my major immediate goals is to tackle my trashed apartment. I’ve been motivated but without action for about a month to accept and not judge how bad it has gotten and just do it. My mess grosses me out and is also my super secret. It takes up so much time of your day and especially with the bad weather right now (at least here in germany) it really does take a toll on your overall feeling. I find myself not being able to have a normal sleep schedule (it 2am right now) and I feel like I get nothing done, even if I want to. I was depressed when I still lived at home. One day, my mom and sister came in to my room with a big trashbag and we started cleaning my room togehter. Back then I was annoyed that they came in to my room to help me clean, I was in my 20's, I could do it my self. I didn't see back then that my mental health was stopping me from cleaning my room. Nowaday's I am glad that they took a full day just to make my room look pretty again. It also had a great effect on my mental health, and now if my room starts to get messy or dirty, I notice my mental health going downhill again and I will clean my room. Every time I watch one of your videos I think about that time, and it makes me happy that I have people close to me who are always willing to help me. I also got the help I needed from a therapist, I got diagnosed with a list of mental health issues, broke contact with my abusive dad, found some friends who are always there for me and found my calling in teaching children! So life is good now!

You are so kind and nonjudgmental of what leads people to let their homes get to this state. I love that you advocate for mental health help . Even the little help of asking a friend to help clean with you

Awesome job, I would ask for help but I have no one to ask! My health has really affected my ability to do the normal everyday cleaning activities.🙁 I struggle with depression because of it. It’s wonderful to see you help these people get their homes back.

I play the video and clean while it is playing. It’s sort of like having a friend with me, and it gives me a concrete time to actually do some cleaning. And then if it’s a bad day, that is at least a few things that are done. If it’s a good day I play it again and clean some more. I also wish I could ask for help but there is no one near me, at least not that I know well enough to trust.

Maybe you could give a city close to you or district and country on here. It would be amazing if you lived near each other. Or if someone saw your area and contacted you. People who neglect themselves are often the kindest, most helpful to others - and it is rarely reciprocated. If you find someone who lives near, you can check the comments they make elsewhere, you can chat and exchange opinions, maybe meet for coffee in a safe place, and decide if you can each be trusted cleaning buddies. 2 hour stints at each house... You may end up with a BFF!

I love what you do, it is amazing! 👏 I am a former foster child, and I survived teen homelessness and teen pregnancy bk in 2005 I had my first son. Cps was involved before my son was even born. I had this 1 worker who really changed my life. She sat me down and explained the part of my job now as a mom is to provide a clean and safe environment for my baby. This may sound like a no brainer to most, but I was living in a tent for almost a year 😂 and just got my first apartment. I had no idea what I was doing and that SD worker went above and beyond to teach me the basics. Watching these videos reminds me of how far I come. And how much just one person can greatly impacted a life by just teaching them a few cleaning tips and tricks.❤

Now when I have a plate with some food that is hard to remove I just wash the plate with some dishwashing liquid and let it "rest" before rinsing while I wash other dishes. Thanks to Aurikatariina now I know that it's important to give the cleaning product some time to work!

I have always had depression. It always made me feel better to have a very clean home, but lately, I just can't - don't clean. So what I do is choose one area.....maybe just the kitchen counter, and clean it spotlessly. I can at least do a little like that. I love Aurikatariina more than anyone. Her channel is my favorite.

Hello ❤ I must say I admire your empathy and way of looking at things😊 thank you for helping out so many. You're so important. I have been suffering from depression from my teen years up until now at 32. Sometimes I have good phases and sometimes everything is grey and hopeless. Luckily I had no problems with cleaning my appartment or keeping order. However I was a typical procrastinator (I think you write it that way:) and couldn't keep up with my paperwork, job, mails and meetings. I sometimes feel overwhelmed and it's also a kind of order and cleanliness - just not as visible as a dirty appartment.
