I've got a pre-facelift 2009 G6 GT (3.5 v6) that used to be my dads. Car has just north of 160k miles and has endured road trips, off road excursions (both intentional and accidental), and two separate intervals of hard Teenager Miles, and the only lingering gremlin (besides the awful GM clearcoat) is the passenger headlight likes to off itself every ten months (we think it's a wiring problem). Other than that, the car has never left my dad, my brother, or myself stranded, and still feels solid and responsive. I think these cars are one of the best choices you can make when it comes to good bang-for-your-buck first cars or beaters on a tight budget

I really miss Pontiac. I had a 1993 Grand Am GT with the 3.3 V6 and my brother had a 1991 Firdbird with the 3.1 V6. My Grand Am could really scoot, but my brother's Firebird was rather slow. He wanted a GTA, but it was just out of his wheelhouse money-wise. And if you know about this era Firebirds, the GTA was right between the Formula and a full blown Trans Am. MAN, those were the days! The carmakers now are making GARBAGE with a capital G. This G6 is nice!! Whoever buys it is getting a gem 💎! Thanks for sharing, Jay!

The G6 was basically a Malibu, not an Impala. The G6 had a 4 or 6 banger like the Malibu. The Impala didn't have a 4 cylinder. The G8 was supposed to be the Impala of the Pontiac lineup and then they killed Pontiac and didn't sell many of them, and then Chevy went on to make the SS sedan. Kinda like Chevy made the Captiva, which was a Saturn Vue with Chevy badges on it and was a pile of absolute trash

That is probably the most handsome G6 . Although still problematic I think that the G6s That have spent most of their lives in the Southern States Have a much longer lifespan lifespan on average then those from the Northern States? I know it's that way with most cars but I think that all the road sall the road salts and dramatic temperature fluctuations really really tour these 2 shit. Not just the body but there were a lot of electrical components and sensor problems caused by the salt.
@Stressless20232 жыл бұрын
Yeah these G6's don't hold up AT ALL in northern states. Virtually every single one you see on the road here in Detroit has no rocker panels left.

I’ve owned two of these both GTP, one had the 3.9 and the other had the 3.6. They’re decent cars. Suspension problems seems to be their biggest flaw. They were decent driving and relatively quick. Both had great Monsoon stereos too.
@matthewbowen58412 жыл бұрын
All of these early Epsilon cars had self destructing from suspensions. Terrible parts and design quality...
@matthewbowen58412 жыл бұрын
I can almost guarantee this started as a rental car. By 2010, very few people wanted them. The ad campaign was fantastic early on the the run, excellent music in the ads for the G6, Torrent and Solstice. I enjoyed when they ditched the red on red on red gauges for 2010, and as I mentioned in the Impala video comments, by the last 2010s they were using mixed parts from all of the various trim levels. Up here in the north, all of these Epsilon cars ended up developing major rust along the rockers, much like the older N Bodies they replaced. I enjoyed the early GTP trims. Of course, since they were rentals, none were the unicorn 6 speeds. We had 3.9s in cherry red and the neat Stealth Gray, then they dropped the much more sophisticated (but ultimately trouble prone) 3.6 DOHC into them. I dare say the 3.9s are more likely to still be running than the first generation 3.6 liters. I often jokingly played that Far East Movement song when we would drive one of the G6s. I always thought GM got the suspension tuning right on these, a good mix of compliance and control. The extra weight from the V6 engines helped in that regard, the Ecotecs always felt flinty. The High Value V6 family was pretty neat and unfortunately short lived. Pushrods and variable valve timing, and good, smooth power form both displacements. Shame about the DOD on the 3.9s, though I don't think the G6 or Malibu SS got that version. The coupes looked pretty good in GT and GTP trim with the larger wheels. The convertibles were neat, from that era when every mfr had to have a folding hardtop. The rear deck was a bit too high, which afflicted most of the competitors too (Sebring, Solara, Eos). The less said about the garish, body kit-afflicted GXP that replaced the GTP, the better. Same car with hideous body kits, just as Pontiac crowed about getting rid of excess cladding only a couple of years earlier. I don't think I ever saw a privately owned GXP on the road, they all seemingly went into rental service. Except around 2014, when I saw one regularly at work (a silver GXP coupe with the full tilt body kit and the Avis/Budget barcodes still stuck to the windows from its inglorious past).
@matthewbowen58412 жыл бұрын
And FYI, replacing the headlight bulbs takes a special hand on these to not unclip the bumper. The sealing even on the factory ones was always bad, the mounting system on this and the box Malibu twin was bad (the light beams jiggle due to bumps if you pay attention to them on the roads). And the reflector buckets constantly come loose in the G6 lights, probably due to the bad mounting system jiggling them. Many of the less than 1 year old rentals had moisture in the lights and one or both reflectors rattling around in the housings.
@compzac2 жыл бұрын
count a privately owned GXP right here, i owned 2 an 09 GT and 09 GXP both sedans, the headlights never did what you said yours would on mine they didnt jiggle and i never had issues with moisture, yes the Body kits were a little garish, but pontiac was struggling by that point and they really didnt know what to do, i mean they made a malibu with sporty suspension essentially and then they had it competing with the malibu and the saturn aura and they chose sporty over cheap so body cladding was required i guess.
@matthewbowen58412 жыл бұрын
@@compzac i never owned one, but I did maintain around 200 or so over the entire production run in my time in rental fleet ops. And then helped run an auto repair business for 8 years after that. You got lucky with the lights, but they do jiggle. The mountin system on the box Malibu and G6 was simply inadequate.

I own a 07 G6 Gt with the standard transmission. Its advertised mpg is 25, but I have seen up to 32, mostly 28 mpg average. People thing that 240 hp/ 240 tq is not much, but it is about the way it is delivered. I am more than happy with this car. I don't know it this 3.9l has the DOD. Thank you for your information.
@matthewbowen5841 Жыл бұрын
@@kastellolo5212 Quite a unique car you have! I forgot about the further muddling of the trims... I think when they started 3.6 DOHC production, the 3.9 became an option in the GT. They had 2.4 and 3.5 base, 3.5 and 3.9. GT, 3.9 and 3.6 GTP, and all GXPs were 3.6. What came in which trims depended on year, body style and options. They had 4 cyl coupes some years, base coupes were V6s some years. I think the convertible had at least 3.9s even in GT trim, none with the smaller engines.
