I know I'm late, but I've been listening to this song almost non-stop for a few days now and wanted to say that this is gorgeous! Brian's vocals are so bright and clear, and the accompaniment and harmonies are just beautiful, they really lend themselves well to the lyrics. And some of the lines feel so indescribably open and raw. (The theatre metaphor is also something that I really enjoy, but that's neither here nor there)

A ghost light is a (usually industrial) light that a lot of theaters have to keep the place lit for the ghosts at night, as theatre people are a notoriously superstitious bunch, and there’s an old belief that every theater has a ghost. The ghost light is thought to keep the spirit appeased to help shows run smoothly. The song could be about leaving a metaphorical light for people you’ve known even after you’ve left, hence: “turn on the ghost light”
