When I was a young girl all 10, all my sisters and myself had Hope Chests. Old school i know but true. I am still using the Revere wear 53 years later. I have every size frying pans, sauce pans with lids and stock pots. I have collected through the years. Yes I even fry eggs in my frying pans. If you season them eggs will not stick.

Revereware and Ekcoware are two of the best vintage cookware to own- I agree with the date range of 1939- 1968 too. I buy the ones that are bellied; overheated and sprung out on the bottom, they can be easily restored by placing them upside down on a workbench and using a rubber mallet giving a sharp blow to reverse the bell from convex to concave. Now use as normal, the belly may return but I found it stays true after only 2- 3 treatments. I scored a bellied Revereware 4- 1/2 qt. pot for $.75 (and that was a half- price sale day), these pans are the ones people avoid for obvious reasons and thrift stores heavily discount because nobody wants them- except guys like me. ☺ *Tip:* Used Revere Ware is often labeled vintage because it looks old, not because it has the original, thick cladding. Since the difference isn't visible, how does a buyer know which is which? Simple, look for the Process Patent hallmark. All Revere Ware made with the original, thick copper bottom carries the inscription: Pat Pend. or Made Under Process Patent (1939-1968). Newer Revere Ware (made after 1968) has no notation regarding patents. Then too even a later date make is far superior to what they produce today, they have the plating thickness controlled down to the 1- 2 micron level; it's more copper color than copper plating and it's gone in the first month of use.

You are DEAD wrong about POST-1968 RW being inferior. The BEST EVER RW was made in the early 1980s, which was the Paul Revere line with COPPER CORES (stainless steel - copper - stainless steel). Those Pauls cook like fine French copper cookware. ALSO, the RW DISC model is AWESOME (1985 TO 1999). I retired my old RW coppers for the Discs. As far as the RW Classic 1400 Line with copper bottoms and pistol grips, you are correct that pre-68s are best due to thicker copper.

Thanks for showing us how to remove light carbonized grease and tarnish. BUT HOW DO YOU REMOVE HEAVY BAKED-ON CARBONIZED GREASE BLOTCHES AND STREAKs without using abrasive materials that scratch the copper. IF YOU CAN SHOW HOW to DO THAT, THEN YOU MADE A GREAT VIDEO. +++ By the way, the skillet was manufactured in 1982. And the 2 Qt saucepan is 1980. The trademark shows the year of manufacture. Lastly, I believe the skillet has a warped bottom that bows downward toward the stove surface. If so, that skillet will suck on a glass top stove as it would wobble while cooking. So, it is good you didn't put too much effort into the restoration. But, still great on gas and electric coil stoves.

I've had success with 0000 steel wool, a dab of water, and lots of elbow grease. There are some very fine scratches on my pieces I've done this to, but there were some already there when I inherited them. Some look like manufacturing swirls, so I follow their pattern 90% of the time.
@ChristinaMitchell-USA4 жыл бұрын
@@ARasputinaFan Aye, a used piece is likely to have scratching ... so a few more micro-scratches are no biggie. You were to correct to follow the grain pattern of the metal ... it helps to minimize the appearance of scratches from abrasive scrubbing. Try to find a bamboo scrub brush with stiff bristles -- it scrubs off tough stuff without scratching.

In the past I've used salt and half a lemon to clean copper. The lemon provides the acid and gives you something to hold onto while you scrub.

Salt and vinegar? Just use Barkeep's Friend. It has oxalic acid and works much better on copper than acetic acid (vinegar).

Barkeeper is fine if you are scrubbing a daily cooker that already has noticeable scratching. BUT if you have a near mint RW, use Bon Ami & watery Dawn and a natural fiber bristle brush, like bamboo, to keep the piece looking like NOS.

Salts react with vinegar's acidity to produce an oxi type cleaning action. Same theory with baking soda and vinegar, or a juiced citrus scrap can work as a milder acid and scrubbing device- opposed to using vinegar.
@marguitvaldez47924 жыл бұрын
It will probably work fine, regular salt and lemon juice are also effective. I've heard my grandma telling me that back in the day of wood stoves, people would clean pans with lemon juice and ashes. The solids act like sand paper, and remove surface corrosion.
@ARasputinaFan4 жыл бұрын
