Cleaning the heatsink (the intake of which was about 1/4 blocked by dust) and fan and applying fresh thermal paste really made a difference. It solved the fan noise and our PS4 Pro now runs quietly. In our case I suspect cleaning the heatsink made most of the difference. The instructions were very good. Thank you for posting Matt.

I cannot thank you enough for this video. I've seen a few others that are maybe 5-10 minutes long. This was so thoughtful and concise. I am not mechanically inclined was still able to complete this work in >1 hour. That includes the fact that I had a model with several differences. I went from jet engine PS4 pro to silent. It's amazing. Side note - It's probably not worth buying that 70$ tool set. Just get the 3 tools you use. I didn't use anything else from it, and just used a mini flat head and tweezers of my own.

This absolutely saved my butt and made an ENORMOUS difference! Even for a beginner like me, I didn't even have a spare screw leftover hahaha For me one main issue was the thermal paste splooshed out the sides and onto the circuit board. Leaving little to none where it needed to be. After scooping up the splooshed paste and putting it where it should be, it made a huge difference. Thanks for the great video and help!

Great video, but be careful when disconnecting the white cord that goes from the power supply to the motherboard. It can rip the connector off of the motherboard altogether. Found out the hard way unfortunately. Turns out, that happens quite a bit. A lot of repair videos on that also on KZbin.

Now I'm sure it will be a waste of money: Ordered two heatsinks for RAM, they came 2-3 months after the order was placed and as the "thermal adhesion compound" there was just a two sided see-through tape. I wonder how's that supposed to work as a thermal pad. Well, luckily I was ordering those heatsinks just for the purpose of trying out and aesthetics, and not because I actually needed heatsinks for my RAM, but nevertheless.

My PS4 pro (model 7115B) was loud right out of the box. I took it apart and seen the heat sink was filthy with dust and basically suffocating the console. After clearing out the dust it was noticeably better and I could feel the hot air rushing out the back of the console and the jet engine fan was a LITTLE less obnoxious. 6 years later I find out about thermal pads and paste being the main issue and I am not pleased about having to repair something that's basically been broken before I even got it out of the box... but at least now I know why all this is going on and can actually do something about it when I can afford to.

Definitely frustrating for sure. I've been there a few times and kind of see it as an additional part of the experience when getting a console, new or used. Dude, thank you for this video, I have the same model and mine is laud since I 1st used it, so I highly suspect it's bad application of the thermal paste, like the one on your video, that was awfully misapplied. Even though I suspected, as you, someone opened it before you, because that heatsink copper plate had some strange scratches, I still think that's probably the case, misapplied thermal paste. Or is it normal to have all that scratch on the copper side of the heatsink? It didn't look like scratches to make more surface, LOL, looked like someone roughly cleaned it, with something pointy actually, like trying to remove dry, kinda glued thermal paste.
@linklooklisten2 жыл бұрын
Yea sounds like something abrasive may have been used while cleaning it. Something like that could be bad because it makes the surface ever so slightly uneven, but it will only be a problem if your system continues to be loud. Make sure the screws for the heatsink are tightened evenly and you should be ok.

So, do you recommend me to open the 1 year console even so? How long should i first open, clean and change the thermal paste? Thank you sorry my bad english
@linklooklisten3 жыл бұрын
It really depends on how often it's used and other variables like if it's in an enclosed tv stand and if you have pets. Moving it to an open area like you said you did is a good move, if you have pets there might be a lot of dust and hair in there which will clog up the vents and heat sink. If it's loud at all, I would suggest opening it to at least clear out whatever dust and hair has accumulated. If it's still loud after that, apply fresh thermal paste.

Try a larger Philips bit or flat head in a straight spot of the head of the screw. Could also try putting a rubber band between the screw and screwdriver and try that way, rubber band should fill in the space on the screw. Worst case a pair of pliers, possibly needle nose small enough to fit in the screw head and try turning it.
