There are 2 missing resistors in the upper left corner on the processor side of the motherboard on the 7200. @Tronicsfix6 жыл бұрын
Really? I'll have to check that out.
@mimimimeow6 жыл бұрын
not necessarily. temps have to be measured at the CPU itself, not body or exhaust. Higher body/exhaust air temp simply means the heatsink and fan remove heat off the CPU die more efficiently
@MrAzazel6666 жыл бұрын
@@mimimimeow is right. If the console has more efficient cooling, you'd expect the top and the back to be hotter. Heat has to go somewhere. More heat being drawn by the heat sink means less heat on the die. And lower fan speeds since the fan doesn't have to work as hard.
@CaffeinatedTech6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, they changed the fan profile. They could have done that in software on the previous model. But that doesn't sell new consoles... Oh and more efficient cooling makes the heatsink hotter? More efficient thermal transfer from the APU to the heatsink would make it hotter, but so does less heat dissipation by running the fan slower make the heatsink hotter.
@2drealms1966 жыл бұрын
@@CaffeinatedTech CaffeinatedTech console manufacturer's generally don't make much money on hardware if any, and sometimes take losses which they recoup on software and services. It's the cutout holes, the new 72 series have less holes but more direct to where it's needed, as for 71 series has more holes so it loses the more direct effect. Works similar to a jet pump, if u was to have a jet pump with a big opening and one with smaller opening, the smaller opening would be more efficient, but it all depends on the power being fed too. Also more holes would cause a louder fan sound, as for less holes would be a bigger hiss sucking sound.

A slightly thicker heatsink on the older model gives the sink more thermal mass, but its surface area that's important to losing heat energy by forced (or non-forced) convection. So, both models have the same heatsink. I suspect the CPU/GPU are more efficient on the later model.

One big change that no one noticed is theres way more room in the new one for air to circulate, the heat sync is actually bigger on the new one, and the raised portion is extra metal, the stamped metal is raised away from the fan far more than the old, more room for air to move, less noise

I have the white 7100 revision and it's very quiet. It does kick out some heat and occasionally gets a bit of faint coil whine with pro optimised games (pretty common and nothing to worry about)... But still very quiet compared to the launch Pro and earlier PS4 models. The biggest change for the 7200 revision is the power connector. The 2-pin kettle style connector on the 7000/7100 is not very secure and feels a bit wobbly/loose. The figure of 8 connector on the 7200 is a tighter fit and much more secure.
@mikejenkins49244 жыл бұрын
Actually the newer heatsink design means it goes on tighter once screwed, which means much better heat dissipation. You can achieve a similar result if you bend the clamp on the older pro, although obviously won't be as effective.
@Daz5Daz Жыл бұрын
To be honest when I first stripped down my launch PS4 Pro it looked like the whole problem with them and noise was simply down to bad factory assembly. The thermal pads were poorly aligned on the RAM and the thermal compound covered maybe 60% of the APU die. Once I resolved these issues my Pro became whisper quiet.
@pillington13385 жыл бұрын
Based on Digital Foundry's measurements, the 7200 model draws the same amount of power as the 7100, within a few watts. 7200 exhaust is a bit hotter. My guess is that either the 7200 somehow is more efficient at getting heat removed from the heatsink, or maybe it's quieter because they found a reliable way to let it run 4-5 degrees hotter under load.
@ssjMaximum22Goku6 жыл бұрын

I have a 7215 model of ps4 pro with a jb. I used orbis tool box to measure the temperature of cpu and soc. As per my understanding, this model of playstation runs at 83 degree for most of the time while playing games. Once it crosses 83 degree, the fan starts blowing faster. And i guess the older Ps4 pro had the temperature limit of 79 degree instead of 83 when playing games. So the fan would run faster most of the time to maintain the temperature of 79 degree or below. And because of that, it made more noise. This is the only difference. The temperature limit. Rest they both work the same way.

The metal plate around the copper contact pad isn't really doing much in the way of sinking heat. It is just there to hold the heat pipes against the real heatsink (the part with the fins). I do see one big difference on the new board: They have redesigned the power delivery with new components. I'm not knowledgeable enough to know more than that, but it is a definite change. I also think you should compare the fans and the fan shroud as a better designed airflow could greatly enhance the performance of the cooler at the same sound level. I would also be interested if it is the same OEM who has manufactured the fan on the new and the old one.

My PS4 Pro was very noisy right from the day I purchased it but I made it almost silent when playing games. It is very easy to do and your PS4 Pro will work as quiet as mine no matter which revision of PS4 Pro you will use. All you need to do is to replace thermal paste. That's it. The thermal paste Sony uses is not a very good quality and tends to dry out fast and probably has very low thermal conductivity. Even something like MX-4 which is what I used is a much better paste in terms of thermal conductivity and should last much longer, though even this paste will need a replacement after few years.

Bored Gamer had a Launch PRO, day one, not broke yet, Sony gets away with it because people go out and “improve” the console themselves, it’s like buying a car then the manufacturer recommends to change the brake lines because they corrode. Not right is it. I know what you’re saying, and do whatever, it just annoys me how Sony get away with it. Then expect the consumer to “improve” it themselves.

Is it me or is the heat sink plate a different colour and thickness? (See 5:22). Could be different materials between the two? If the newer plate is thicker (difficult to make out by the overhead camera angle) possibly a newer core technology has also been implemented to the heatsink plate to transfer heat away from the processor quicker? (e.g. 'vapor' chambers). Sony may also have tweaked the power configuration similar to Xbox One X's Hovis method.

I can't say for sure but it looks very similar to the previous heat sink...just a bit smaller.

It's honestly disappointing Sony didn't even bother upgrading the cooling system with a liquid cooling system if there's one thing Microsoft does better is they have a much better cooling design It's truly fascinating on my Xbox One X I have tried the most graphical demanding games like Resident Evil 3 remake or Red Dead redemption 2 I do not hear a thing It's scary quiet and I know why it's super quiet to the point you don't even hear the fan It's because they are using liquid cooling the PS4 Pro should have used liquid cooling it would literally prevent the fan spinning so fast to the point it sounds like a dam jet going at Mach 3 And I find it strange Sony did extremely well with PS3 super slim it was the most quietest PlayStation console ever made but why the PS4 models are so damn loud? I found out the real problem is Sony decided to use a cheap ass thermal paste on the APU But much to my shockness I decided to dismantle my PS4 Pro destiny 2 model then I noticed the thermal paste was dry as hell So I scraped it off I bought the best thermal paste I could find I carefully applied it to the APU chip with a q-tip reassembled everything back then I decided to play bullet storm full clip edition again I could not believe that made the biggest difference I don't even hear the fan going haywire anymore 😲 I guess this whole time the fan was only spinning so fast because the thermal paste wasn't doing its job keeping the APU chip as cool as possible But hopefully the one I applied should last several years 😉👍
