I wash my makeup brushes RELIGIOUSLY. I once had an eye infection and my eye swelled shut..... 5 days before I was to be married! (I picked up a bacterial infection and for whatever reason it effected my eye first. I got antibiotics and eye drops and it cleared up in time for the wedding!) That chaos made me REALLY CRAZY CAREFUL about my eyes and how to keep them healthy.

I wash my natural hair expensive brushes every other time or even every time. I know they might not last as long but I can't deal with them not being "clean" or the pigments mixing either. Fun lil hack to hang your brushes: use a hair tie and loop it around the brush and attach it to a bar or handle or towel rack etc. loop it once around the brush, pull the hair tie behind the horizontal bar of choice, then loop it back again onto the brush. It’ll hold it upside down perfectly so the glue doesn’t get messed up and it dries properly.

my favourite thing for drying is to lay a towel flat on my desk and the edge at the back i roll forward until it forms a little sausage/sushi roll at the back. then i can prop the handles on that part and the brush angled toward the front of my desk and it means if any water did get in the barrel it can run down and out!! :-)

She has the BEST brush reviews and tutorials. I started to learn about, appreciate, and buy Fude brushes and you’d better believe I learned how to clean them. Since I have several of each kind now as well as several sets- ( Sonya G., Wayne Goss, and Sigma, including your brush set ( I LOVE the 4DHD precision). I can go a week and not clean them. Every weekend I take the group of used ones and do my little cleaning ritual and actually enjoy it. ( mind you, I’m retired) I let them hang in the holder for at least 48 hours. Thanks for the sink hint.I was using a shallow bowl and changed the water 2-3 times. Your idea is easier.

Hi, Robert! Something I've done to help my brushes dry faster is I just head to my shower with the clean brush right after "squeezing" extra water from rinsing it and hold it tight, make a few firm strokes downward and let the centrifugal force push the water out. Nothing too intense, no crazy shaking. It will remove so much water! We have cold, humid winters and dense brushes can take a few days to dry naturally here, so I tried this method and it helped! So far, none of my brushes have needed replacement and I've done it for a few years! Hope you won't have to use the radiator as much anymore 💜

About a year ago I ran into a lady doing her laundry in my apt building’s laundromat. I had to do a double take...I kid you not, this woman had probably at least 15 makeup brushes shoved into one of those mesh lingerie bags.😳You know... THAT YOU WASH YOUR LINGERIE IN! She proceeded to tell me what a brilliant idea that she had to do this. I said that I’d stick to washing mine by hand every week.😏 Not only did she toss them in the washer, she also put them in the dryer afterwards!😳 Those things looked like mini porcupines on the end of sticks!🤣 I have no idea if she still washes/dries her brushes this way but I can guarantee they probably didn’t last very long! Not to mention, I’m sure it left all kinds of detergent and fabric softener residue all over them!😝 ***One little trick that I do when drying my brushes... You know the wired metal cooling racks that you put baked cookies, pastries, etc. to cool off on? I lay my brushes on the edge of them. The rack is elevated by about 2” and I put the brushes all around the perimeter of the rectangle with the bristles/hair hanging off. It gets air circulating 360* and with them laying sideways, no water goes down into where the adhesive is. 🖤💜 My Sigma Robert Welsh Favorites brushes I wash like they are a newborn baby’s eyelashes!😁🖤💜

Thank you so much for doing this video. As weird as it may sound, cleaning brushes is a part of makeup I have always struggled with. 1) because I hate it and it’s super annoying 2) because I’ve frayed or damaged so many of them on accident. Seeing you describe this and break it down is so helpful in taking care of my tools

I just recently got a cleaning pad, yay, but prior I would use a baby washcloth as my gentle “cleaning pad” worked great

There is only one thing I could bring up... Look into what your brush cleansers are. This isn't a problem for everyone. It was for me. If your skin is very sensitive to certain ingredients, you may not do well with your brush shampoo. I share a small bit of my face cleanser since I'm acne prone and allergic to most common ingredients in skincare and soap. Aloe, coconut, and rose are the bane of my existence so that means my brushes take a little swish in my own face cleanser or baby shampoo. My synthetic brushes tend to look "fried" after about three years of use. My secret is discount conditioner or a hair mask. I leave it in like you would a hair treatment and rinse so about three to fifteen minutes. That's it. My oldest brush is from when I was eighteen years old. I'm thirty now. It's well loved and very pampered.

I don't remember where I heard it, but I used Dawn and extra virgin olive oil mixed in warm water. I dip the brushes in the mixture, then use the cleaning pad to clean them then rinse them with water, and let them sit on the corner of the sink to dry them.

Can you over clean them? I invested in good quality brushes and have a habit of cleaning after every use because I can't leave them dirty but I don't want to ruin them either.

I love this video, thanks for letting us know how to clean our brushes properly 🙏🏽🤗 I use a two step process that takes 2-4 minutes for my Blendiful/Cosmetic Puffy thingy , I use my pre-cleanse oil/balm for the foundation/concealer on it, rinse the oil and after that I take a gentle face wash, squish the soap around a minute and rinse again….it gets it so clean 🧼 🤗🤣🥰🙌🏽

Hi Robert, thank you so much for this video. I really appreciate your knowledge base and expertise. Would you please do a brush 101 video? There are so many shapes, textures, sizes, etc. and all I hear is “use your favorite brush to…”. I need help knowing what brush does what and I’m overwhelmed. HELP!

I have one of those StylPro brush cleaner, I will change my liquid after cleaning my foundation brushes, I love mine they clean and dry so well, I have washed them under the tap with shampoo etc, but take too long in winter or cooler houses to dry.
