Oh I’m 48 and oily and find those mature age products actually help cut the oil. But I also gave up heavy full coverage foundations. I use skin tints or balms. So for me using those heavy creams at night and using the old age foundations work very well for me. But I’ve opted that I just want to even out my skin and not fully cover it. The fun thing about skin tints and some balms is you don’t have to exactly color match. That’s the problem I have. I’m pasty white and pink undertones with a bit of yellow. Anything in the pasty white range is either so pink it looks grey on my Casper the friendly ghost skin or too yellow I look unusually tan and sometimes it oxidizes to orange. Even most neutral colors sway either too pink or too yellow. I’m thrilled shade ranges have expanded. But in that they messed with the fair and light shades.

Hahahaha! Yeah, I absolutely love it too but I have dry, dehydrated skin. I actually didn’t try it for the longest time because I saw it said normal to oily skin. For years I’d been looking for a good base for makeup that was moisturizing enough but helped my makeup go on nice and last well. I’d tried so many things and nothing worked. It wasn’t until a friend of mine with dry, dehydrated skin recommended it and I was like, “really? I considered it when I first started looking for something but it said normal to oily skin.” She was like, “what? Really? I don’t know why. I’d say it’s for dry skin people for sure.” So I got it and tried it and fell in LOVE. Annoyed because I would have tried it years before if it had been marketed towards dry skin like it should be. I agree with most of these. The CT Flawless Filter has been a staple in my professional kit for quite some time-until I ran out. I used it extensively, particularly on male models who needed a more subdued highlight in photoshoots, as opposed to the effect you get from liquid or powder highlighters. However, it’s certainly NOT for everyone. That being said, small amounts can work wonders in seamlessly blending cream bronzers and blushes before the initial setting. But honestly, the price is not justified at all if you only need it for something very specific. I've switched to the ELF version for my clients now, and I can’t tell the difference. In fact, ELF is actually much easier to work with. As for Tarte Shape Tape, I straight up hate it. With L'Oréal Infallible concealer being available for a while now at a fraction of the price, offering the same finish, coverage, and blendability-but much less heaviness-I don't see any reason to even buy Shape Tape. Like if you're a snob and don't like drugstore, there's always Natasha Denona's... ENOUGH WITH THE SHAPE TAPE!

I agree with everything except the hourglass powders! 😮 they're probably the one product that has never left my routine once since they first came out. They're meant to be sheer finishing powders and give the most gorgeous, natural glow. I wonder if the more dense application of a highlighter is why you didn't like them? Do you think they would still have the issue with the darker undertones used as finishing powders? I'm light-med so I've only used the darker shades as bronzer Tarte shape tape is probably the worst concealer I've ever used. It's so dry looking.

Hourglass only has 2 shades now for darker skin. The other finishing powders will definitely be ashy on my deep skin tone. I now have the vol 3 and I love it except the highlighter that they added into it. I wish they added another finishing powder instead.

Textured, porous, oily woman of 50 so strictly speaking, not “mature skin” in the sense people usually mean it. The wrinkles are few but the webbing is there on my cheekbones. 1. I love the idea of any stick foundation and would especially like a Fenty shade match (am also olive brown). But I never met a stick foundation that didn’t just sit on my skin like greasepaint and wear away in patches, no matter how it’s applied, and the Fenty stick was no different. 2. This is the first time I realised that Face Base is marketed for OILY skin, and all I can say is WTF NO! Dry smooth skin? Definitely. 3. I fell for the hype and thought that Flawless Filter would give me a nice natural glow under my current foundation. Instead it magnified and accented every single imperfection on my skin, with the added benefit of shine - so I looked like an oily, pitted, creasy glazed donut. I ended up gifting it. I am absolutely willing to agree that this comes down to my skin type. I’m sure that’s true. But if Robert’s review stops one more person with my skin from pissing away their hard-earned cash, then I’m here to co-sign.

OMG Thank You for calling out the Bobbi Brown Face Base! That's one of the only products I've ever truly regretted buying, and my skin is very dry, so it's not just oily skinned people having trouble with it. I've also never found a single CT product that works for me. The colours are way too warm. Shape Tape? C'mon, I mean what even is that? And I loooove the Wet 'N Wild concealer, too; I even find myself reaching for just that over far more expensive foundation/concealer combos. You made me feel like I'm not crazy vis a vis Hourglass, as well, because I can never find a shade I'd actually wear to even be able to tell if I like the formula. You're spot on about everything, as usual, Robert! Okay, here are my hot takes: I don't understand why people adore the Tom Ford eyeshadow quads or the YSL lipsticks/balms/etc. Yes, the packaging is great for both, but the Tom Ford shadows tend to have lackluster powder formulations, plus at least one of three colours never seems to go with the others. The YSLs might have great formulas, but I wouldn't know it because the color stories are always wrong for me. Of course, it's a lip product, so could I find a shade that would be pretty on me? Sure. But none of them are like, "Omg, wow, that's BEAUTIFUL!" and at YSL prices, I need to love the color or at least not have forty identical shades at home already.
