Man this is the one of the best instructional videos I've ever seen. It's not fancy edited to make it look all professional! He hit record and even showed when something he tried didn't work. You don't get that with other more professional videos. I really appreciate the whole picture even when something didn't work and he tried something else. Great step by step instructions! I am about to go try this and I know it will work for my smelly mold ridden washing machine. Great Video Sir!!

It's amazing that the manufacturer wouldn't provide consumers the maintenance required on their high end products...especially when it was engineered for great performance but inferior to aftermarket issues like mold/mildew, especially in a washer...How many people would do the cleaning like in this video before ditching the machine? Shame on the brand/manufacturers for hiding facts that consumers need...Like recalls for automobiles with issues!

I’d like to second this!! My Samsung is 2 years old and after a year it started leaving literal dirt and grime on all my clothes that I stopped using it for about six months now. Today I decided to try to take it apart after countless attempts of cleaning it with vinegar, baking soda , and self cleaning cycles. I’m trying this as my last resort. Best video I’ve seen out of many on Samsungs that have mold and dirt not too long after being purchased ( with weekly maintenance).

Thanks for the video. I recently had to do this to my old Samsung due to moldy flakes getting in our laundry. You wouldn’t believe the amount of filth in that thing. I can live with it if nasty buildup is just an inherent problem with top-load washers, but you’d think the manufacturer could at least make these easier to take apart so we can clean them.

This is so encouraging to see that my washer can be taken apart. I made the mistake of washing some filthy muddy clothes in there recently and now I’m contending with residual sand. I’ve run 2 clean cycles (one with bleach to get rid of any potential bacteria) but still see evidence of sand. I know it can be damaging to the washer and clog up the drain pipe. Is it worth pulling the whole washer apart to rid it of the sand, or just the bottom cover and vacuum what I can see?
@wildwoodtop3 жыл бұрын
Make sure it's good and dry then remove the cover and vacuum (wet sand will not vacuum very well) this would give you a visual of how much is actually in the bottom. However each time you do a load of wash the sand would be diluted in the water and eventually exit via drain cycle (sand mixed with water shouldn't clog your plumbing system)

Before dismantling a washer to eliminate an odor try this simple solution. Take two cups of vinegar and fill up the tub , let it agitate for about three minutes and then let it soak for four hours. Complete the cycle and even try an extra rinse if your machine allows it. The consequence of odor buildup is a direct byproduct mandated federal government rules that limit the amount of water usage per washing cycle. As any laundromat owner knows, the less water used will often yield a customer unhappy with their clothes not appearing as clean.

QUESTION: I have a Samsung Washing Machine with a Self Clean feature. It was starting to have grains of sand type material after the Self Cleaning feature was used. It didn't do that in the past. I then bought Affresh, and it achieved larger results. There were large brown strings of scum for several times in a row when using the Self Cleaning feature with Affresh. So, I thought progress was being made. But, after about five uses of Affresh with the Self Clean, there was always the virtually identical result of having a small amount of residue similar to pieces of sand in the machine. It was like this even without using Affresh and only using the Self Clean. It seems like there is nothing that can be done at this point. Every time the machine is used, there are a tiny amount of particles of materials similar to tiny pieces of sand. What can be done to fix this problem?
@wildwoodtop2 жыл бұрын
Wished I could help Mike but I haven't ran into any sand situations and I'm not familiar with Affresh. Personally I didn't try any self cleaning procedures due to my brother conveying he couldn't get rid of the smell so I went full-bore with the cleaning as depicted in the video

How often should you do this type of deep cleaning? Are there certain washer brands that have this problem more than others?
@wildwoodtop3 жыл бұрын
This type of in-depth cleaning is performed only when all else fails. meaning under normal conditions you would do a deep clean after 30 loads of wash (cleaning instructions can be found in your manual) usually a deep clean cycle every month will keep your washer clean and sparkling fresh. however liquid detergents are known for clinging to the wash tub/ barrel drum creating substantial build up overtime which will lead to an unpleasant odor..Hope this helps! (bottom line if you cannot get rid of the odor/ mold smell this type of cleaning presented in this video is the solution! Note: as far as other brands being better than the other. If it's a drum style washer they're all going to have similar issue of unpleasant odors Even front loaders.

I just got one of these a couple months ago and I’m putting it through the cleaning cycle. I hope I never have a mold problem if I continue to do that, I’m also using the afresh pods. Please lmk if I do indeed have to ever deep clean, if I never get any bad smells.

Use a screwdriver to pick up the agitator plate from the center not from the sides. I had consistently been using the Affresh tablets and stopped using fabric softener. The thing is when I did take a look at the drum is was basically squeaky clean already so…if you’re consistently doing the cleaning tablets you could probably skip this. Though I really appreciate how instructive this video is.

Nice video. One note : you say that this is a last resort, after cleaning & soaking in mid wash with bleach or vinegar. Actually, you should use the Self Clean cycle it has on the selector. Runs with much hotter water, aggressive agitation, and for about 2 hours.

I've used the self clean cycle on my Samsung washer with vinegar and baking soda multiple times. Now, I'm taking my washer apart and finding moldy grime inside. The self clean cycle doesn't do enough!
@MonikaKrijgsman24 күн бұрын
When we first purchased our Samsung since it was under warranty we called out for repair because I kept seeing black particles in the wash and the drum. The repairman told me to always keep the lid open so it dries out and to use bleach with the cleaning cycle. I have in the past used vinegar and baking soda but feel that using bleach cleans it better. Unfortunately I made the mistake once of washing some towels and they were slightly bleached so now I know after the clean cycle I must only wash whites in the next load. But I am glad to see this video as I may try to remove the bottom plate to see if it truly is clean and if not we will have to remove the drum to really clean it. I just wonder how often should take your washer apart and do a deep clean.

I've done this a number of times with my LG which is almost identical. Another place where lint and mold collect is in between the layers of the agitator. There's a stainless steel upper part and a plastic lower part. Lint gets in between these layers and rots. The only way I was able to address this is by using muriatic acid to eat it away. Using strong chlorine (pool bleach) might also work. I also replaced the agitator because I couldn't get it clean.
@wildwoodtop Жыл бұрын
Curious 👍 Muriatic acid 😲 well deluded I assume 🤔 Muriatic acid will wreak havoc if set too long or used too often 🙂
@curiousone7863 Жыл бұрын
@@wildwoodtop Just the agitator after it's removed from the drum and then I used the pool shock muriatic acid (not sure what strength it is). It is VERY corrosive and harmful if you get it on your skin, in your eyes or you breath the fumes so use with great caution (gloves and eye protection required). But it did eat away at the lint. Otherwise, replace the agitator or try bleach (which is also hazardous especially when you use the pool strength which is much stringer than laundry bleach). DON'T mix bleach with acid though!

I didn't keep track and I took a lot of breaks 😋 2 hours tops should do it (most of the time was spent on figuring out how things came apart)

When you have a tub of water hit the on button and the washer will automatically go into drain cycle

I wish to disassemble mine to have a deep clean for my machine but I am afraid of not knowing how to put it back in one piece 😢

I wish if you had shown what settings to put it on to keep that pump running. I tried all options nothing worked.

If you have the same machine the fact that there is water already in the tub from cleaning and scrubbing when you start the unit it should automatically going to drain cycle

I’m going to be taking my washer apart shortly for an in depth clean. Thank you for the video! I do have a question though that I can’t find an answer to, my washer is just like the one in the video but white, where would it’s filter be if it even has one?
@wildwoodtop2 жыл бұрын
I was under the impression it had a filter but after going over this entire machine I did not find any (apparently this model does not have one like other brands do)

From my understanding, top load washers do not have a filter. I’ve researched this a bit on my Samsung as well. But I’m not the expert.

I don’t have a lot of room to move my washer around…. Do you think just taking out the agitator on the bottom to clean would help. My prior machine was 14 years old and I never cleaned it….. but it never really smelled either. 🤷🏻♀️ My machine is about 2 years old. I guess I’m just curious about the funk under the agitator… how much, if any. 😂
@wildwoodtop Жыл бұрын
Absolutely you can disassemble in place take the drum barrel outside give a good scrubbing then use the drain cycle to clean / rinse the inner. However like you said if you don't detect stench more than likely your barrel is clean Or the build-up has been sanitized 😂 Bleach 🤟

Great job awesome video I had to replace my transmission it was good but the threads for the agitator were in very bad shape and wouldn't hold the plastic. On my model, you couldn't replace the shaft it was built to replace the whole thing dang engineers! Thanks for the share hadden had any odor problems since. I use dishwasher machine gel to maintain it works well too.

I try this but the bolt resist Some suggestion ?
@wildwoodtop5 ай бұрын
5:26 use a steel center punch in the middle of the bolt and tap with hammer, taking care of you do not damage the outer Bolt and it should break free. repeat as needed
