Man this is the one of the best instructional videos I've ever seen. It's not fancy edited to make it look all professional! He hit record and even showed when something he tried didn't work. You don't get that with other more professional videos. I really appreciate the whole picture even when something didn't work and he tried something else. Great step by step instructions! I am about to go try this and I know it will work for my smelly mold ridden washing machine. Great Video Sir!!

It's amazing that the manufacturer wouldn't provide consumers the maintenance required on their high end products...especially when it was engineered for great performance but inferior to aftermarket issues like mold/mildew, especially in a washer...How many people would do the cleaning like in this video before ditching the machine? Shame on the brand/manufacturers for hiding facts that consumers need...Like recalls for automobiles with issues!

We just bought a really nice LG washer and dryer. WiFi. 2 loads in and cloths smell great. You could all but see sewer gas coming out of the old one. Learning how to take the tub out through these video’s. The manufacturer’s should design a way to get to the outside of that tub to clean it. Planned obsolescence at it’s finest!!!!!!!!

QUESTION: I have a Samsung Washing Machine with a Self Clean feature. It was starting to have grains of sand type material after the Self Cleaning feature was used. It didn't do that in the past. I then bought Affresh, and it achieved larger results. There were large brown strings of scum for several times in a row when using the Self Cleaning feature with Affresh. So, I thought progress was being made. But, after about five uses of Affresh with the Self Clean, there was always the virtually identical result of having a small amount of residue similar to pieces of sand in the machine. It was like this even without using Affresh and only using the Self Clean. It seems like there is nothing that can be done at this point. Every time the machine is used, there are a tiny amount of particles of materials similar to tiny pieces of sand. What can be done to fix this problem?
@wildwoodtop2 жыл бұрын
Wished I could help Mike but I haven't ran into any sand situations and I'm not familiar with Affresh. Personally I didn't try any self cleaning procedures due to my brother conveying he couldn't get rid of the smell so I went full-bore with the cleaning as depicted in the video

How often should you do this type of deep cleaning? Are there certain washer brands that have this problem more than others?
@wildwoodtop3 жыл бұрын
This type of in-depth cleaning is performed only when all else fails. meaning under normal conditions you would do a deep clean after 30 loads of wash (cleaning instructions can be found in your manual) usually a deep clean cycle every month will keep your washer clean and sparkling fresh. however liquid detergents are known for clinging to the wash tub/ barrel drum creating substantial build up overtime which will lead to an unpleasant odor..Hope this helps! (bottom line if you cannot get rid of the odor/ mold smell this type of cleaning presented in this video is the solution! Note: as far as other brands being better than the other. If it's a drum style washer they're all going to have similar issue of unpleasant odors Even front loaders.

I just got one of these a couple months ago and I’m putting it through the cleaning cycle. I hope I never have a mold problem if I continue to do that, I’m also using the afresh pods. Please lmk if I do indeed have to ever deep clean, if I never get any bad smells.

Good video! Only note I would make, is to re-install the bolt for the agitator a few threads and then you can lift it right out using the bolt instead of prying it out.
@roberts69005 ай бұрын
No fair.... I was gonna say that! 🤣
@curiousone7863 Жыл бұрын
I've done this a number of times with my LG which is almost identical. Another place where lint and mold collect is in between the layers of the agitator. There's a stainless steel upper part and a plastic lower part. Lint gets in between these layers and rots. The only way I was able to address this is by using muriatic acid to eat it away. Using strong chlorine (pool bleach) might also work. I also replaced the agitator because I couldn't get it clean.
@wildwoodtop Жыл бұрын
Curious 👍 Muriatic acid 😲 well deluded I assume 🤔 Muriatic acid will wreak havoc if set too long or used too often 🙂
@curiousone7863 Жыл бұрын
@@wildwoodtop Just the agitator after it's removed from the drum and then I used the pool shock muriatic acid (not sure what strength it is). It is VERY corrosive and harmful if you get it on your skin, in your eyes or you breath the fumes so use with great caution (gloves and eye protection required). But it did eat away at the lint. Otherwise, replace the agitator or try bleach (which is also hazardous especially when you use the pool strength which is much stringer than laundry bleach). DON'T mix bleach with acid though!

Use a screwdriver to pick up the agitator plate from the center not from the sides. I had consistently been using the Affresh tablets and stopped using fabric softener. The thing is when I did take a look at the drum is was basically squeaky clean already so…if you’re consistently doing the cleaning tablets you could probably skip this. This is so encouraging to see that my washer can be taken apart. I made the mistake of washing some filthy muddy clothes in there recently and now I’m contending with residual sand. I’ve run 2 clean cycles (one with bleach to get rid of any potential bacteria) but still see evidence of sand. I know it can be damaging to the washer and clog up the drain pipe. Is it worth pulling the whole washer apart to rid it of the sand, or just the bottom cover and vacuum what I can see?
@wildwoodtop3 жыл бұрын
Make sure it's good and dry then remove the cover and vacuum (wet sand will not vacuum very well) this would give you a visual of how much is actually in the bottom. However each time you do a load of wash the sand would be diluted in the water and eventually exit via drain cycle (sand mixed with water shouldn't clog your plumbing system)

Before dismantling a washer to eliminate an odor try this simple solution. Take two cups of vinegar and fill up the tub , let it agitate for about three minutes and then let it soak for four hours. Complete the cycle and even try an extra rinse if your machine allows it. The consequence of odor buildup is a direct byproduct mandated federal government rules that limit the amount of water usage per washing cycle. As any laundromat owner knows, the less water used will often yield a customer unhappy with their clothes not appearing as clean.

Awesome tutorial! I figured this needs to be done on mine before it starts to stink. Something tells me the self-clean cycle doesn't flush out all debris.

I have two questions bc I have this same washer in white: #1-How did the washer perform after being taken apart? #2-What kind of power washer is that? I need one for my home but shopping for one is a nightmare. Too many to choose from.

Performed excellent and solved the mold smell (Honda / Ryobi pressure washer) 8:50 be sure to take care with the lock so the lid doesn't slam open when the lock releases after the cycle

I have this problem, and I really don't want to go through this. I have never had a washer before this do it. It doesn't smell, but I have the gunk. There should really be a class action lawsuit. Mine is an LG.

I have this model. I want to start off by cleaning the debris trap but I don’t see a screw cap in the back where the house is. Any idea?

I looked all over this washer and I don't believe it has a debris filter trap
