When I saw the first few frames of the video, I knew that someone was dealing with severe depression. And my heart goes out to them. My hat is off to sisters, Yvonne and Angela. They are real troopers when it came to cleaning the older woman’s home. That was the worst they had seen ever, and yet, they turned it into a welcoming, clean space for her to come home to. Absolutely astonishing.

In The US there's a channel called Midwest Magic Cleaners. The Man who helps clean has a slight form of ADD, but he's a trooper. The Houses are much older from the 1960's and the folks who live there are older folks who are lonely, depressed and have nobody to come visit. Their children are sometimes beyond fed up, I wonder if any of them also had addiction problems. I think you have to have a solid strong mindset to do a job like this. 😊

Yvonne and Angela are amazing. The poor lady had not been in the bedroom since her husband died 9 years previously, I do wonder where all the dirt came from. If nobody had been in the room how did it get damp and mouldy?

Probably from a lack of circulation with the door being kept closed & the furnace system likely blocked. It’s very rainy in the UK, and then when you get a heat wave, that damp, hot bubble is a perfect breeding ground for mold.

They had to have done mold remediation and not just clean. Those spores will still be in the air and make whoever goes in there sick. There are people living in these conditions everywhere. Mental health services are desperately needed everywhere.

Hoarding is a psychological illness caused by extreme trauma.

Things like these accumulated over a long period of time, and the behavioural patterns will take a long time to fully reverse, and 'install' new ones. It is possible to get back to health, but the chance of success is much greater with high determination, and help from your surroundings. :) Often, the most important thing is to understand why it is happening - the underlying cause. Wether it is an emotional, physical or energy issue. Is it decision fatigue, having a low cleaning skill/never learned how, is it finding a better suited organizing style, and so on. Things like these are never just 'laziness', and the solution is never to 'just pull yourself together'. I think it will be normal to go back and forth for a while, until they get a grasp on things, while they are still healing. But eventually (if they keep at it), it will be less and less extreme, and the good periods lasts longer.

There is always a reason. The people in these situations always feel a great deal of shame and pain in the first place; just asking for help is a big deal because they are already deeply ashamed, and fear the people they reach out to will judge them. Just like you are judging them now. Shaming people for being down will only make them worse. You need to understand the reason, in order to know how to fix it permanently.

Mums and Dads please make your kids clean their rooms and help a little bit around the house eg dishes, wiping bench tops, vacuuming etc it will stay with them into adulthood. Pay them a little pocket money and it will cultivate their work ethic.

Having to see them cry after finding out that the bedroom was abandoned after the husband passed really got me. Working for the coroners (collecting people passed on in bad circumstances) with my brother... we have the same outlook - If WE DONT CARE - WHO WILL? I love the empathy, effort and endurance of these beautiful people🥰
