This video was life-changing. I popped the top off and ran it through my dishwasher after using this brewer for YEARS. Wow! And I got the powder to clean my carafe.... WOW. It's so sparkly now!! Thanks for posting this video.

Great cleaning advise! Plastic parts always worry me because they are so fragile, and no way to repair them. Your tips show good detail, and made the cleaning task very easy, with no broken parts. Thanks for the useful channel. It made me a subscriber.

I spray some Dawn Power Wash into the carafe and let it sit for a couple of minutes and then rinse well. The inside shines like brand new.

If this one is like my early model, after the top cap is removed from the lid, accidently pressing the lever will cause the entire mechanism to come apart. After crawling arond on the floor for all the little parts, it is a bit tricky to reassemble. Don't be tempted to press it to clean around the pour hole.

Descaling espresso machines usually involves stopping the cycle a few times and letting the machine rest with the solution inside so that it acts more effectively. I'm wondering if we shouldn't do the same with regular brewers too. Of course these brewers don't have a pump so it's harder to control the cycle accurately but still, if you shut them off, they'll stop pulling water within a few seconds. What do you think SCG?

Thanks for the tips! In case it’s helpful, Heads up: your links to descale stuff are broken.
@ascosta9 жыл бұрын
There are quite a few cleaning products with different names out there and sometimes they are basically the same thing. It's easy to distinguish descalers from the other ones because they'll explicitly have the word DESCALE somewhere on the label. But I get confused by the others that just say "cleaning solution", "cleaning tablets", etc.... I've identified two types in general: the detergent-like ones like Cafiza and the more potent protein-eating ones like Rinza. Which one would be similar to the one that Gail is showing in this video for cleaning the carafe? I've tried Cafiza to clean coffee stains in my white porcelain dripper with no success. Then I tried Rinza and it worked like a charm.

One more thing to do daily is to invert coffee maker in sink. There seems to be unbrewed water left in the tank that can only be removed this way.

Thank you for this video. I certainly found some new places in my brewer. Question: I removed the gasket on the caffe cap and now coffee leaks out... I have made several tries at reseting the seal with no success. Do you have any tips? thank you.

I found the liquid version of the descaler works better. The powder, even when dissolved and "flushed", ends up collecting in the boiler and fails to descale. Figured this out when I did some digging online and someone suggested to manually flush the tube of the reservoir with water and invert the machine over the sink. Bingo. Many black and white particles poured out with the water. This must be an unknown issue with Bonavita because their suggestion was to buy a new machine. Thankfully didn't have to go that route. I can't recommend the powder at all.

Here's one you probably haven't heard. I watched your video on cleaning and descaling a Bonavita coffee maker. After adding the powder, warm water, and stirring to devolve, I turned the machine on. After a few seconds, the machine seemed to have shorted out and died

Hi, Is descaling necessary if I only use filtered water?
@rickseneris5 жыл бұрын
The calcium minerals are not 100% filtered.
@ocelotxp5 жыл бұрын
Yes. Even if the water were 100% clean, a coffee maker can grow mold inside since it's a warm, moist environment. A descaler will destroy any mold and flush it out.
@annjacobs59386 жыл бұрын
Pulling that lid off looks to be possible trouble. The friction of plastic against plastic to remove - as well as to snap the shower head back into place - I believe this has made sharp streaks - like shards of plastic in the inside of the water holding tank. Surely Bonavita could do a re-design.Do you rip off half the top of a Mochamaster to clean it? JPJJ

Welp ... I used CLR in the wrong ratio and 10 or more runs through with clean water it still kinda smells like CLR so I guess I'm just screwed.

Do you think it would be ok to use Urnex's Cafiza brand cleaner instead?
@johnbonham19805 жыл бұрын
I know you posted awhile back ... but in case you see this, I've used Cafiza for years to clean drip brewers, and it works wonders. Clearly better coffee after giving it a clean with this stuff. Usually what I do is fill a large container with all the drip maker parts that need to be cleaned, very hot water and Cafiza (I toss in a couple tbsp for enough water to submerge all the coffee maker's parts), let it soak overnight, and then scrub/clean like handwashing dishes. This stuff completely cleanes stainless parts and, while plastic parts still smell a little like old coffee, the end product is noticeably better tasting.

Can someone help? My Bonavita BV1900TS stopped working after less than four years. It has been regularly descaled and cleaned, but it now fails to run. During this last cleaning, it stopped drawing the water in and now it just blinks. I contacted Bonavita and they told me that since it is past its warranty, they can't replace it (I expected that and did not ask for that), and they do not have a repair service and they simply cannot help me. And that was it. I am heartbroken, because I really liked that coffee maker. Now I'm stuck with it with no support at all from Bonavita. I ensured that the holes in the spray head are clear and not clogged. If you can help, please respond. Thank you!

+Seattle Coffee Gear I wonder why they don't make a flat bottom filter basket for the 5-cup.
@jeffreydeutsch73366 жыл бұрын
I have a 1901TS. It looks similar to the one in the video except the filter basket slides in on tracks on the underside of the top cover, instead of just sitting on the carafe. I assumed I could just pop the top off as you did but it not want to come off when I finally got it off I had broken a tiny piece of black plastic but it does not appear to be fatal. The spray head does not snap off. 5 screws would have to be removed to get it apart. It appears my top cover was never intended to be disassembled for maintenance. If it became necessary, it looks like the newer top cover would fit mine My basket will sit on the carafe without using the tracks. A warning on the video about the difference in the models would be helpful. The models sure look similar at a glance.
@rayiam74 жыл бұрын
I just cleaned mine and had to remove the 5 screws to get the spray head apart. Glad I did, because the inside of the spray nozzle where the hot water comes out had some kind of black stuff on it. I mean REALLY black, like powered carbon. Dish soap removed it. Also, the single screw that fastens the back of the spray head was rusted close to the failure point. I exchanged it and one of the other 4 screws that was in good shape. None of the videos I saw on line were for the model with the screws in the spray head.

Wrong! Do not put the powder in your coffee machine first and then add water. Mix the powder and water separately and pour into water reservoir.
