You’re right, Mitch. Unless you eliminate the source of the smell, it’s going nowhere. It doesn’t matter how many times to try to explain this, some people still insist on buying air fresheners to get rid of the smell because they don’t want to spend the money to actually get rid of the source of the smell. Air fresheners don’t get rid of smells, they only mask them.

i bought my car from a heavy smoker, and i've washed that car several times, scrubbed every seat and carpet i don't smell it anymore, i guess my nose just got used to it, but anyone that goes into my car says they can still smell it, in this case, the source of the smell is substances from the cigarettes that are still deep inside the seats and carpets?

"unless you eliminate the thing causing the smell- it's not going anywhere". Just.....Common.....Sense. And you can get MANY people to say this, or admit this, but, they will continue to buy stupid air fresheners, trying to mask the smell. Oh- and there IS a second way to get the smell out of the car... WALK YOUR DOG MORE OFTEN SO IT DOESN'T HAVE TO GO IN THE CAR. Again, the behavior that has to change is that of the people. (Dogs obviously have a much much better sense of smell that people do, so, the odds are, any dog that gets into the car, is going to know "this is wheres I peez!!!"
