I use this stuff. I use a soft boat brush and make short work on the hull. It’s simple, affordable and safer than many other products.

I’ve heard a lot of good stuff about bar keepers friend. Always use it on our glass top stove and it works great. May have to just give it a whirl! Thanks for the info there!

Have used it for years. I take a sponge mop and apply the toilet cleaner right to the mop and apply to the hull rinse with hose all done in five minutes!

Hey that’s a solid idea with the mop! Might just steal that one myself. Thanks for the tip!

I tried all the toilet bowl / soft scrub concoctions . They don’t work half as well as a product called On / Off hull cleaner . Try it , you’ll be glad you did . Super easy and fast

Thanks for the tip. Apparently this appears slow in this video and I’m not sure why but it worked well for me and took very little time. For reference as well, the On Off cleaner is $32 dollars for a 32 ounce bottle on Amazon (may be cheaper elsewhere) and the Lysol cleaner I used in this video is $4.40 at my local Dollar General for a two back of 24 ounce bottles. (48 ounces total) I’m sure there are products out there that most likely work better but for the Ol’ 98 model boat here, it worked well for me. Thanks for watching and thanks for the tip for other folks as well about that cleaner 👍🏻👍🏻

Nonsense.... Marykate on/off is an acid based cleaner. No different than acid based toilet bowl cleaners. There are tons of videos comparing toilet bowl cleaner to more expensive Hull Cleaners.....In every single one of these videos the toilet bowl cleaner works just as well if not better than the more expensive cleaners.....

I have never used a toilet bowl cleaner on my boat but I have been using On/Off for 8 or 9 years and it does a great job removing those ugly tannin stains. The one caution is don’t let it get on either a painted trailer as it will peel the paint, and it will discolour a galvanized trailer. Just put some old wet towels over the trailer in the area you are working on. The downside to On/Off is the cost, especially if you buy it from a marina. I am going to look into toilet bowl cleaner to save a few bucks. The other thing that toilet bowl cleaner is great at is removing hard water stains in the bathroom ….especially in the shower.
@softballbryan

I’ve used both. The on/off is powerful and tough on the lungs. Great stuff if you must use it but the toilet bowl cleaner is way safer.

Super Iron Out. About $8 for a bottle. Just a little bit of the powder in a bucket of water, don’t breathe it in. Use a deck brush to slap in on the hull then rinse off. 1 bottle will last you the whole season and is the best product for this by far! 🇨🇦
@deksea
@deksea 10 ай бұрын
Agreed. Tried a whole batch of different cleaners including toilet bowl cleaner. Iron out worked the best, hands down. I think its probably easier on the gel coat as well.

Well if you want to discolor the gelcoat go for it.Been detailing yachts for 25 years now and only use FSR which is made for the job.
@problynotthebestgarage
@problynotthebestgarage Жыл бұрын
Maybe it will discolor it at some point but as of now I’ve seen absolutely no discoloration whatsoever. As I said….seal it up after. In all fairness, I’d bet if you’re detailing a yacht instead of a 25 year old bass boat…sure use something else. I’m sure a yacht owner would love to see someone wiping toilet bowl cleaner on their expensive boat 😂 Thanks for the info on another cleaning option for folk though. I do appreciate that.

I have cleaned dozens of boats. Never a single discoloration of the gel. There are hundreds of videos on youtube, no one says they had discolorations. Just about every boat in our 400 boat marina uses toilet bowl cleaner.........
@rx7dude2006
@rx7dude2006 Жыл бұрын
@@nightlife1970 Basically the acid is doing the removal of the stain. The biggest thing is that the acid will also etch the gel coat and if you don't want to have it stain right away when put back in the water, you will need to polish the gel and wax it.
@nightlife1970
@nightlife1970 Жыл бұрын
@@rx7dude2006 SO then you are saying all acid based hull cleaners stain the hull. Kind of a strange way to look at it. As any hull waxed or not will get stained, it will just take the waxed hull a little longer. But it does not matter. As I have not seen a non acid based cleaner that will take the stains out. Acid works nothing else does.

The active ingredient on most toilet bowl cleaners is hydrochloric acid. Not sure if I would use it on gelcoat. Soap, water, and a micro fiber rag will get that scum off with about as much agitation as you applied with your glove. Chase it with some FLITZ to polish, and your boat will be squeaky clean with nothing harmful applied.
@problynotthebestgarage
@problynotthebestgarage Жыл бұрын
I have heard of Flitz but haven’t had any experience with it. I’ll have to check that out. As for the “scum” line though, this is well beyond scum. It is imbedded stains in the gel coat and would not budge with any soap or anything else leading to this point. I tried it all. Trust me when I say my first choice would not be going straight to anything acidic. Hopefully that cleared up any confusion I may have not been too clear on there. This isn’t a dirty boat this is a stained boat. Again though, I appreciate the tip on the FLITZ! Stay safe out there
@matthewpeterson3329
@matthewpeterson3329 Жыл бұрын
@Probly Not The Best Garage Yeah, Flitz was originally designed for taking oxidation off fiberglass. Turns out its bitchin for polishing aluminum and takes the dull sand blasted look out of powder coating too. Best polish I have found. Check your local gun shop.

Aren't the stripes under gelcoat If there's no discoloration of the gelcoat why couldn't you spray it on Just woundering
@problynotthebestgarage
@problynotthebestgarage Жыл бұрын
Yes that is 100% correct. The gel coat is over the top (similar to a clear coat I would say) and the cleaner did not hurt the stripes in any way. If I need to do it again later which I’m sure I eventually will need to, I will spray it on just for a quicker process. Be mindful of anything chrome or metal in general though. That toilet bowl cleaner doesn’t like metal at all. Thanks for the question!

I don't know if you said it or not, but after cleaning it with the toilet bowl cleaner, would I need to then wax it? In other words, does the toilet bowl cleaner strip the wax off? Okay, never mind at the very end you said it, it does need to be waxed lol
@problynotthebestgarage
@problynotthebestgarage 2 ай бұрын
That’s correct! 110% make sure you wax it. I’ll be editing and posting an “over a year” review of the boat soon as well so watch for that. **I’ll give you a hint though, I wouldn’t hesitate doing it again**. Thanks for watching and stay safe out there

If I went that slow on one spot the job would take 2 days. What about a video for people who dont like to polish a boat with a diaper every time it gets used...

Not sure what you mean there. The whole process start to finish on the entire boat took just a couple minutes over one hour. Pretty quick process to me. Also to be clear this was never meant to be a “polishing” video. This is strictly how to get the stains out. But thanks for the comment! And thanks for watching. Stay safe out there

Pull your head in buddy It's NOT the OPs fault that you bought a completely different branded product! There are only 3 scenarios in which you could make a statement like that in good faith 1. You are making assertions that the OP is a Liar and deliberately misleading his audience, but why would he do that? 2. You are making accusations that the OP used special effects and Photoshop to deceive his audience into believing that LYSOL would work to remove Hull waterline scum lines and discolouration. Or the most likely scenario is 3. Your incompetence has led you to purchase the incorrect product and when it didn't work you immediately make accusations that OPs method "DOESN'T WORK" which I can personally attest to that it most certainly DOES WORK if you buy the actual product OP demonstrates in this video. Derrrrh 🙄
