I'm so happy you did! Sometimes you just have to trust the process and finish it!

It amazes me how similar we are in regards to collage art. I have the same cutter, plastic storage boxes, and many of your source materials are what I use too. I have vintage magazines, atlases, science text books, astronomy books, and tons of bird books. I am evolving my style and sometimes incorporate needle crafts with my collages, such as cross stitch, embroidery, and sewn string art. I love both paper and needle crafts so why not use both.

I'm glad you have similarities! Great minds think alike? 😂 I love that you've been able to do both passions in one!

When the muse strikes with inspiration it can happen in an instant like with the first two pieces.Text activates a collage in a whole new way visually,adds a dynamism.The russian posters could be a series maybe....So inspired by your may art prompts which I'm still working with and posting on Pinterest.Hope the collage clean up continues to inspire you.(Matt)

My table has a ton of piles like that right now too. I'm realizing that's why I'm having some resistance to completing my in process pieces. Today's the day for a little cleanup here too!

Glad I could inspire a good clean up! I always debate with myself at what point is it not going to become an artwork and it's time to clean it up!

As far as the creepy and ugly piece goes, I would not hang it on my wall, but there are many people who would. There is such depth of meaning in it and it is well made. Note: I also don’t see horror movies either. Thanks for sharing❤

Aww thank you, I agree with you! That is why I often feel as though I do not create for myself but for others to resonate with.

I’m starting out with collage and my biggest question is are we allowed to sell our artwork? I know I’m not even close to that step yet but I can’t find a good answer anywhere. How do we know if it’s allowed, is it only safe to sell if the collage is made with vintage source material?

I'm working now on putting a video together to answer this in depth; stay tuned!!!

Beginner question: Is there any issue of legality of using images from magazines? I notice some artist use very old magazines. Are images from newer magazines full copyrighted? It seems collage artists have been using magazine images forever. I have always wondered if this is any big concern?
@flanzella Жыл бұрын
This is definitely not a beginner question but rather THE question. I'm currently taking an art and copyright course and hope to share more knowledge on this soon. All of them technically are copyright. Depending on the country you are in there are different rules on how they may be used. My "philosophy" is to change an original image 50% and change the original meaning completely. If you are just embellishing the original image, it shouldn't be counted as a new object. If you change the conversation, then now the image is commenting on something completely different.

@@flanzella thank you. This issue has really held me back from some types of collage. It seems to be such a grey issue. Thanks for digging into it. I hope to hear more from you on the subject. Good for you for taking that course. thanks so much , Cathy

In my opinion, it should never hold you back as long as you are changing the original meaning! Also if you are just creating and not selling, I don't see the issue!
