Dude, you ROCK!! I've been fighting with this thing for weeks, it wouldn't print black at all. I did it in the sink with the power spray nozzle, put a short piece of packing tape over the gold contacts and pressed it down good. Rinsed it for 5-10 minutes until the water ran clear, dried it, took the tape off, reassembled the foam things and put it back in. Ran a couple of cleanings to get things flowing and she's working like a charm. Thank you so much! Canon Pixma MX922

Nice idea washing it with the hose. Just a note I picked up from another video. If you want to make pulling the print head out easier - where you don't have it hitting on the Left Hand side - hold the cancel button down for 6 seconds and then release. The print head moves into a spot where the drawer pulls out easily.
@DisgruntledPigumon4 жыл бұрын
BEWARE! You are supposed to hold the RED BUTTON for 3 seconds until the print head changes to “print head removal mode”. This moves the print head over to the right slightly so you can EASILY pull the color lever and remove the print head. You couldn’t get yours out easily and likely bent some plastic because you skipped this important step. Also, that kind of water pressure used could easily destroy the thin, fine metal mesh of the print head.

i still have my Canon Pixma MG6620 from 2014 (bought it new at MicroCenter, Cambridge MA).... still runs good as new in Feb. of 2020. Latest firmware. Cloud printing, scanner, all work perfectly. My secret? I just left it the hell alone. I just made sure to print a couple pages or a small photo maybe twice a month. Oh, and I made sure that none of the ink cartridge reservoirs ever ran flat out (I don't trust the software or touchscreen ink level indicators). Yeah, I also buy Arthur 251XL cartridges in bulk off the web...as good as Canon OEM ink, or better. $20 bucks USD, for 28 cartridges.

My problem with my Pixma 4500 was that I was getting streaks (not solid white) across the photos evenly spaced from each other. As mentioned, not a pure white streak but there was some color in the streak but it didn't match up with the rest of the photo. What I did with mine is I also removed the nozzle end with the two screws that hold it in place. Ink gushed out of there so I know it's super clean now. Will be testing it tomorrow. Hope it works. It's a 6 year old printer but with very low usage and still looks new. I don't want to get rid of it, may have to buy a new print head.

Might work, but what if you live in an apt. and don't have a garden hose? Also, it might be overkill if you only have one color not printing. I would try using 90% plus alcohol soak first and see if that works. BTW. Most clogged nozzles are from not using the printer enough. Do a nozzle check pattern print out once a week which uses all the carts. to prevent drying out.

Great Video. I've got a MB5320 Canon printer - love love love best line by far that I have owned for a ink jet - 20K pages printed since I bought it. I use the heck out of it. I don't print in color, everything is B&W but of course it still uses color ink which is kind of stupid. Printing was getting really choppy and unusable for my purposes out of align with a ton of missing ink sport bad for barcodes. Print head simply would no longer clean. I pulled mine out and used your video as a reference. I did an initial rinse of the print head then let it soak in mild dish soap and warm water for half hand hour. Don't use chemicals - not necessary. Then ran water through the tubes at faucet speed with moderately hot water until clear - another half an hour. Dried it up gently using a cloth and then a hair dryer on cold. Back to printing like new. Darn if I don't think I'll get another 20K pages out of this beast! Wife was like go get a new one.... nope, just saved me some benjamins as I like to buy the better quality stuff as it tends to last longer! Thanks for the useful video man! Don't let em cry about the music, you do you man!

Plastic tape over electrical contacts is a great way to destroy the fragile electricals inside the head (static electricity kills electronics) and water promotes corrosion . The best way to clean a print head is place the nozzle plate in a shallow bath of isopropyl alcohol and drip some IA onto the ink ports. I have cleaned many blocked heads this way with out the static or water risks.

I took out the rubber seals but when I went to put them back in I noticed that one side is flat and the other side has a ridge around the edge of the seal. Also the hole in the seal is not in the center front to back. Of course I didn't pay attention to this when I took the seals out so I didn't know which way to put them back. It is difficult to see the seals clearly in the video but I think that the ridge side goes down (flat side up) and the larger area of the seal front to back goes toward the rear. I hope this is right.

I use near boiling water gently poured all over in a small bowl so the P.Head sits in it for a while and slightly expands due to the heat..Then I rest printhead on kitchen cloth/towel/paoer and fill area around each colour inlet with same hot water, and let the heat take its course and water drain through into the folded kitchen paper. Ten I can visually see the clogged inks coming out. I do this until the ink appears weak on the cloth. Then I allow to dry. For me, good as new.

I have a MG5420. The bar with the color coding can be pulled straight toward you--it comes out about 1/2 inch (a little under 2 cm). There are four plastic dividers to space the print cartridges which you can see with a flashlight (torch). The one between the biggest black cartridge and the yellow one is close to the middle of the print head and is higher than then the others. I grabbed that with the index finger of each hand and rolled the part closest to me up and wiggled the thing back and forth, pulling toward me with moderate pressure. It took me several attempts as it did this gentleman trying to get it out. I found that the thing rolled up and toward the back of the printer with the end closest to me moving in an arc-shaped motion. I have cleaned it (using a shallow bowl and eye-dropper and about 30 spritzes of distilled H2O until the water in the bowl (which I made sure did not contact the gold portion with any water) was clear. Now I'm waiting for it to dry (most Utubes and comments on the Internet recommend ten hours or overnight.) So I haven't tried to wrestle the thing back in yet.

I've got blank sheets of paper printing (not a speck of ink on the paper) and still happening despite having cleaned the print head thoroughly (several times as per tap water and sitting in bath of hottish water for hours. Cleaned carefully. Nozzles all seem fine now so must be something else with the printhead or the printer lost its marbles. Sale on at Currys, got a decent all in one for £45. Useful to know all this though and once the new one is out of warranty I will be buying some isopropol alcohol and a bit of tubing rather than go down the garden hose route - but I'd use that if all else failed!
@azhariqbal1857 жыл бұрын
This is a high risk procedure. You could punch a hole through the print-head with a high pressure hose connection. Remember; the inlet ink hole for each print head is very small. Few millimeters across. So its like hitting a nail through the print-head membrane with a garden hose. So very high risk!!! DO NOT DO this on every occasion. When you get a clogged print-head!!

IPA and electronic contact cleaner should do the trick. I wouldn't use the tape or the garden hose! lol

Brilliant, who would've known how many tiny nozzles there are, they get blocked when you don't use the printer for a long time. When ink doesn't flow through those tiny jets, that's when the printhead resistors get blown, then you have "printhead error" = get a new one.

You forgot to replace the rubber pads that sit around the top of the jet head !
