Ceramic molds are made from a substance called gypsum. We know it as plaster. Molds like these are made using USG #1 Pottery Plaster. Old molds like these don't do well under bad weather conditions. They swell up in extreme heat and shrink in freezing cold temperatures. This causes the molds to warp, and that causes the molds to leak when you pour them. Wear gloves and a face mask. The mold dust and plaster particles will destroy your lungs if you're not careful. I'm excited for you. I've been doing this for over 50 years. Have fun!!

Love the vid. Would like to know why you like Velcro over ratchet straps and second is dry brushing the best way to get dry clay out of your molds?

Is it the best to clean it with a wet brush?

Never use direct water. You can use a damp sponge as not to disturb the detail of the mold. Rats and mice along with snakes LOVE ceramic molds. The rodents like to file their teeth in on the inside as well as the outside of the mold. These molds look very dirty. You really should wear gloves and a dust mask. Believe me. I've been doing this for the past 50 years. They also look like they were wet or submerged in water like in a flood. The yellow stains are rats urine. They can be cleaned but be careful. You can get sick.
