Thanks: I am not sure, do you clean the sensor of Sony with the camera ON?

Hello, I have followed your advice on cleaning the SL2, which get dusty in a hurry, with great success. I am curious as to how you would clean the X2D, which also has IBIS. Hasselblad's recommended method implies using Compressed air, which I would never use. Since the camera has IBIS would you power on the camera as with Sony or Leica? I also assume even using a hand blower, you would still want the sensor locked down? Thanks

I have a Panasonic Lumix G9M2 mirrorless camera. Quick question. Do I clean the sensor with the camera turned on or off? Some say on to lock the sensor others say off. Bit confused. Also do I turn the image stabilization on or off? In all the videos I have seen these questions are not addressed. Help/Advice please.

Way better than Tony Northrup's video

On the Sony, run the Cleaning Mode from the setup menu to shake off dust, but do not switch the camera off when it finishes. The sensor will then be both locked in place and also discharged of static for cleaning. I was told this by an experienced Sony technical person.

Hi Ken, this is a very useful hint, I was not aware of that. Will try out next cleaning round. Many thanks for sharing!

Sorry but this does not work on the A7RV!!

@@mathphotographerI just tried it, turns out that when you do the auto sensor cleaning it actually says on the screen you can shut off the camera or manually clean before shutting off the camera.

Nice one. Thanks for the info. This made my more confident to clean my own G9. I don't have time to wait for someone else to do it.

Thank you for the tips. My Leica store recommends use of the gel stick cleaner. Do you have any experience with these and, if so, why do you prefer the fluid/swab method?

Interesting. I have not used gel stick cleaners, need to look into that. Thanks for pointing out!

@@mathphotographer See my postscript. Gel sticks are not recommended for cameras with IBIS because they require more pressure than swabs.

@@SLO_Foto They work fine. Move along.....

Hi! Great video, as always, thanks. My sensor on the SL2 is moving and bouncing around quite a bit when the camera is switched off. Especially when held in a lens-down position to swap lenses. I know it's floating and the magnetic field is putting this thing in place. I was just wondering, wether it's the same with your SL2, since it seems a bit too much? Thanks.

Hello Math! Great video. I just cleaned my sensor without locking it. I was verry gentle with it simce it was moving arround but than i found out about locking the sensor and now i am freaking out. The IBIS works fine but i was wondering what kind off damage may i have caused that i will find out later. Thank you in advance 🙏

Hi! Did it end up causing any damage? I had mine locked for most rounds or cleaning but didn't do it for 1 second, two different times and I am also freaking out. It looks okay but how can I even tell.

Its easy. Clean it under floating water three times a month. If there is really nasty dirt... get the tooth brush out! :D

Hi Math, when you refer to legacy cameras I assume you also including the latest cameras that don't have IBIS like the Sony A6400? Thanks and regards.
@mathphotographer4 жыл бұрын
Yes. For IBIS cameras you have to find the individual mode that keeps the sensor sturdy, for non-IBIS cameras the sensor is fixed/sturdy anyway.
@kalleankaa75363 жыл бұрын
its better to turn it on then go to settings and turn off IBIS. it is not really turned off but in a stable way without compensation from movement.
