Cleaning gauge blocks

One thing I don't see mentioned is what is the best thing to put on your gage blocks to prevent rust after use? I'm guessing a light oil but this would require for them to be cleaned before each use, which I imagine should be done anyway on the paper. I guess my question would be is to use what type of oil to protect them, a light gun oil or is there something better?

Buy some camphor paper, and put a slip of it in the box with the blocks.

Using any form of grease is not good, if the slip gauges do not stay together without grease there is something wrong with them. Try wringing them together with twisting motion.

Dont hold the gauge block for too long in order to avoid heat and have accurate measures
