The official name for the acm tactic used is “picking”. Fly high, search for an unsuspecting victim and “pick” him lick a ripe fruit. The tactic was masterfully used. Checking 6 with paranoid passion is mandatory in a wwii air combat sim

Mandatory even in a modern setting. You never know if you are about to eat an Igla or an R-27ET or R-73 from a MiG-29 or Su-27 sneaking with EO and not on RWR and AWACs doesn't see them so not on data link.

Not a lot In my mind BnZ is a tactic you transition to if you don’t kill the target on your first pass. That’s assuming you still have the energy The target is probably now aware of you and is now defensive Assuming you are in an energy fighter BnZ is the usual tactic. If you’re in more of a turn fighter you may elect to Turn and Burn. But Picking is the term most used when you kill an unsuspecting target. Like diving through a furball and shooting some poor sob who is fixated on someone else. Sorry I get long winded

Oh, I don't know. Doesn't appear too farfetched. Statistically, it took an average of around 25 .50 hits to bring down a single-engined WWII fighter. Even with 6 guns at 800 rpm, that's still a solid 0.3s burst assuming all of them hit.

Seems like lots of 'German' guys on the server used to play IL-2, which is predominantly based on the Eastern front, that's why they don't expect that someone can fly higher than themselves. Soviet crafts (Yak-1, Lagg-3, La-5, as well as American P-39) were made for low and medium altitude fights. There was only one high-altitude Soviet craft in WWII which is Mig-3.

The 109 is a minimalist fighter. It seems like the cockpit was an after thought, very cramp. 109 pilots must of been very uncomfortable flying that thing. It has poor visibility, especially looking back, hard to check 6. No rudder or aileron trim, only elevator trim, you have to constantly pull the stick left to counter the torque. The aircraft is stressful to fly needing constant attention. But it is very responsive and can out climb any other WW2 fighter in DCS which is a good advantage. My fighter of choice. Fly it with discipline and you will be successful, just watch out for Growling Sidewinder on your 6.
