@@GrowlingSidewinder Please man... Look, I love the one circle catfights in the F-14, the awesome BF-109 action, and the SEAD work in the Apache... But nothing brings home the visceral nature of true air to air combat like flying an armed kite up someone's six o'clock, and shattering the cockpit with twin MG's. The screams are both haunting and somehow mesmerizing. But more than anything, it's an almost beautiful ballet of death, almost more of an art form than a science. Hands down some of the best content on the internet. You bring us along and make it feel like we're there in the sky. Keep it up, GS...

@@GrowlingSidewinder YES please:) that and ww2 content as well as much as i enjoy bvr, stealth tactics and fast modern dogfights with missiles and aiming computers, the dogfights of the past have something visceral to them. like you said, the insanity of flying a canvas and wooden kite to shoot at other people, and a few decades later full metal planes but still pretty much the same.. machine guns and flying skills. i love it so much

He talks a different way. If they met under different circumstances though they would probably enjoy hanging out and having a beer and a meal together. Later on, another ape that can talk and wears clothes is using a 'computer' to simulate the act of killing using these weird machines. This is entertainment.

Good vid. Try using the blip switch when you’re overshooting. It will cut the rotary engine for as long as you hold it, and so long as you don’t hold it for more than a few seconds you won’t kill the engine. You can also use the blip to slow yourself when diving to protect from over revving

@jefftheriault55222 жыл бұрын
That's not something these planes did. The engine might bounce on frozen ground, or a cobblestone street, but the aircraft structure becomes a tangled heap with an unpleasant surprise within. There are also reports of pilot and observer doing a bounce. I remember reading an account of a Bristol two seater doing a loop over the home field after a mission. Wings folded, and the crew were ejected, and bounced once right to the feet of a bunch of people in formation for some event or other.

The whole fighter thing in WWI & WWII was so much more immediate than it is these days. As you see in this video, you almost have to be within spitting distance to be sure of a kill. When aircraft were first introduced, pilots were carrying personal weapons in order to shoot the other guy down. These were mostly pistols, but sometime rifles!
@mortenBP2 жыл бұрын
First weaponry onboard aircraft from 1914 was actually rifles or pistols and the aircrafts were for observation only. But it didn't take long before someone decided to put a machinegun on an aircraft. First machineguns were placed high to fire over the propeller. Then through the turning propeller with metal plates on the prop blades to avoid shooting the prop to pieces. Then soon came the syncronized system.
