Spent all day cleaning my valves, it was definitely worth it and they were filthy! Car never had a OCC and only recently had the EGR delete. Lots of gunk on the valves that would have robbed me of a few HP.

No problem, it paid off, the car is making right at 400 whp now i think the valve cleaning really helped.

Do those seal better than the Jbr?
@nikolasvel5 жыл бұрын
Is it necessary to remove the drive belt? I was under the impression that you can turn the crank pulley bolt to close the valves with the belt in place

Did you try installing the Jbr gasket? If so did they leak at all? If they did how can you tell?

Where did you purchase the walnut media?
@TMERUNNR6 жыл бұрын
I received my Corksport IM and asked Luke what gasket he recommended because my JBR tig is leaking. He pointed me to Adaptive Performance this guy makes gaskets. AP SINGLE RUNNER SUPER TIG - Thermal intake manifold gasket for mazdaspeed 2.3 mzr / DISI engine - MRF Metal reinforced cellulose fiber / silicone. They hold there shape and don't bend. Plus, he sales the XS Power V3 Exhaust manifold .

STreet Tards Quick question, Will the Harbor freight 21 gallon air compressor do a decent job to media blast my intake valves? Also, where do you get the walnut media?? Thanks, Travis
@6shigh6 жыл бұрын
Where are you located? Anybody in San Diego or even LA that can help me do this?
@mjl64255 жыл бұрын
Hey quick question, I am trying to Walnut blast the valves. I just finished piking them as best as I can but it’s just not coming off. There still a layer of sludge on the outside of the valve. I’ve walnut blasted over 6 times it’s not doing anything. Am I missing something here what am I doing wrong?
@knappe32235 жыл бұрын
Are you soaking the valve in b12 with the piston top dead center before doing the blasting?
@knappe32235 жыл бұрын
You should be able to spray b12 chemtool into the valve area and fill it, nothing should drip down into the cylinder, let it sit for 20-30 minutes then blast/pick it
@mjl64255 жыл бұрын
yup turn the crank bolt and sprayed some B 12 in there. First time it started draining a little so I turn the Baltimore and now it’s sealed completely. Let it soak for 30 to 40 minutes picked sucked up the flu and then media blasted. I think the problem may be my compressor is too weak But I found a better way. I’m actually using these tiny little brass brushes I got from Harbor freight on my drill. I’m finally seeing some results! Just got a spray again let it soak and go out it again.

man I can't wait to see this finished! I am curious to see what kinda numbers it makes. what kinda fuel will you be running?
@knappe32237 жыл бұрын
I have the base mape already in, so its a rush for me to finish now so I can start tuning, Freek starts you off on 93 then after everything looks good ill be on 25% e85. He said I should easily make 380WHP/380WTQ
@gimmethecarkeys7 жыл бұрын
you guys and your e85. I am jealous. I only have pump 92 available where I live in Washington. I was planning on probably going meth in the future. but 1 step at a time.
@knappe32237 жыл бұрын
Whats the closest station to you? You cant do barrel buys? I would look into buying a 55 gallon drum, if you have a truck or different daily, you could go fill that up every few months, e85 isnt expensive, its like 2.00$ a gallon, and the most you will run is 50/50 so a full tanke would need 6 gallons of e85, that barrel would last you a long time if you only used it when you went out for runs. I feel lucky E85 is 4 miles from house. Thanks for tuning in Kyle
@gimmethecarkeys7 жыл бұрын
I think there is 1 station about an hour from my house. I live in Bellingham Washington and I think Marysville is the closest. I swear we only have like 5 pumps if any withing a 400 mile distance lol.
@gimmethecarkeys7 жыл бұрын
Never thought about buying a barrels worth... honestly I am sort of afraid to switch to e85. I have never used it and all I hear is the horror stories. My car is my daily and for some reason part of me is on the fence about switching just because it may cause reliability issues. But perhaps I am just over thinking it.

What is the grit of the walnut media you used?
@knappe32237 жыл бұрын
Ill have to look at the box, but i just remember there were two options, fine or course, fine is what you want.
@brettwhite087 жыл бұрын
24 Grit is the one you want. 12 tends to clog up the gun. Good video. Will make a side note that the drive belt does not need to be removed on the gen 2 as there is no power steering pump in the way. The ability to rotate the motor manually does not change with or without the belt on :)

Is it hard getting the intake manifold off? My ms6 just started misfiring like crazy. Threw a po302 code. I changed the plugs since they were shot, I remember #2 being covered in oil and it didn't help. Going test the coil pack next but I think it's the injector.. I have to take the intake manifold to get to them so I figured I'd go ahead and clean the valves while I'm at it. Excellent video! Keep them coming. Also, where did you get the Walnut shells?
@craigzilla1006 жыл бұрын
Additional note- 112k miles on it. And these engines burn oil like crazy. I hear a lot of people say that.. I used to leak real bad, and went to change the valve cover gasket and saw a giant crack in the timing chain cover where oil was just spewing out the back. I patched it with JB weld and now she's just burning away.. ugh. I like working on cars, but I think I bit off more than I can chew on this one
@knappe32236 жыл бұрын
If you are burning a ton of oil the culrprit on this car is most likely the k04 turbo, they are known for going bad often. do you get alot of smoke out the back? In most instances a banjo bolt from JBR can fix this, but often upgrading or replacing the turbo is the end result. If you remove the valve cover make sure you put RTV gasket maker on two pointso n the timing chain where the block meets, and the small hump on the right side of theengine if you are facing it from the front.
@knappe32236 жыл бұрын
walnut media is from harbor freight, and yeah the car hass gone so far, i need to make a update video, its full blown racececar now.
@craigzilla1006 жыл бұрын
STreet Tards thanks for the reply. No smoke out the back unless I stomp on the gas and apply full boost. It spits a small dark cloud and stops so I think that's just carbon buildup. No steady smoke. I swapped the coil packs and still got a misfire on cyl 2. Did a compression test (cold engine) and got 135 on 1,3,4 but 0!!! On cylinder 2. Either I've got valves that aren't sealing anymore or I've got some much bigger problems! Any thoughts? What's common on these cars? I'm still a noob here. I wish I had a leak down kit.

STreet Tards I'm on 38K so will definitely be doing it once I've blocked EGR and done OCC. Think most of the issue is due to EGR, your valves look just like my tail pipes haha
