I think it was just gas. Diesel has oil in it which would stick to the catalyst mesh. Gas is a solvent and evaporates.

Those converters r made of steel housing nd honeycomb catalyst r made of rhodium nd platinum the expensive parts. Clean nd reuse it . Dont let ur mechanic break it. Better teach them the importance of it. 👍

Once I went to a local mechanic to adjust my new iridium spark plug because I didn't had sparkplug guage . I just gaved him for a look, before asking him whether he has an sparkplug guage, he just put an screwdriver and bended the iridium tip of my sparkplug he completely ruined it and I asked him why did you bend the iridium tip and he told me this is the way he usually does the work then he took an cutting blade and again shaved of the tip. He didn't even have a guilt in distroying someones property and I never got any compensation for the loss. I was in a shock that most of the local mechanics doesn't had even basic tools, to know more I went to 3 local small twowheer workshops and found that they also didn't have sparkplug guage. I have seen those mechanics trashing inside the engine heavily with heavy metal hammers, instead of rebuilding your engine they are just trashing it and many rebuilded motorcycle engines even never had half the milage before rebuild. Those mechanics are never caught because they never give or have any billing facility so people doesn't have evidence to prove. I still today believe that every action has equal and opposite reaction.

Washing with diesel is not necessary. Wash with transmission fluid and then petrol. Final cleaning with caustic sofa and hot water. Dry with pressure air.

We can't clean a catalytic converter. The catalyst will get damaged and won't work after you pour other liquids like water or other cleaners.only you can remove the carbon and other particles on the catalyst.but it won't function after that . The only option is to change the catalytic converter.

The catalyst is Platinum plated ceramic with a rhodium layer to harden the platinum. Water is part of the exhaust normally. Not a lot that can dissolve platinum group metals. The main culprit for damage to cats is getting clogged from bad fuel ratio and forming a hot spot that allows heat to collect instead of venting with the exhaust and melts the honey comb.

What is the use of installing catalytic converter in cars, you are not supposed to wash and and re-use it. It is supposed to be removed and disposed safely to lock the carbon away without releasing it into the environment. But you have rendered the use of catalytic converters by washing it with diesel, petrol and water and dumbing all the contents into the gutter or whatever which will ultimately pollute rivers or ponds or any other environment in the vicinity and the whole biome eventually. We should also be aware that the catalytic converter also traps harmfull ions which should be careful disposed.

Mostly it is Carbon, Sulphur etc. as far as I know, nothing too much polluting in land or water, as against polluting the air when it is in gaseous form (Sox, Nox, CO ) etc. Catalytic converter is mainly used to trap gases and he is not releasing the pollutants in gaseous form.
