CLEANING MY CHILDHOOD TEDDY BEAR FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 13 YEARS

This is a totally random video but I wanted to document it just in case someone else might have a grimy stuffed animal they need to clean. I’ve had this bear for 18 years and have slept with it every night, but it hadn’t been cleaned in 13 years.....so it was time to finally let go of my anxiety about cleaning it and I’m so glad I did!

One time I accidentally left my teddy bear at a hotel 2 hrs away from home. We called the hotel company and they found the bear. They washed the bear for us and sent it on a bus all by itself sitting in its own chair while we drove to the bus station. We found the bus and walked inside, and the bear had its own seat. I was sooo happy!

I had a teddy bear since I was one I had him for 21 years. I heartbreakingly lost him last year. We recently bought a new bear from the same company. And he looks almost the same. Just a little newer looking. I know I’m an adult but I really miss my original teddy. 😭😖😢

I have 3 things from 3 different times of my life. I have a dolly that is as old as I am (20) and black stuffed Scotty dog from my great gmom when I was around 6 yrs old and a golden retriever stuffed build a bear that I started sleeping with it when my dog passed freshmen year of high school if someone gives you grief they don’t understand the comfort you get from these Objects we all have something that helps us feel secure nothing to be ashamed of

My aunt gave be a blanket when I was born it is pretty big it covers my body completely and I can’t sleep without it. If we go to family or friends houses and we stay the weekend or night they already know I’m gonna have my blanket with me. I think the reason behind it is because she passed away when I was 8 from cancer she was like a mom to me no one has ever made fun of me because it is kind of a sensitive topic and the blanket is 15 years old

A mini tutorial for anyone with old nostalgic plush looking to clean their pal, Find a good seam on the back of your plush and open it enough to remove the stuffing. (This helps prevent mites and ensures they're clean!) After that take the plushies skin and mix up a warm bath with a non colored laundry detergent and massage it with your hands. (Do this until your plush runs clear) Leave it to dry and then stuff it, sew up the hole with a ladder stitch then brush your buds newly clean fur! (Replacing the stuffing is a huge step because if you dont get a deep clean on the skin of the plush you have all that gross stuff still stuck in the plush, yucky. Plus your plush looks flat after awhile)

My teddy hasn’t had the same stuffing for years I think it only had its original stuffing for 5 years. My grandma and letter my mother would re-stuff it almost yearly. Having stuffing keeps the seams safe. Mind you my mother can’t sew but she is a doctor so she did her invisible absorbable suture stitches. Really confused the lady who refurbished her.

Aw, that bear is really cute! His name is actually Grumpy Bear and he’s from a cartoon called “Care Bears.” I just know he means a lot to you. I completely understand when you say you can’t sleep without it. Ok, story time: I have a little blankie that I’ve had ever since I was a baby and a plush named Kirby for 4 years. They are my comfort items and I just can’t sleep without them. Kirby stays by my pillow and my blankie gets held in my arms. Whenever my hands were empty, I would instantly wake up and search for my comfort items in the dark until I found them, then drift right back to sleep. One night, I legitimately panicked when I couldn’t find Kirby, I was so scared. (I found him, of course.) I love my blanket and my Kirby and they are very special to me, just like your bear is special to you! Everyone has something treasured and valuable in their lives, even if it doesn’t seem important to other people. Do let other people judge you or mock you for what you have. My mom recently gave me my two Care Bears from when I was a kid (I’m 40!) and the tags for both had care instruction for putting them in the washing machine. 😂 They looked brand new after a trip through the washer. Both of them have the same kind of wear in them from so many cuddles - colour on nose, eyes, and heart on the back a little rubbed off. My kid received a new one from her grandfather and it’s surface wash only. 🙄

Hevk, my childhood bear came to me around the 4 of October, 1965. She has *N E V E R* been cleaned (teddies weren’t cleanable back then, yours most likely would have survived a trip in the washer on wool setting though). I wasn’t ever allowed to take it out of the house though and even if it is 54 years old, it doesn’t look dirty at all... ☺️

i recently cleaned my giratina pokedoll, i don't remember exactly when i got him, i'd say 10 years ago or more, i'm 19 now, i used to bring him to school with me, but i still kept him on my bed uncleaned.. as you could imagine the white rag i used had a bit of dirt on it too lmao. but it's nice to know he's clean now. :> ah, for the rest of the stains, i would recommend trying baking soda! you can put a coat of it on him, let it sit for a while, then wipe it off with a damp rag. also you could try scrubbing a little with some mild detergent if there are sticky spots. oxiclean may also be worth a shot for really stubborn stains. and for the fur texture, a larger brush, like a dog brush or something, might be faster to fluff the fur than a comb. :3

I wash my small to medium size stuff animals in a bucket of soapy water. To rinse them, I fill the bucket with cold water and put them in it. I squeeze the rinse water out of them and roll them in a towel to dry them. I put the larger stuff animals in a wash machine with my clothes and wash them in cool water. I do not put them in a dryer. I put them on my bed and let them air dry. I sleep with my stuff animals so I want them to be clean. I wash them every 3-4 weeks.

I have a twenty year old little white bear. My mum gave it to me, she got given the bear from one of her students (it was like some collectable handmade thing) My bear Alexia is super squished, her whole body is flat from me lying on her. Literally I have a teddy bear that I’ve had all my life and when I was little it was bigger then me and I didn’t really like the teddy bear but then I was in the mall and I dropped it there and I was crying because I lost it but my mom helped me find it and that’s when I started liking her and I treated her like my baby and I also couldn’t sleep with out her or else I’d get nightmares and to this day I still have her and sleep with her every night and I love her and I will always take good care of her. I have multiple stuffed animals that I've slept with though out the years. But the one that I've slept with the longest has to be my Jordyn/Jordi Bear. I had him since May 2015. My best friend give him to me when he came back from Military school for a weekend. Jordyn is my very first and only Build A Bear. I take him with me when I go out of town/state. I can't help it. Nobody knows his back story but my best friends, my dad and y'all. 😂 The last trip I took him on. I left him alone for about 15 hours in my sister's new house with my youngest niece and their filthy little dog that they barely take care of. I should had washed him months ago!! He's been in a laundry bag on the other side of my bed. But I'm so scared of replacing his clothes and getting yelled at by my dad (my dad can see my bank account and BAB clothes can be expensive) that I just couldn't do it. But after watching this video I feel like I have to build up the courage and just do it. I thought about replacing him but they don't make him the same way anymore. The ears are different and I can't get over that. 😂 (He's the basic hug bear one but the one from 2015 has complete furry ears. The new one has a patch on the front of the ears that's not furry.) It's so so long that at this rate I feel like I HAVE TO put him in the washer. I did my research. I plan on using the hand wash setting and some castile soap. I hope he turns out ok. I'll probably be pacing in the kitchen like mad. I'm so glad that you did this video. I wish more people saw it and I hope that more people see it. I totally understand the tragic childhood thing because me the best friend that gave me Jordi we both of been through very similar situations. So Jordi is extra special to me and worth the $30-$50 that I'm going to spend on his clothes. I wanted to return to favor to my best friend for YEARS but BAB hasn't come out with a good cat one yet. I hope they do soon because I know he needs it now more than ever. Thank you for this video honestly. Hopefully there will be some kind of service where we can treat the bears to a spa day or something.

Okay you can get the inside wet and you should at this point for sure! Fill a sink with hot water and a gentle laundry detergent (im a big fan of method, beach saga smells amazing), and some oxy clean. Let it soak for a few hours, drain the water and repeat until the water is clear then rinse several times, gently squeeze the water through until there's no soap for several minutes and a good (gentle) squeeze. You can put it in the dryer on air dry for 30 minutes, then remove for 30, back in on air dry for another 30 repeat until fully dry 😊

I have a koala. I'm 59 and I've had him since 1987 when I rescued him from a garbage can. He was in the washing machine twice but his internal foam is so old I don't think he would hold up to that much trauma anymore.

There are multiple comments here describing how to clean your fuzzy buddy. Pull out the stuffing, wash in the sink with colorless detergent, air dry, restuff, sew him back up and brush him out and he should be good as new.

I’ve been wanting to wash mine by mine is extremely beat up. (It was a tiger with a tongue and white sort of hairs on side and long tail) The eyes are now just white and damaged, no more tail (been rubbed off) The orange colour is now a green ish yellow and well ... lots of places are almost bald. Had him since I was about 3-4 years old and I’m 29 now. Need to somehow wash it but I’m terrified 😂 may need to try this.

At least your bear isn’t named Stinky. My bear as a toddler was smelly from me drooling on her. So my parents would say “go find the stinky bear” when they were trying to calm me down. It stuck and I started calling her Stinky. As a child I would leave her some where in the house on accident (grew up in pretty big house after the age of 7) and omg the hours leading up to bed time was screaming and crying and running in circles trying to find her.

Soaking it in a full sink of warm water with oxi powder, baby detergent, and a tide pod. let soak for 3 hours, agitating it throughout the duration of the soak. won't damage it or ruin the stuffing. :)

Charlie Cordara having kids is such a huge responsibility and each person is going to handle it differently! I became a mom at 20 years old and looking back, I definitely wasn’t ready. I matured really quickly and did everything I could to be a good mom, but there was a lot I would’ve done differently now that I’m older and know better. You shouldn’t feel pressured to have kids by a certain age though. It will happen when it’s meant to happen!

My Mom bought me an Elmo doll from a yard sale when I was a baby, and he's been my favorite stuffed animal for as long as I can remember. I never outgrew Elmo, and I still sleep with him to this day. He's worn, but I love him, and I could never bring myself to throw him away. I'm afraid to wash him cause I don't want him getting tainted with chemicals. I'm afraid to comb him cause I don't want him to lose his fur. I do use a lint roller on him every once in a while though just to un-mat his fur as much as I can while also getting some particles out of him. That helps. I've thought of sending Elmo to a doll hospital so he can get a makeover, but as of now, that will be more of a last resort option if something happens to him and I can't salvage him on my own. I love my Elmo though ^_^

No shame in sleeping with a stuffed animal/comfort item ^-^ Sometimes putting them in the washing machine on gentle and using fabric softener can work wonders on it; that's what I use on my stuffed Pegasus toy that I've had for 20 years, and it makes him look brand new But some old toys are more prone to being damaged in the wash so you did good by not taking that chance

you should try an oxi clean stain stick on your bear! it is a gel with little “nipples” (best way to describe it lol) that help scrub out the dirt! then just take a damp cloth and wipe off the excess gel. i loved watching this, it was so fun!

I have 3 things my baby blanket my grandmother gave me and she made it so I love it and keep it because I reamer her by it 2nd I have my pound puppy sam my mom also has one named sam and lastly I have my flamingo named stiff legs I got him for Christmas 2007 so I was 8 years old and I loved that thing though thick and thin and I keep them on my pillow psychological my husband dose not mind.

Ive had my beanie buddy prayer bear since I was 4 and I'm 23 now. There has not been a single night that I've slept without him. It's nasty but he hasn't been washed in almost 20 yrs and I don't plan on washing him anytime soon lol. I dunno I kind of like him crusty and loved on HAHA

I have an American fair dog Henry from 1971 that really needs to be cleaned but I'm afraid to even use a toothbrush on him. He is very special to me im married with one kid and 47. He went into heart surgery with me when I was about 4yrs old.

I have a stuffed elephant that I've had since I was 5 I am now 36!! I don't know when the last time she was washed I've done the stuffed animal washing machine dryer precautions but I'm mortified to think of her essentially dying in the washing machine I'll try this but she has a large pink bow (still) and I want it cleaner we'll have to see I do not want her ruined

I still have all my stuffed toys since I was a baby. But my mom wants to get rid of them saying that I'm too old to play with them. What I did is I cleaned them and I put them in one tightly closed container. I also have large teddies and they're also clean. I cleaned them so I won't worry that they have stains that will not come off in the future. Last December I bought a really cute stuffed toy which is Panpan from We Bare Bears. And I always sleep with him.

With all the false alarms for the fire at my college dorms I’m considering putting my bear in my fire proof safe I brought with me. Be a bit of a tight squeeze but at least I know she is safe.
