Cleaning of Stainless Fireplace Chimney - Vermont Castings Stove

A quick, top down cleaning of a fireplace chimney. Make sure if you have a second combustion chamber that the baffle in your stove is removed so the waste coming down the chimney has somewhere to go. It helps if your house is built into the side of a hill and you can step onto the roof. Helps the dog get up there too.

Chimneys only look like this when home owner is burning wet or green wood. Burning seasoned dry wood you will have a soft soot which you can blow off with your mouth Burning wet and green wood you get glaze and creosote deposits like potatoe chips. Highly recommend only Burning dry snd seasoned wood and running the stove HOT atleast once every 24 hrs for a small amount of time.

I have found that using super dry wood keeps you from doing the chimney sweeping.

Dry wood sure helps. The top of the chimney is some distance from the stove. When it's -30f like it was here the other day, that doesn't seem to help things.

you should clean the total top !wire clean the cap and check for cracks on the cap !one pass will not clean your pipe !

You should never use a wire brush on a stainless steel liner you will lose any warranty on it

The brush shown is some sort of rugged composite. Metal on metal probably not the best.
