I arrived here via a post on the Golden Age Detection facebook page and thoroughly enjoyed the video. I have never seen any of these here in Canada. I doubt many ever made their way here and even less would have survived. I'm not sure how much interest you have in the authors, as opposed to the books but there is a great deal of information such as pseudonyms and bibliographies at either the Golden Age Wiki or Classic Crime websites. There has been a considerable increase in interest in some of these authors lately, probably as a result of the British Library Crime Classics series that has reintroduced a number of almost forgotten writers to a new readership. You mentioned with surprise a price of six pounds for the Leo Grex book but I don't know if you are aware that is a pseudonym of Leonard Gribble, one of those authors, and if you price that item on ABE Books, that is an excellent price. If you have a copy of The Case of the Red Haired Girl, by Anthony Wynne, number 24 in the series you will be astounded by the price for it.

Fantastic information Ron, much appreciated. Looks like I need to research some of these authors a bit more🙂 what series did make their way to Canada?

@@JulesBurt Green Penguins certainly, although they are becoming harder to find. Collins White Circle are sometimes found but usually those are ones actually printed in Canada. Pan books are also reasonably common.

Right, I have a couple of Canadian White Circle books. I'm not surprised that the Pans turn up, they seem to have got everywhere 🙂

Jules, great to see these old classics. I especially like the Crime Society Series, they are scarce, probably rare in dust jacket. I have one of the best in the seriesMurder From The East by Daly, a Race Williams hard Crime pulp classic. These books are hard to find, you made a real score getting so many at once, cheers!

Thanks Gary, yes, these were amongst that huge Pan collection I got last year, almost as an afterthought. They are very nice indeed and indeed very scarce in wrappers.

The red book at 4:47 has severe spine roll. How do u tackle spine roll?
@JulesBurt4 жыл бұрын
It's quite hard with vintage paperbacks but it can be solved by reverse creasing the book, from the back to the front.

My favourite is Day of the Triffids🙂

I miss the days of paperback nonfiction. If you were interested in history, biography, even science, you could get a reasonably priced paperback to carry along to fill those odd minutes. Do you know about the "little blue books"? They were published in the U.S. in the 20s and 30s.

I think I have seen some of those on Gary Lovisi's channel🙂
