Great advice! Having an am and pm routine is crucial, plus one or two main chores a day keeps on top of everything without being overwhelming. Whole cleaning/laundry days never worked for me either . . there's too many opportunities to get bored and lose focus, plus with young children it's just not practical. I follow a very similar routine to you . . am and pm routine everyday, plus about 30-40 mins of a specific chore most days. Love that, 'cos it means I just have to focus on dusting/ or the kitchen/ or the bathrooms/ or vacuuming/ or mopping etc on a particular day and nothing else. I also include a couple of extra slots for random chores that don't need doing so often. All told, my system means that everything's covered over about a 2 week cycle. I pre-sort my laundry and do a load most days, plus change one bed at a time and include that as the daily load, so laundry never gets overwhelming either. It's a battle, but without a system, the home would be chaos sooo quickly! Tfs. Oh, forgot to say, it took a while for me to figure out that occasional Saturday morning housework (my routine as a single girl) was not going to cut it with a family and much larger home, lol! Got there in the end, but can remember feeling totally overwhelmed initially, not knowing where to start, and had to figure it out on my own as had never heard of cleaning gurus etc, and my friends seemed to be almost as hopeless as me! I did cheat a bit and have a cleaning lady for a year or so, but eventually devised my own manageable system, which has worked for me for years now.

I love your routines. I, too, have routines posted in my kitchen. I, also, have a binder of what needs to get done when and a detailed to do list. I have a bad short term memory, along with anxiety and 5 kiddos I homeschool, so I need to have a check list to get things done. If not Ill clean out the fridge 10 times in a day and then wonder why we don't have church clothing on Sunday.

Nice video :) I'd add to the lesson that for anyone struggling with order and implementing a routine, the most important part of learning how to live with routines and make them work for you is to stick to them. At first, it may seem like a lot of work, but by doing things in a consistent, regular cycle, you eventually get to a point where the tasks are relatively light work and eventually, life is a bit easier, which is ultimately the aim. By regularly attending to tasks, things never really get the chance to pile up or get to a point where what was once a small daily or weekly task on paper now looks like a big, seemingly overwhelming task, one that for a lot of people, is demotivating. Another approach to getting started with a routine is to start with a clean slate, e.g. if you want to start a daily and weekly cleaning routine, do a deep clean first and then work on the daily tasks, so at that point you're really just maintaining, not attempting to deep clean in little bursts. Each person has to work out the best way for them, but generally, if you're asking for help, then tips are needed, so hope these tips help :)

Hi Kimmy! Thank you for your great video on routines! Like you, I am a list maker & I 💗 the Flylady! I have her book and read it cover to cover years ago. Your checklists look good, and it's a good reminder for me to make a night time list. I keep a daytime one in my daily notebook! Have a great day hugs, Joanie 😃💟

I'm going to try adapting my own from this. I had never known about the morning & night routine from fly lady until I found your channel months ago. I'm going slow but I'm loving that concept! I have a 1 year old (also i battle anxiety) so I have to be a little more flexible in setting something up to work for me right in this season of motherhood. I can't be as rigid which has thrown my perfectionist brain for a loop lol thanks for sharing!!

I was just wondering what your cleaning schedule weekly was like. I've been working since December at a fast food place, and am coming home now to focus on raising my children, and homeschooling. Naturally, we need a clean home, food, and things organized. lol So I'm on a semi-new journey, and I'm excited!

This was great. I am going to put my tasks on paper because, like you, I get overwhelmed at all there is to do and then get anxious and shut down, so nothing gets done. I am a visual, check off the list, type person, so this will help me tons.

Great video. I have been a Fly Lady fan forever. I have needed to do a routine; but, keep delaying trying to get it together because everything is such a disaster. I have always thought I needed to have everything squared away before I started a routine; but, now I think that I should try starting a small routine daily and just work on the mess during Zone cleaning & gradually everything WILL get done. Thanks for the inspiration.

I was interested to hear you say that the lists and checking them off help allay your anxiety. I thought you had said previously that the doctor thought all of your checklists were causing some of it. I'm sure there is some happy medium, wonder what that is or if indeed you've found that balance. Heading to your crock pot playlist - we're trying Moab Tacos tonight!

The routine list is fine it was when I would make to do lists for other things in my day. I did this a lot. I would vary lists in my purse and have it on my counter or fudge. Those lists I would determine my value. I have stopped that.

+She's In Her Apron Love this video. Good for you for overcoming the dreaded "TO DO" list of shame. i have OCD and i used to constantly overplan and pack my days with "If I am good enough I will get this ALL done". It was a meltdown waiting to happen - and it happened! I've stopped making strict lists and simply do things as I see them (or follow a loose daily plan for things I would LIKE to do). I have good days and not so good days, but that's life! Most of the time I can cut myself slack if I haven't done everything I wanted to. As long as I go to bed with clean floors, bathrooms, and kitchen (and kids lunches packed), I can usually avoid tossing and turning. Thanks for sharing this routine and best of luck going forward. Love your channel!
