I use Evaporust. But not usually in my ultrasonic cleaner, because it's not big enough. But it still works very well and the remaining cleanup is much quicker. I often have to leave things overnight, but that's still better than the alternative of doing it all by hand.

I used to suffer terrible with condensation and rust in the winter to the point I'd see water over everything metal, the lathe, Miller and all the tooling & stock and nearly brought a dehumidifier then I thought what do they do, suck water into a tub you have to empty, so I just fixed a bathroom exterior fan in an external door and just leave it running all the time, that was about 7 years ago and now everything still stays shiny I don't have to cover anything in oil no matter how wet and humid it gets outside... I feel a need to put on safety glasses just watching the video! Thanks for stressing the point about wire wheels.

Really good video 👍 Maintenance takes time…. But ‘shiny steel’ is its own reward. I’ve used salt/vinegar solution on steel with good results, but it takes a couple of days to work. Regards Robert

My favourite rust removal technique has always been 3 in 1 oil and very fine wire wool, you can use WD40 but I don't like it as a rust preventer, oil is better. I have also found ACF50 is an excellent rust preventative but it's not cheap.

3 in 1 oil is great stuff.

Great video and perseverance! for long term protection post rust removal, may I suggest ACF 50 or Boeshield. WD40 is more of a solvent rather than a lubricant. Cheers!

Axminster tools makes Machine Wax, I have been using it on vintage saws, planes and other tools that I cleaned and polished and so far it is great and I would recommend it. Also there is another product called ACF-50 similar to wd-40, it is quite pricey but it is very popular among bikers storing their bikes for winter. I tried making my own maintenance/penetrating oil mixtures; formula I used is %40 White Spirit+ %40 Naphtha %20 Light Oil and it works OK but do it your own risk, I've tried two different formulas first I used the %20 oil as pure mineral oil and secondly I used a %20 quality synthetic two stroke oil in the mixtures. For general DIY, light duty jobs they been good.

My shop is currently unheated, and isn’t even fully sealed from the outside. I spray all bare metal surfaces with WD-40, which I buy by the gallon, and cover them loosely with fabric drop cloths so air can still move around the equipment. This seems to work well even when going from winter to spring when condensation most prevalent.

Good news with the ultrasonic cleaner. What frequency did you use? 40k? And what solution? I learned a lot from your video. You have a new subscriber. Thanks, Paul

The Allendale oxidation removal ultrasonic solution works a world of wonders however it seems to be highly corrosive and I don’t recommend using it on all metal types. The carburetor ultrasonic solution works great for aluminum and so does the product Simple Green, the heavy duty formula which is purple in color. Great video as always and thanks for the tips

Yes, it destroys Aluminium Alloys too ...... "Carbusonic" is much better for general cleaning.

What was the name of the magic elixer you used in the ultrasonic gizmo to remove the rust? I restore alot of 1950’s cast iron small engines & anything to make rust removal easier would be deluxe.

It is called "Allendale Oxidation Remover" It is quite corrosive though. "Evaporust" is better and you don't need an Ultrasonic Cleaner for that .....

After about the 3rd time everything in the shop has rusted almost overnight you begin to see advantages of insulation, heat, and air conditioning.

I put as much insulation in my shop that I could. It is very cheap compared to electricity. I run a 10,000 btu air conditioner in the summer. When it is 90°f outside,it is 70°f inside and the humidity is 30%.I run a dehumidifier in the winter. I use the water to mop the concrete floor. Also have a 10mil vapor barrier under the concrete floor.
