I usually use 90% rubbing alcohol to remove adhesives. And if needed, use the buffing wheel dry to bring back the high gloss by heating the surface slightly via friction. This is about the only way to modify the soft plastic surface for high gloss.

I've been hesitant to use acetone as it can be quite strong but you have proven it to be quite effective. Great news! I usually use Kerosene for cleaning most area's on my bike. Works well! A tip for getting the dull, white haze out of plastics especially on black one's is to use a product from Autosol called Acrylic Polish. It's mostly used to get scratches out of headlights but works great on any plastics affected by white hazing. Give it a try!

And I thought Goo Gone was #1. Great testing job. My plastics will be saved.

Wouldn't using a heat gun while removing stickers, keep more of the glue on the sticker instead of the plastic? That's been my findings anyway. I've never removed stickers without heating them as I pull.

For me, the heat gun has been hit or miss. It seems to work better if the graphics are newer.

I would try MAXIMA SC1 High Gloss Coating or even Mother's Protectant to restore shine.

Would alcohol work or is that pretty much acetone? I know it works great to remove tree sap off your car!

If I use Goo Gone and it leaves it faded if I paint over it would still show through?

DO NOT USE ACETONE. I damaged my Honda 125r fairings badly from using acetone. Minor scratches in the plastic allow exposure to acetone to boil up and look like a bunch of cracks in the plastic. It basically dissolved the plastics :(

Acetone eats plastic! Don’t let it get in cracks or scratches

Gotta be nuts to use acetone or paint thinner. Great way to discolor/damage abs plastics in.my opinion. Use blow dryer, NOT heat gun to pull decals off. Been there, used many products.

I could be wrong but don’t you have to buff the plastic first then polish it after to get the gloss
@zacharydewitte3846 ай бұрын
a plastic fender is most likely molded so there would be no surface finish, i dont think theres a way to really bring that back unless its remade. you can polish but your essentially making microscratches and trying to blend them. Since there is no scratches to begin with and you will always see them new will always look shiny and buffed will be dull. No clear coat or paint to work with like on auto paint ps. why did it have to be the new 2017 plastics hurt a bit to watch u ruin $300 and as a car detailer ill be trying what we use at work might be a good idea to sell it to mx folks if its better than axetone cuz i use that at work as well

Is simple green safe on everything on a dirt bike?
@gohobby99342 жыл бұрын
Since I don't know what every part on your bike is made of, I can't answer this question with certainty. However, I've used it on many parts with no problems. I wouldn't use it to clean plastics right before putting new graphics on though because it seems to leave an oily film that may make the graphics difficult to stick.
