Would love to see this classic brought back to life as a full or near full restoration. It's just too rare to be chopped or channeled. There is plenty of other junk that is more common to do that with. Save this one complete! Yes, it would take time, and money, but how many of these remain that can be brought back to life? Might even be a part time project to do a small amount at a time but just think of what the finished car would be.

Great video to watch and it takes me back 46 years to another era in time ,you see i was born in the City of Salford which is next door to Manchester uk .We were surrounded believe it or not by bombed out houses from world war 2 when i was still young around ten years old .As young boys we would play in the ruins of these houses and one day we found a giant old house that had collapsed into a pile after being hit buy a German bomber, the house was on a slope and the rear of the house had like a old garage door that was covered in undergrowth by the time we found it .Out of curiosity we managed to break through the door and squeeze in to the darkness only to met by something in the way which we couldnt see .Finally 3 of us managed to open the garage door to let some light in and there it was .A entire car and 6 or 7 motorbikes and pedal bikes ,tools and equipment etc left exactly as they were during the war 30 years earlier .Everything was totally covered in rust ,the staircase leading up into the house was filled with rubble so we couldnt go any further. Later that day i told my father who came to see it all ,he identified the car as a Rolls Royce and it was a former Drs house ,fascinating to see at the time and it was all still there till i about 17 when the whole plot was cleared for new housing .Often wondered what happened to that car but most likely scrapped by the demolition men .Thosedays are all long gone now and no bombed out houses are left due to redevelopments etc .

What ever you decide to do to this 1939 Mercury would be just fine. Most of the metal & glass looks good; the bottom, does not look so good; but, what ever you do, will help us learn more about fixing old cars. I fix them myself just to drive them, put them back on circulation, and not loose a whole bunch when I sell them. It is a hobby for me, and hobbies cost money (the only way I can look at it). Thank you for sharing your work & your knowledge.

I saw a car similar to that a long time ago, it had supposed to have belonged to Rita Hayworth, the actress. The car had been fully customized way back in the day, every custom trick that you can name had been done to that car, it had been chopped, channeled, sectioned, it had a padded Carson top, the lights had been frenched, it had a LaSalle grill, fender skirts, a continental kit, and push button doors, I've always wished I could get a car like that and recreate what I saw that day. The car was sitting in a man's garage, and he said he was storing it for someone else, it needed a complete rebuild because it hadn't been touched in a great many years, but it was a car similar to yours, and yes, it was very cool, it was baby blue, I would have painted it pink, with the white Carson top, it would have been bling.
@waynequinn35765 жыл бұрын
Had on of these sitting in my aunties back paddock up on blocks. Also had a old 27 Dodge converted to wooden tray back there as well, but it was in a big old home built shed, and it had the motor and box in it out of the Ford. They sat there for 40 years before I had a shed and when I hauled a trailer 100 mile to get them, the Ford was gone. Someone stole it and nobody knew when. Apart from motor, only thing missing on it was a headlight surround and very minimal use on it. Never did find that old girl

Matt, I have never seen a snow tread tire with that weird round tread profile like the one you pulled from the Merc trunk! Budget slicks idea for ya...mount a set of vintage snows 2 sizes too big like we used to do in the 60's...we didn't want to burn up our "good" tires so we scrounged old snows, pumped them up to about 40 PSI and went of to make rubber smoke!

If you treat them right, you will have a vehicle that will need just a tune up, and get going. This old merc is rough, but that engine has potential. Could be used in another project. What year was it when those Mercury’s were selling like that?

Tube on oil filler is to put the blow by under the car rather than sending it into the cab . Hardest part to find are the beer can tail lights . If interested I have a set of 40 Merc window frames . I used the 40 doors on my 39 Merc convertible , The 39 mer rear fenders are different from the 40, . They were so deep that you could not get the tire out when jacked up , Ford installed a spacer between the rear spring and the rear cross member to raise up the body .
