Cleaning the slow gear in Leica CL

Very useful information about the disassembly of the Leica Cl but I think this video shows exactly why maintenance is required. This is the same for mechanical watches and the right way to do it would be to disassemble each component, clean, dry and lubricate properly. That said, what you did will work but rest assure there is still small grime and dirt between those gears and the fresh lube will attract the dirt around it and you'll be back doing this again soon enough. Your method of using a chunk of rubber to loosen the rewind lever and shutter elements is brilliant! Just opened up my CL with the shoe sole of a pair of Vans! Saved me from having to but a set of clamp wrenches on Ebay.. Thanks!

Thank you for the tutorial! Opened up my CL to clean out viewfinder haze. Couple of notes--1. I used a medium sized rubber band across the pressure plate to protect the shutter; 2. There's a tiny metal spacer (maybe 2mm tall, easily lost!) for the single screw hidden under the advance lever which sits under the top cover (it's stuck to the cover at 9:22 of the video; mine was loose and sitting on body but fortunately didn't lose it). Now to fix the meter.

Brilliant information. Would you mind share some tips, how to remove the meter arm? Do I have to remove the lens mount unit? Or it can be removed from internal. Don't mind cut the arm as Don't need it. Just remove to allow using 21mm f4

Great video. Thanks for making it. I fixed the slow speeds on my CL. One problem: when opening up the top of the camera a tiny silver colored cylinder fell out. It wasn't mentioned in the video. Do you have any idea where it goes??

did you ever found out? i think i know where it belongs. it belongs right under the only screw that is on the top plate. its the distance zylinder for the screw. nothing really important i guess.

Is there a light seal under or behind the small rangefinder patch next to the 'cl' marking on the front of the camera? I think I've identified that there is light leaking through the rangefinder patch and causing a consistent light leak in the camera

Thanks for this video! Question: Do you know what causes a sound like small pebbles rolling around on the film advance and shutter speed dial side of the camera? Would these be ball bearings moving a bit in the shutter dial?? My Minolta CL works fine but I've wondered where this sound comes from. Thanks.

Great information that is easy to follow. Can anybody tell me how to get the hotshoe off the top plate? I have replaced my damaged top plate but the serial number is engraved on the old hotshoe. I need to swap the hotshoe. There is a hex nut which is easy to unscrew but there also seems to be three rivets holding the hotshoe to the top plates.

Thanks for the great quality video! I am having mechanical trouble with by leica R3 bodies. Is there a reason why you didn't put a manual to disassamble any leica r body online so far? Is there anything special about to know? How can I loosen corroded miniature screws in the housing? WD40, or does heating uo with a soldering tool help? I would highly appreciate your input! Thanks

If possible can you make a video on how to adjust the rangefinder on the CL. Mine seems to be out of focus, and the rangefinder patch is basically not visible.

Hi. For the horizontal alignment you need to pull off the little round cap on the top of the cover and turn the screw that you find under that. With the camera loaded on a tripod and the lens on infinity look inside the rangefinder and turn the screw until the right images position. Enjoy👌🏻

It was a collaboration camera between Leica and Minolta. The camera was made in Japan and was meant to be an entry level into the Leica system. They eventually discontinued the camera after 3 years because it was selling more than the M cameras.
