My neighbor gave me his old HP Pavilion due to slowdowns and having "too may pop-ups" caused by viruses, malware and other atrocious things. Apart from an obligatory clean install (upgrade from Win Vista to 8.1), I took the opportunity to clean out his entire PC and tidy up the cable management. This was an impromptu video with no pre-production involved so hope you guys don't mind the raw format!

nucleard3 All things considered though. his electric company may not agree lol. I think even used system upgrade was maybe more favorable. Lower power needs = smaller electric bill. That old ass AMD chip has got to be spiking the hell out of his energy costs.. Awesomesauce Network With that, he seems to know how to take care of his things so, I don't think a reasonable upgrade is out of the question but, yeah, it warms my heart to see my generation helping out their neighbors.

***** It was a 65 watt chip in 2005/6? when it dropped. I can assure you that thing is sucking out more than the specs tell you. The kind of power regulation that exists today did not exist in 2005/6. With that, in all of these years, that system just ain't what it use to be despite it's lack of heavy usage.

I wish I never threw out my first PC build from 1998... I remember how much I loved that thing. I worked my ass off for several months, just to pay for it. Running Windows 98 and exploring everything, right down to Paint and Wordpad.. Then eventually playing my very first PC games, Creatures 2 a trial version of Monster Truck Madness and at some point, the very first Half Life game, which forced me to go out and buy my first AGP video card just to run it. .....And then... the internet. It's crazy how fast time goes by.... I was around 20 years old at that time. Man those days were awesome. My very first computer, back when computers were normally only obtained by brainy people, looking to further expand their horizon with higher learning... Aka, the time before social media took over as the prime purpose, for owning a pc. Or so it seemed that way. It's good to see there are so many folks out there doing things like this and sharing the wealth of knowledge with so many strangers, for the greater good.

I started even younger, I was about 12 when I got my dad's old collage computer. It was a old 486 dx2. He pushed that little machine hard, ran windows 3.1 ultimately and then he upgraded to a pentium. When I got that mom decided to put the collage computer on our back porch and well that was the end of that. Pretty sure small rodents and other bugs got in and did their thing inside with the wiring and IDE cables. Built my first PC when I was about 14. Dad thought one of his old machines was dead, I took it and fixed it and used it for many more years. That's when I really started to learn how computers ticked. But I couldn't buy my own parts until I was most of the way through high school since my family didn't have much money. Dad won his disability case and I don't remember the reason why I was to get 4k but I did and I ended up spending a majority of that money on a totally new PC that I built myself. Windows 2000 and it was a high speed Celeron D cpu. I don't remember how much ram it had though; at that time I was totally into Counter-Strike: Condition Zero...man I feel old....

Brandon Connell So from your explanation it is: zoophilia is a psychiatric disorder in which an adult or older adolescent experiences a primary or exclusive sexual attraction to prepubescent zoo's, generally age 11 years or younger. You know, there's a term for an animal fetish, it's called beastiality. Not sure if that's what the OP was referring to by "zoo"
@darkblack1OnWeed
@darkblack1OnWeed 9 жыл бұрын
Ro-Tang Clan I think beastiality is the actual act of sexual intercourse with an animal. "philia" is greek for "love" if I remember right and just describes a sexual attraction towards something. In combination with pedo, it refers to a sexual attraction towards children. So with zoo (greek for "animal") it would be a sexual attraction towards animals. So zoophilia should be a perfectly fine term to use.

Upon reboot that cache file is deleted so everything reverts back to the original state. Really awesome for people who just like to click all those popup add links. All you have to do to make sure foto's and stuff aren't wiped is splitting the drive in two partitions and move the Documents folder to the second one. Did that on my dads PC after the firsttime I had to devirus it(he had only been using it for 3 months or so) after installing that he used that system for 3 years without any virus problems :)

On a trip to the dump to get rid of an old CRT TV, I was directed to a container designated for that purpose. Along with the old TV's were dozens of orphaned computers. When the guy wasn't looking, I loaded 4 of them into my car and later went back for more. All of them, without exception, were there for clogged or corrupted operating systems. I am not especially computer savvy but I was able to load up a free Linux OS and any school kid should love one of these for a start-up. Wait for a dry period without rain for the best yield.

+Jess Vagnar You must be crafty because they will always say no.. I do it when I am discarding a CRT TV.. They charge me $10 for the privilege and when they are not looking, I load a few computers in the back. They go to Asia and they receive a bulk rate for them but they could just as easily let people like us have the pick for $10 or $20 each before they ship it off.. .

Larkinchance Hot dang that's expensive! All of mine are free, my state has an electronics bill that prevents enclosed electronics from being thrown into the landfills so they offer free removal at the facility. Unfortunately where I am now uses a huge facility, so the physical gap is too large to stealthily grab a few components! Good for you though!

When I do these for people, I switch it to Lubuntu if they are cool with it because it frees up so much of that used cpu and ram for the actual programs. You'd be amazed at what $100-$140 bucks can do for an old computer when you do these clean ups. Add that extra bit of ram and a small SSD or a very cheap GPU if the system is way old. ( Silent 6450 Radeon last one I pepped up, under $40 ). 120MB SSD under $40 now. Max the old DDR2 or DDR3 for a few bucks. $15-$30. (Can go a little higher if you got DDR3 going for 16MB on a not so old comp) Cheap $30 GPU if it didn't already have one. It's over kill for Lubuntu and it's easy for people to use it since it's like a much better version of windows xp. Great for old computers that the kids will use for homework, KZbin in HD, emulators, kid games on steam. Windows 8 is a mistake to me for this old of computer. ( Windows 7 ok if you must have windows. ) Hope this helps a few people with some ideas on cheap upgrade/fix of old garage comps.

I refuse to do things like this, something always goes wrong down the line and they look at me like its my fault. I was given a machine that would only turn on half the time, i got it running again (not well, needed parts replacing) they werent willing to spend money on it, and when it busted fully and wouldnt turn on at all, they started talking to people how i broke their machine.

Chris Roberts I couldn't agree more. Being into PCs, and all electronics in general, I always have friends wanting me to take a look at their stuff. I usually always turn them down for this exact reason. They hand you a pile of shit and you get it working again, and down the road, when it craps, they blame you. And it's like, dude, it was a pile of shit when you gave it to me, how can you possibly think that I am responsible for it dying...

TooBokoo about 3 months ago a neighbor asked me to fix his computer. I checked it out and when I saw it the computer wasn't really worth the fix. 1 stick of RAM didn't work and I think it was an old Celeron. I told him about it and I told him that for $150, I wasn't going to charge him for labor before I forget to mention, I could rebuild it and make it into a better PC than it was before. I used the old case, optical drive and HDD but I gave him an old Corsair PSU. The only things that I bought was a AMD A10-7700K, a Gigabyte A68H and 8GB of RAM & once I put it together I gave it back to him and the next day he told me about how much better it was compared to how it was before. I was upfront with him and I guess he liked the honesty compared to how Geek Squad would charge him more than that just to look at it.

@lDarkfoxxl
@lDarkfoxxl 9 жыл бұрын
ExiliousX You're not lying, when I first started building PC's it stopped working and went super slow after 2 weeks so my first thought was that it was the motherboard the way it acted. I had no test equipment to check anything so I called up geeksquad because it was my first build and I figured they would know way more than me. I told them what was happening and what my opinion was (that I thought it was the wiring on the motherboard), at that point it wouldn't even boot up anymore, just stay black. they said it would be 200$ just to look at it. I called a computer specialty place 1 block away from bestbuy and asked if I could bring in my pc for him to go over it and he said yea but didn't know the price. I went there and he went over the wiring taking 2 hours for all the checks and determined (after connecting the HDD up to his diagnostic equipment) that it was a bad hard drive. Charged me 25$ so I gave him 50$ as a tip for him not trying to screw me over with price. I didn't think it was the hard drive because I had bought the hard drive 1 week before and it was brand new so I ruled it out early. Now I repair peoples PC/laptops free unless it's a repeat person, the ones that constantly let their kids get on the computer and let them download things like limewire (yes I still see pc's with that installed) or other things I have told them not to do like clicking yes without reading when installing programs. At that point I usually charge 20 bucks. Its fun for me to repair peoples PC because when they get them back it's like it came from the factory again (minus bloatware of course).

From the factory it has a AMD quad core processor and 8 GB of RAM. Right after I bought it I put in a 750 watt PSU, a Raedon HD graphics card, and put in a bigger case fan. The thing was a beast for it's time and I will continue to use it.

FIRST - replace the CMOS battery; it's undoubtedly dead by now. Next, that motherboard supports SATA (three available ports just above the IDE connector on the motherboard and the existing hard drive is SATA). Get an SSD and install the OS on that. Replace the existing 320 GB hard drive with something larger. Install either a GTX 750 Ti or a GT 1030 (whichever is cheaper). Add a USB 3.0 card in that PCI-E x1 slot. Replace the power supply before it destroys the whole thing. Max out the RAM (8 GB DDR2 according to HP specs). If you're feeling squirrelly, swap out the DVD-RW with something less primitive (and a SATA cable, too). Keep in mind, Kyle did what he did while spending NO MONEY, and that's a pretty good bargain.

Huntace sure,.but who know if there is any board that will support that kind of ram xD ... and eight gigs are way to mouch for a pentium D rig... if can remember, a pentium d supports up to 800mhz ram .. dunno how much ... and i guess no ddr3 anyways

+Lapine Block SSDs make a major difference. I now have SSDs in all three computers that I use on a regular basis. In fact, one of those computers is going on 11 years old, and the SSD really helped its temperatures, removed the noise of an HDD, and is keeping it snappier.

Thanks for the vid. I'm typing these comments on almost the twin of the HP Pavilion Elite of the same age that I am still using (in 2017) as my daily driver. It's running Intel Quad Core CPUs instead of AMD but otherwise same original specs. Course now mine has been upgraded with a 240GB SSD, 8GB of RAM and my son's old Nvidia gaming GPU. Instead of Vista, I run Debian 9 Stretch with the Gnome DE. I use it for basic home entertainment (Plex server, Clementine music library and Calibre eBook library. I guess the moral of the story is that these 8- or 10-year-old desktop systems age much better than laptops of that era, because you can more easily upgrade individual parts...

I find this video to be quite stupid, and a time waster in my opinion. This is what I do when I help my friends / family clean / greatly increase the speed of their computers: 1) Tell them to buy a large USB or external drive, and to put all of their documents, pictures, and anything else important onto it. 2) Warn them that everything will be deleted 3) Do a fresh FACTORY RESET on the PC, and when installing windows BE SURE TO REFORMAT THE HARD DRIVE (if xp or vista, install Windows 7 or 10) 4) Install GPU (Graphics) drivers, and network drivers (if needed), and all other important drivers (typically you don't need much more) 5) If the PC came with Windows 7 or 8, you should think about upgrading to 10 as it DOES speed up the PC quite a bit (7 not so much) 6) Turn off Windows Security, UAC, Defender, Cortana, etc. (they are mainly just there to annoy you) 7) Uninstall all-pre-installed apps like Nortan, HP, and all the other shit (google it if you don't know what it is) 8) Install Google Chrome AND ad-blocker and set it as the default explorer (tell the user to NEVER USE INTERNET EXPLORER) 9) Install CCleaner, and tell the user to run it once every 2 weeks, and to also run the registry cleaner 10) WELL DONE, be sure to collect $200 once you past Go. Seriously though, if you follow these steps your parents, your grandparents, and your great grandparents will start using their PCs more, and be VERY HAPPY and think you are some sort of genius. Most people in the world are bogged down by ads, malware, viruses, and programs that constantly interfere with what's most important.....(porn) Side Note: You may wonder "what about anti-virus?!?!?!?" well in reality most people don't need to worry about viruses UNLESS they are using Internet Explorer, Downloading Unpopular Torrents, or going to shady sites to install weird programs (like hacks for games). Most people just browse the internet, check emails, and watch videos, you don't need anti-virus for that.

Now you can't use CCleaner anymore, hackers have succeeded to put a malware in the installation exe, possibly making your computer a zombie for their attacks, though the main goal was to infect company pcs to steal data. It may never bother you, but having that on your PC is not a thing i like. All CCleaner installed since mid-july or so have this malware (i don't remember the version number).

9:56 You're going to put DDR3 in a DDR2 motherboard? WTF? Look, I just found some 120GB SSDs new on eBay for $20-25. I also got 8GB of DDR2 for $29.00 not long ago. Max out the RAM, put one of those new SSDs in there, load it with Windows 10, and he'd be really happy.

This video was from 2015 when SSDs were probably still quite expensive, and I doubt that the neighbour would want to have his pc missing for longer than it needs to & I highly doubt that the computer would even be able to handle Windows 10.
