I got an insane deal where I live. Found a i5 3450 powerspec PC with 8gb of ram and a 2tb hard drive for 40 bucks. I had to replace the cooler since the system had like a pound of dust in it and it had destroyed the bearings on the old cooler. Some newer Intel CPU holders/sockets (that's where the CPU rest on the MB) on the motherboard do not have a readily visible alignment mark. There are notches on each side of the Intel CPU and if you look carefully you will see the corresponding protrusions on the Intel CPU holder/socket. Align the Intel CPU notches with the socket. For RAM - if you are adding to what you already have, try to get the same latency. It will look something like this for example: 16-16-16-39. It may be important in some instances. Just today I had an incompatibility issue with some RAM and once I removed the add-on RAM my system again worked fine. _Most RAM will work in unison with other RAM,_ but sometimes it will not. For you newbies, I hope this helps? Praise The Lord and Godspeed to you all - Hebrews 10:35!!

Ram of differing latency will always train to the lower spec or the higher latency/lower speed RAM's specs. Mixing ram is generally a bad idea unless it's just mixing brand names that doesn't seem to matter much but differing speeds and latency matters quite a lot.
@TheLionAndTheLamb7776 жыл бұрын
It's been my experience that if you have low density and high density modules in the same machine it will cause issues, and the same goes for using double sided with single sided modules. I just want to throw it out there because I know from experience that these Dell Optiplex 790 and 990 computers won't post with DDR3-1066 (PC3-8500) or 8GB DIMM Modules. They also only work with unbuffered DDR3-1333 or 1600. They won't work with Registered, ECC, or Buffered memory. They sometimes also won't work with "gaming" memory that requires more than 1.5 volts. Gaming memory is not going to be of any benefit anyway in these systems as they offer no ability for overclocking.

I got a asus h55 board, xeon x3470 and 8gb of ddr3 ram for 100ish dollars. I've since then invested into a better cooler (212 evo) and got my xeon to 4.0 Ghz, and it performs almost like a I7-3770 at stock. The x3470@4.0Ghz won't bottleneck a 6gb 1060 and also it will bottleneck a 1070 by only 10% which is great, i find RX580 8gb match for it. Just when picking xeons, try getting the ones that are either rebranded consumer chips or the ones with higher clock speeds and lower core count, something like 4c/8t is just fine for gaming and it's probably going to perform better than 8c/16t that would excel in workstation loads like video editing and animation/3d modelling etc etc

Most websites for the manufacturers of "corporate" PCs have a place on their support page where you can put in the full serial number to find out what is in your machine and exactly what it can be upgraded to. Sometimes upgrading can be a little tricky because of proprietary motherboards, power supplies, etc. And ALWAYS upgrade the BIOS first.

What you should have mentioned is, that some manufactures of OEM-PC use propitary power connectors on the motherboard (even in towercases). So an normal ATX-PSU will not work.

Where did you get the ram? Like what brand is it

Coretimeless you need to have the same brand of ram you can find the brand on the side of the ram stick

I have a similar setup - Optiplex 790 w i5-2500, 32GB of RAM, dual Samsung 860 EVO 500GB SSD and 1 Samsung 870 1TB NVME SSD on a PIce 4x card, EVGA GTX 1050ti 4GB Graphics card. This setup runs most current games at maximum settings with no performance issues. I'm planning a newer build off an XPS machine with the i7-8700, but am waiting until the summer to build it.

Whats the point in buying a system and then upgrading/removing a lot of parts from it? Just get a really cheap dell OEM motherboard, cheap case, and then buy everything else
@nufrequency846 жыл бұрын
Zereko many times the whole computer is cheaper than the parts as a separate. I've got refurb 990 optiplex with i5 2400 for $80
@zereko86386 жыл бұрын
Oh cool, where did you get it from?
@dylanharding57206 жыл бұрын

Zereko eBay, there are lots of refurbishers who sell these office machines all the time
@mysteretsym6 жыл бұрын
Typically the only parts you would remove and upgrade are the gpu and psu. The goal is to buy a cheap pc with a good cpu, which also has a good amount of ram, like 8gb. Then from there, all you need to do is stick a gtx 750 ti or 1050 ti in it as well as a better psu and you have a budget gaming pc

I found an optiplex 9010 with 16gb ram and a i7 3770 for $220. No hdd, but holy crap! Got a 750ti, a cheap used evga 600w, and a $20 wd blue. Awesome system for under $300. Just assembled it today.

If you want a pc under $700 You should buy gtx 1060 3gb Ryzen 5 2600 or 2600x Any gigabyte ab350 motherboard 8 gb of single stick ballistix sport Ram Buy others by your own choice.leave a like

Why not a g4560 $60 a h110m.2 $60 450watt evga $30 8gb ddr4 $80 and a case $70 and you can spend the rest on storage or what ever you want
@bluescluessuperagent6 жыл бұрын
while I think the g4560 was a fantastic cpu when it came out (and to an extent still is), it's only a dual core with hyperthreading. So while it has 4 cores which is the minimum you need for 2018 gaming, why limit yourself to that when you can get real 4 cores with a Ryzen 3 or an 8th gen i3. Plus both of those generations brought more cores to the masses.
@benabel8866 жыл бұрын
not the rn 2600x get the i5 8400 its litterly $40 cheaper and only proforms 3% worse then the 2600x

@@benabel886 the ryzen is alot better for upgrading a i5 8400 can't handle a gtx 1080 without a little bottleneck the ryzen 5 2600x can handle a gtx 1080ti stop being a Intel fan baby

outstanding video well-put-together very professional and straightforward with educational values, I would like to say discount PC on refurbished systems is overly expensive in fact a lot of their Dell systems and servers are between $100 too $300 markup.
