I believe it's an expansion joint in the concrete. As time goes on, and the underlying ground moves around with erosion/other natural forces, the concrete will crack if there isn't some wiggle room. It's a fairly common practice, California does it perpendicular to the driving surface (because their ground moves a lot more mostly), but it's super annoying because the level/angle of each piece you drive over changes so your car bumps around a bunch. Anyway love the videos man!

Gas gets jacked around here, Brave going with a non-locking cap! Those cuts are there after they work on the lines that run beneath the road. Sewage, power, tele-comms all that stuff. Could also be a very long road patch to fix old concrete.
@marttrev4
@marttrev4 6 жыл бұрын
The line in the road is created during the paving period. The shoulders are usually put in first and the main lanes are put in second. Its generally the weakest point in the road and can wear away quickly due to heat, rain, and general wear.

Those lines in the pavement are most likely SawCut lines, that help/prevent the road from cracking due to temperature or moisture changes. They have them all over the place in Canada to prevent the road from freeze / thawing and breaking up.

the line is from the machine that lays down the road, since it is not wide enough it has to do 2 runs 1 large and on half :)
@Bataleon2320
@Bataleon2320 6 жыл бұрын
close. it actually does 3 runs. the machine is only wide enough to do 1 full lane. so the yellow emergency side needs to have some room to. if you look in the middle of the rode on the left lane there is a Passover. & on the far right, the one Taylor is talking about it is the 3rd side.

that line is from when they pave the road, the paver is only so wide so they do multiple passe's to go the full width. that would be just not getting the outside pass close enough

The line is the joint between 2 different passes of the paper laying down asphalt. Often this introduces a weak point where the road fails- as the joint widens it's called 'raveling'.

Ya the cuts in the highway are from people riding rims after blowing tires ...i live on main state road and witnessed this first hand..lol...but could be caused by other things dragging behind vehicles too
@newtc
@newtc 6 жыл бұрын
"Cut in the asphalt" is a seam of the different layers of roadway as they can't lay down a solid edge to edge surface much like your flooring in the house. These seams get exaggerated with rain, hot and cold weather expanding them.
@micro2877
@micro2877 6 жыл бұрын
that line could be something as simple as a cable (telephony, power[unlikely], possibly a water line) alternatively it could be testing has been done across that whole section to determine good spot and bad spot in the road (strong and weak spots) to determine if the tarmac needs to be re laid to strengthen the road.

I would imagine the lines in the road are from them repairing the edge from wear and erosion damage or maybe widening the road a little bit to give more of a shoulder. Those are just guesses though.

Bcs i'm pretty sure that i know what the black lines are on asfalt (8:00 ) let me tell you: when they put the asfalt down they can't always do the whole road in once. They make some strips. The Point where those strips come together are those black lines. It's something they at between it, i think it's a kind of rubber. Not sure if this is correct but that's what i've heared it is. Btw, love your vids, keep them going
