Is it really a issue concerning the wear and tear on the threads when tearing down the airbrush for cleaning like so many say? Thank you

Great video, Bryant. Can I ask what type of thinner you are using. I notice that you don't wear gloves when handling it. My understanding is that paint solvents are known carcinogens. Are you using a safe variety of thinner?

I've got a GREX TRITIUM TG & I'm hoping U might be able to give me some input or suggestions with a problem I'm having with it🙏 👉it leaks paint or any fluid [BADLY] From the "packing screw area" when pulling the trigger back . (I sent the A/B off to a scale Modeling Community Popular Vendor & they replaced the PTFE seal & sent it back to me) After I received the A/B I Put some laquer thinner.in the paint cup to test it- before running any paint thru it. Everything seemed 👌 It sprayed the thinner smoothly without leaking a drop!! I ran a few more paint cups thru it & then put it in the rack while I got my paint ready for it... I filled the cup about 1/3 full of thinner to be sure everything was still good & 😡!!! EXACT SAME LEAK started again...🤷 I've tried contacting the Shop several times without any response back - but I really wanted a 2nd opinion as to what might be going on from someone else...(like yourself😉) Does this sound like anything U recognize ? I'd Really APPRECIATE any Help or Suggestion U might offer me!!! I actually used this video as my guide to cleaning the A/B & everything was Great until it needed that "Packing Screw Seal" replaced by the Modified PTFE now used...?? Thank U - Respectfully : Lee aka:☯️ZenModeling☯️

love the video.. I recently purchased a TG3... When it came to clean it.. There was a little resistance when pulling the needle out... putting it back in after cleaning is that normal... Thanks.. Richie

+twinkey apodaca Sorry for the delay in my response. You may have a little paint build up around the packing seal which is aft of the color cup and forward of the trigger. I would suggest taking a pipe cleaner with some lacquer thinner and work past the color cup area and into the packing seal. It's Teflon so it won't be compromised by the lacquer thinner. If the pipe cleaner gets really "tight" in that area but comes out with paint on it, that's likely what has happened. Repeat the process a couple of times and that should cure the problem. When you put the needle back in the airbrush there should be a noticeable difference. If you continue to have issues please contact me through our website or email us at info@grexusa.com and we'll respond accordingly. We will trouble shoot the issue until it's resolved for you. Thank you for watching the video and let us know if you need further assistance.

Thanks for the video Bryant. Just ordered the TG3 with .7mm fan cap kit. Since i will be spraying cerakote through this airbrush, will acetone be too harsh of a solvent to clean this brush with?

I use a product called Simply Green to clean my parts before painting. The other day I was cleaning some parts and the Simply Green removed some old dry paint from my hands. Would this be a good product to clean the Grex TG3? It sure removes the old dry paint from my hands.

Is the procedure the same when using an epoxy paint? Obviously, you'll be cleaning the gun prior to the epoxy paint hardening.

Hi Bryant, I took your class in Phoenix and bought the airbrush. Great class! The airbrush is great! I do have a question though. Would Simple Green harm the chrome after using acrylics? I used to use Windex and that is what probably did in my old one. Thanks, George

Sorry Mister Dunbar but regarding sonic cleaners you don't seem to realise how much they revolutionised the cleaning of parts like carburettors for vehicles from cars to planes. The slightest scratch on the internals of brass jets will affect the performance and running of a carburettor and it's a no no to poke anything into the jets. Some internal brass parts are fitted into the body of the carb and the best cleaning tool ever invented for shifting blockages from these impossible to reach internals is the sonic cleaner. Ask any garage mechanic who's used them for many years. Having cleaned many auto parts i've never seen damage or corrosion on parts or repeatedly cleaned tools. And that includes chromed brass. A sonic cleaner is capable of removing the hardest dirt deposits and corrosion but will not attack the surface of sound metal including brass.

Ms. Jones, sorry but what you fail to realize is many seem to feel that a sonic cleaner will replace any effort on the part of the end user to actually "clean" their airbrush. Many won't make actually disassemble the airbrush down to it's minute parts and only clean the ones that actually come into contact with pigment or paint. There are are areas of an airbrush that should remain dry in order for the airbrush to perform properly. However, many put the entire airbrush into a sonic cleaner and flip the switch. This does 2 things. First, it can migrate paint and contaminants into areas of the airbrush that otherwise would never get contaminated. Second, these areas now "hold" moisture which promotes corrosion. I've seen the effects of this kind of abuse, and yes it is abuse, and it isn't pretty. It often requires the replacement of parts (usually at the customer's expense) that otherwise would not require replacement over the course of the lifetime of the airbrush. Lastly, there is no control or standard as to what the end user is using as a cleaning agent in a sonic cleaner. Many have come up with some interesting concoctions only to find they "de-chromed" their airbrush. Ammonia based products are often the culprit which are specifically stated not to be used with our airbrushes in the instructions. So don't tell me it can't happen with the latest technologies because it does happen. I've seen the results. I've had customers come to me and tell me they made this kind of mistake and learned their lesson. I have yet to have a customer come to me and tell me my methods of cleaning are wrong, promoting damage to the airbrush and a sonic cleaner is the only way to go. Sorry, there's simply no evidence to support sonic cleaners as the favored method when it comes to airbrushes. I'm not in the business of selling, cleaning or repairing carburetors but if you know sonic cleaners are the best way to go for them, I'm sure you know better than I do. My personal cars are fuel injected and I don't currently own any aircraft so I doubt it'll be an issue I'll need to address.

Wendy Jones Who are you? What are your Credentials on this matter? Super Carb, hot rod, NHRA mechanica? AAA certified Bozo? Gasoline propeller head? Juice box sniffer? who? Let's put down some real facts, are you an avid airbrusher? Do you run Airbrush seminars, with hands-on tutorials and tips? Or are you just pointing out general facts unrelated to the uploaded video in which you are commenting? Maybe you have the wrong KZbin window open and are commenting on multiple issues and got them all mixed up? Maybe you are a propeller head and had an epiphany regarding sonic cleaners and needed to spread the word on the sonic wonder device and Bryant was the first victim of your rant..... Who knows, you must be a teenager...

This is completely wrong. You never put a pipe cleaner or a q-tip in an airbrush. Ever. Pipe cleaners are nothing but lint trapped between two loosely bound wires. Those little fibers are now inside every crevice of that airbrush. Grex either needs to include $.85 nylon brushes with the kit or drop the price down to $30 which is all a Grex is worth imho.

Sweet Jesus! Is this a troll? My Grex airbrush is fine. I have many cleaning agents that I purchased and it didn’t break my bank. Also, I enjoy maintaining my equipment: guns, airbrushes, power tools, hand tools.

I can't believe that you charge $220-$250 for an airbrush and I have to go buy the crap to clean it with.
@bryantdunbar3476

+Andrew Smith I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean. All airbrushes require cleaning. As for cleaning products there are many uses and products that are used in airbrushes. A cleaning product which is conducive and safe for a cake decorator or for body art won't likely work for someone spraying automotive lacquers. You might be disappointed to know there are $300-$800 airbrushes that don't come with cleaning agents either. Lastly, given many products used through an airbrush will require a cleaning product that would likely be hazmat. The cost of shipping of airbrushes would be prohibitive if these agents were included with the airbrush. 2nd day or even 3rd day shipping by air from a dealer to a customer could be prohibited all together.

+Bryant Dunbar I mean why don't you include cleaning brushes? Why are you filming and posting videos suggesting I melt and stretch a plastic sprue? I seriously regret not getting another Iwata. And btw, paint doesn't "reside" in the nozzle. Does it get its mail there? Pay utilities? It doesn't reside there. "There may still be some paint in the nozzle." Having to suffer through your awful communication skills is the worst part of owning a Grex product.
