I disagree... In college we did a experiment(nursing) by cleaning a toilet with... Vinegar....then Scrubbing bubbles..then dawn...then bleach... We tested swabs for germs...build up...actual cleaning of dirt urine and fecal matter..etc. Bleach does the best on all the above... Vinegar as well.. Dawn and scrubbing bubbles did well preliminarily but bacteria and build up was a issue after a few hours. The clorox wipes did very well for surfaces... Just not for inside the toilet or inside the shower...because obviously theyre not big enough or hold enough product..but bleach is the best killer of mold mildew etc

She said, that it disinfects. But it does not really clean. It is not really made for that, so if you use it, you should also do more than just dumping it into the toilet.

They are inexpensive. Then, buy a package of Pod's(Laundry- Detergent Pod's) then put them in the Container. I was tired of the MESS, and Hassel's of the Liquid !!! I'm getting one of those Container's to put under the Kitchen Sink, for the Dishwasher Pod's also !! They have the Large and the Smaller Container's. There is Only "2" of us, so the SMALL one's are Perfect....

Melissa I have a tip. I have been doing this for a decades and it really works. For musty sponges or dish cleaning cloth: After using the sponge or dishcloth, make sure it is clean of debris and then put some dish soap on/in the cloth or sponge and squeeze it out but leave that soap sitting in the sponge/cloth. It will discourage mildew growth. If you leave some soap in the sponge while it sits you will be surprised how much less bacteria grows. It has always worked for me.

Really enjoy this channel. For myself, I try to focus on economy of movement. Meaning not walking from room to room putting items away. Between the 5 cats & 2 "grandogs," sometimes paper towels are a must. I'm not cleaning cat puke with special fancy cleaning cloths . There are other things I know my family & I can make the switch for. I don't use bleach often, because I don't like the smell, & I worry that it will splash onto me & ruin my clothing , or any other fabric or surface. I've found washcloths, hand towels, & bath towels ruined from the younger family members thinking it was ok to use them to clean/wipe when using bleach or a product that had bleach in it. :(

If you want to save articles from old magazines, get a 2 inch binder and a pack of paper sleeves. Whenever you get your next magazine in the mail, clip out the articles you want to keep and slip them in the sleeves or glue them on yardstick so you can still reference them if you're so inclined. This is really nice for recipes. Or, to save space for the more technically inclined, scan it and create a folder for your scanned articles. If you'd like something simpler that you can hold at your fingertips, the OfficeSuite and OfficeSuite Pro apps allow you to take a photo of an image and flatten it to create several types of documents.

I don't like matching socks or folding underwear, so that usually stays in the basket several days....I eventually get to them, but never right away. other clothes, though....I either hang up or fold while they're still warm - helps eliminate wrinkles so I don't have to iron as much. I even made a shirt folding board (made 2 - 1 for my son, 1 for myself). I have ulnar neuropathy & nerve damage in both arms, so the board helps me get things folded neatly.

I use paper towels. I tried micro-fiber cloths, but I have two problems with them. 1. I never have enough for a single washer load, so I get lazy and throw them in with regular towels. I use softener with my towels, so the clothes stop being absorbent. 2. My daughter and grandsons live with us and use them for grungy spills (no matter how many times I tell them not to). But, I will try again. Oh, I forget my reusable shopping bags too. I do have one tip for you that I learned from my mom "never leave a room empty-handed". No clutter or messy surfaces because every time I go from one room to another, I scan the room and take anything that does not belong and put it away. Love your channel.

I've been told by multiple doctors that bleach will only disinfect a surface once all the organic matter that was on it has been removed, so the surface needs to be CLEANED first before using bleach to disinfect it. Now, instead of using bleach to clean, I use straight hydrogen peroxide for most surfaces. It's super cheap (I buy it by the case off Amazon), loosens gunk, and kills germs and bacteria. I even got rid of the pink/orange mold that kept forming in my toilet bowls by cleaning the toilet as usual, pouring 16 oz. of hydrogen peroxide into the tank, flushing, waiting a while (15-30 minutes or so), then repeating the hydrogen peroxide treatment two more times. My reasoning was that each time the toilet was flushed when mold was present, spores were probably aerosolizing and floating up into the channel under the rim, then multiplying inside the channel the water flows through under the rim where the brush can't reach; each flush was probably washing a whole new batch of spores into the bowl. So my aim was to kill spores that might be living in that channel. I did that five years ago, and the pink/orange mold has never come back. I do sometimes have other types of mold that form around the edge of the water in my guest bathroom toilet bowl if it isn't used for a few months, so just I repeat this in there if I see that happening.

I just wanted to add that for magazines you can tear out the page(s) you want and store them in a binder, or as I like to do you can take a picture of the page(s) you want and then you have a digital copy of them. I also do this when someone is giving me a business card. I take a picture and then give the card back to them. It's more environmentally friendly, you are less likely to lose the card, and they have an extra card to give to someone else.

Me too! Except not granite!! I ruined my granite counter over a few years :(( so what I do now is a mixture in a pray bottle of half rubbing alcohol & half purified water for the granite counters! No essential oils unfortunately bc they're acidic & break down the materal, but yes! It works well to break down grease too :)

I'm a "SQUIRREL!" cleaner... I'll start micro-organizing in the middle of doing big stuff first and then realize I'm behind my plan. THEN I start heaping stuff in general vicinity of where it needs to go and sometimes don't get to it. I live in a studio apartment; 25-30% s dedicated to my sewing/quilting hobby and storage and I can get overrun especially in the middle of a project..

I rarely use Clorox bleach because it is hard on clothes and I don't like the harmful chemicals. I do keep a small bottle on hand to soak my mops in to keep them from getting smelly. If you have an alternative to that please let me know.

I have a big problem with wanting to do to many projects or whatever you want to call them so, I start to get things going then the next thing you know, you have to stop before you finish it. Like so many of us,you forget about that one and start to do the next job. I feel like I never get enough time to finish any of them and yes,I know, don't start one till you finish the first one, lol. I know I am not the only one out here that does this. Love your site.

I've worked in a hospital laboratory for 44 years, and BLEACH IS NOT A CLEANER! Using it in hot water negates it's disinfectant properties. It will kill germs in a 10% solution with cold water, but will do nothing to remove dirt and soap scum. There are so many good products on the market; use them instead!

I have a circa 1930s shower that really traps moisture. I had to throw out my non-skid rubber bath tub mat because i couldn't really get the bottom clean. For 2 years now i have rinsed off and hung up my new mat to dry -- it's always perfect, no problem! I do have to leave the shower curtains and window open after a shower to allow moisture to dry, but at least I do wipe down the vinyl shower curtain after a shower along with the tiles, and that has helped a lot.

I am a housekeeper and I don’t usually use bleach in my own home. I mostly use vinegar and water but when I clean someone else’s house, I usually have to use bleach in the showers because people leave their shower curtain/doors closed and they have a build up of mold and mildew. I spray bleach in the grout and let it set and come back and clean and it’s gone. I can’t wait to try your cleaning cloths 👍🏼😁

I love my paper towel too. I really prefer them to storing disgusting dirty cloths in my house waiting to have enough of them to wash on a hot cycle with detergent which also costs money. Running a hot wash cycle and using detergent both have an effect on the environment as well. I love disinfecting wipes for quick sanitary clean ups also. I just skip over the parts of her video when I realized that she was about to be critical of things I find rather pleasant to use, hygienic and even cost effect if you can buy the items when on sale.

I have an ex who had a thing about paper towels vs cleaning clothes. No matter which one you chose, he would fly off the handle the handle that the other was a better choice. For me? Cloth is for drying dishes and hands. Paper towels are my choice for pretty well everything else.
@shawndavis52018 жыл бұрын
Many years ago, we had visiting nurses that insisted we use paper towels for drying our hands. I use paper towels for cleaning the grunge and disgust that would ruin or contaminate cloth cleaning towels. Believe it or not, I used to save my empty paper towel cardboard tubes and sell them in lots of 50 pieces on eBay. I don't know about right now, but a few years ago, they used to sell for about 50 cents a piece.

rosie posie - talking about the environment: it's actually more environmentally friendly to run a hot wash with Eco friendly detergent. Here's why: wet paper towels get thrown into the landfill in airtight plastic bags trapping all that moisture. It's just as bad as disposable diapers, pads, panty liners and the such. All of those keep the moisture locked in slowly depleting the world of clean water. Running a hot load of laundry is an option I prefer a million times over. The electricity for the machine is usually produced either with wind turbines, hydroelectric, solar panels, etc. All renewable energy sources. The water usually isn't dumped into the environment. It usually runs through water clearing and filtering systems before being deposited back into the municipal water reservoirs. The environment was doing so much better in the olden days back when our grandparents were children because nobody used disposable anythings. Surprisingly, Costco has an amazing Eco friendly laundry detergent. I know it's great because I'm allergic to most other detergents. Watkins also sells a great, hypoallergenic, and Eco friendly laundry detergent. Even the container is compostable. :)

My mom used to cut up old clothes that were no longer wearable/donate-able, and use them to wipe out grease from pans and throw them away. Better than tossing the clothes out. It gave the clothes one final use. She also, used cut up, old, clean clothes and pantyhose to tie up storage boxes. We had three walnut trees in our backyard, when I was a kid and my mom would hang the walnuts in old, clean pantyhose, to dry before being shelled. She reused everything at least once.

I never use bleach after watching this great British show about people with an OCD cleaning compulsion & the woman who spent her WHOLE DAY cleaning EVERYTHING with bleach, TWICE A DAY. She was shown how much bacteria still remained on all the surfaces she proudly thought were pristine. And I don't like the smell of bleach which is very long-lasting. The one habit I want to break this year is online shopping........ after I order some of the things you suggested in your video about Christmas gifts for people you don't know what to give. Many thanks. Cheers!

My bad/good habit is laying in bed and watching KZbin videos!! Lol. But I learn a lot from you. Bad habit 1 is surface clutter. Its a continuing job. My husband is a surface junky. I have tried so many things to alleviate this. Next I am trying to change from paper napkins and paper towels. I first noticed this wastefulness was when we would go to like McDonald's or something like that. And people grab like a whole handful of napkins and sit down. They don't use them all so they just throw them away. If we have too many I take them home and use them. I wish I could walk around the restaurant and get everybody's extra napkins.

Maybe I am old school but I was taught that in bathrooms and kitchens to fill a bucket or kitchen sink with soap and bleach then go to town cleaning. I have a stack of cheap wash clothes that I use and then just toss them in the wash. Every night I fill my kitchen sink with soap and a little bleach to rinse my dishes before putting in the dishwasher then I wipe down the entire kitchen before going to bed. I do keep Clorox wipes next to the potty for spot cleaning if someone has an oops. This method is also good for high touch areas such as door knobs and light switches. I was amazed at the beginning of March 2020 that basic cleaning supplies were left of the store shelf but toilet paper was missing. One way to keep from getting sick is to clean your house.

Hi! New to your Clean My Space party! So glad to find you!!. You are a woman after my own heart and we def. think alike. Bleach yes, but as sparingly as possible and for disinfection. Usually in relation to mold. Btw, I'm obsessed with mold. My roommate seems to think I'm insane because I've been insisting (pre- Clean My Space) that he squeegee AND dry the shower tiles, lift & rinse the rubber bathmat and hang to dry, as well as open the bathroom window and turn the fan on (it's an old house, doesn't yet have a built in exhaust in the bathroom) and finally draw the bath curtain closed to allow it to dry... all of this to prevent mold growth in the bathroom. I'm gonna suggest he look at a few of your videos for validation! It's a day off for me, so I've got lots of catching up on your videos to do; you've already taught me a thing or two! Ps. wondering if you are like me and prefer no shoes in the house? My family roll their eyes, (we are in the usa), however, my friends from Asia , where as we know this has been part of culture for a very very long time, are usually happy to comply! PPs. this may be the longest comment I've EVER left anywhere on the interwebs! ;)
