Clear Braces Vs Invisalign | The Winner Is...

I had Invisalign for 2 months and just switched to braces this week. Braces are so much easier and less work. Invisalign is like a ft job. Flossing with braces is the only downside. Takes practice. Update 11/2024 : I’m almost done with treatment. Switching to braces was the best decision and I couldn’t be happier with results. Discomfort was minimal. It was never about being lazy, it was about feeling comfortable and secure with my treatment. No matter what was going on in my life like travel, illness, moving etc, I didn’t have to think about it because my braces were working 24/7 no matter what.

Didn’t you get charged like crazy for switching up? Or price was minimal cause was 2 months? Assuming they want a significant down payment to start with

@@socialmediag5485 my ortho didn’t charge me for switching, because it was within 3 months of starting treatment. If I had switched later it would’ve been $600 fee to switch.

I also just switched to finish treatment with clear braces, I got so tired of Invisalign after a year I just didn’t want to keep doing it and I would forget to put them in and it just wasn’t working well anymore.

Thank you so much for your sharing your experience. I went to Dentist. This one nudged into the invisalign and said i will have not a perfect result but better than nothing. I will go for traditional brace. I eat and drink often .the plastic in invisalign is not compatible to the digestive track. I don't care if i look ugly with brace. When ppl need orth treatment their tteth defintely don't look good.

I wish I was more clearly informed about Invisalign, especially that was going to have attachments and rubber bands. I basically have zero advantages to them over clear braces because you see them even when I take them out.

Invisalign doesn't work for me. They messed up my bite and they weren't able to correct my lower canine tooth, and couldn't align my central incisors. My dentist doesn't know what to do and he said he would only order me so many revisions for my teeth. Now I'm looking into getting traditional braces because my bite is so bad I had to spend around 30 minutes on finishing a chick fil A salad because I can't chew things properly. They did say in the dentist office that Invisalign is not for everyone, and after they scanned my teeth they said it would work for me. But when things didn't turn out well they just try to social engineer me into accepting a terrible bite and my still crooked teeth instead of taking responsibility. It takes me twice as long to chew things now than before Invisalign, and my central incisors got moved back and forth four times and they are still crooked because my other crooked teeth took up extra space and Invisalign just can't correct it. If you really want Invisalign, get it from an orthodontist instead of a dentist. Dentists are not trained for this, they make $$$ from giving you Invisalign without the training in how to get your bites right and how to put everything in place, and all they rely on is the engineered model with Invisalign. Remember that Invisalign is a model built by people, and they are not as intuitive as an orthodontist, who will give you a full analysis and adjust each of your teeth to make it work. The model is a prediction of how your teeth should go and they give you a bunch of trays in one visit. Sounds like less work for the provider and you spend the same amount of money. I went to some orthodontists to get quotes and their quotes are just as much for what I paid my Invisalign. It's still going to be a full set of treatment. I really regret in getting Invisalign.

I got my Invisalign from a ortho and I like it. For a dentist I say that they just care about speed and getting it done to get there name out. But ortho’s actually care about your smile and take the time for Invisalign to make it look amazing

@@aidenrowland1732 thank you for your response. My Invisalign was done through my dentist, and my bite is so off right now that I have to go to an orthodontist to get it corrected. The orthodontist also recommended Invisalign and she said it’s a good tool. I may wear braces for my bottom teeth and Invisalign for my upper teeth.

Week 10 of Invisalign and it’s been fine, you get used to planning to eat more for meals and cleaning more just becomes a habit. Only hard part is a meal where dessert comes 15 mins later, then coffee 15 mins later, these meals can set you back a bit but don’t do them very often

I eat really slow, no way I can keep the Invisalign on for at least 22 hours everyday lol...thank god for waterpik, especially the portable one make flossing and cleaning extra efficient and easy.

I have been in these stupid aligners for over 2 years. 2nd refinement. Now that I think back to my consult, I don't really remember having a choice between braces and aligners. I asked about sublingual and clear, but I feel like I was heavily nudged into the invisalign. Doc, I wish I could have talked to you before I decided on this fate of mine. Invisalign was not explained to me the way you explain it. Everyone needs to hear the way you explain it. I hate invisalign. It is impossible to have aligners in your mouth for 22 hours a day and be near a clean bathroom to brush your teeth after every meal?? I also started grinding since having invisalign because of the anxiety of having them in; it's almost like I'm chewing on them. Terrible habit. I had a follow up this morning and I actually asked my orthodontist if I could switch. I am depressed and over it. I want my life back.

I second this. I wish I could turn back time 6 months and choose braces instead. I was an adult and I could finally afford the treatment. I knew I wanted traditional braces but this one doctor talked me into getting Invisalign instead. I will not go into details because English is not my first language but in short - I now know I have been manipulated. Invisalign costs more and requires less work from doctors so some of them use this system for personal gain even though it's not in their patients best interest for multiple reasons. They don't inform patients about all the negatives. Wearing them for 22 hours a day is pain in the ass and frankly impossible if you want to eat like a normal human being. Forget about going out to eat, chilling with a book and a cup of coffee/tea or eating something during a flight. I am already very skinny and find it very hard to keep a healthy weigth. Having to remove the trays, eat as fast as possible and then wash my teeth (which you shouldn't do right away btw)and put them back in at least 4-5 times a day is the bane of my f...king existence. Plus I really wanted the braces, I wanted the look, I wanted to pick out different colours...My parents could never afford them so it carried a deeper meaning. Now i feel like my dream is lost.

I also chew on mine. I can't breathe normally. I can't fully close my mouth so I either suck up the air or breathe through my mouth😪 I don't know what to do with my tongue and I constantly catch myself doing weird things with my mouth/tongue. I feel like my face has elongated and aged and I've only had them for 4 months.

I want to get my daughter teeth straighteners but she eats and drinks beverages that stain and she lays things down and loses things like glasses, water bottle . She also can be lazy with molar brushing and flossing.

Metal braces probably fits her the most. Doesn't stain, can't be lost. Her laziness with brushing and flossing would be a problem regardless of braces or invisalign. If she can't commit to brushing and flossing, then personally I would say save your money. If she wants to in the future and is willing to commit to it, she can pay for it as an adult. If she's spending her own money, she would probably be more inclined to make it work.

I had a consult for Invisalign at my dentist recommendation. I’ve never had braces or felt I needed. I’m 54 and my teeth are shifting. To say the consult showed subtle change is an understatement! I didn’t see a difference! So now I don’t know, braces or even veneers on the few teeth that shifted. I dunno. I go to dds this week so we’ll see.

@@janiceg7661 do not get Invisalign from your dentist!!! Most of the time they don’t know what they are doing because they’re not trained to do orthodontic work!!! Go to an orthodontic doctor for your own sake. I had my Invisalign from my dentist and it messed up my bite and my teeth are still crooked. When I went to the orthodontist I heard so many horror stories about dentists doing Invisalign. Some people get a good look but the bite is always messed up.

EVERYONE LISTEN UP: so you don't waste ur money I'm going to tell you my story I take medications for mental health purposes and I used braces and invisalign and they BOTH broke because of my medications I have excessive teeth grinding so if you grind your teeth and use antidepressants maybe wait until you don't take prescribed meds that affect grinding

Probably braces? They are just brackets on the tooth so they don't encroach on your throat. I'd imagine the clear aligners will reach a *little* further back because I've worn retainers like those when I was younger. I can't imagine Invisalign will effect you much in that way anyway, but talk to an Orthodontist if you want a professional's opinion

Can anyone give me some tips? Ive been thinking of changing from braces to Invisalign cause my braces feel not great , the wires constantly pop and whenever brushing or using toothpicks it does this I also have been getting irritation in my entire skin like is it worth switching?

I know u commented this 3 months ago, but personally even though I’m only a week into my Invisalign treatment I like it so far, now I may get tired of it like other people but I’m staying strong, Invisalign is definitely I would say better for your eating and hygiene, now a lot of people say that Invisalign may not work as well so they switch to braces. It’s kinda just a try and see type thing if you’re allowed to switch for free. If my Invisalign doesn’t work for me I’m allowed to switch back to braces at any point in my treatment for free
