Thanks mate, much appreciated. I genuinely enjoy playing with all this stuff and I have the time to experiment , it does cost me money but I enjoy the freedom to say what I think, glad it comes across ok, certainly with regards to the results there really is little in it with these clears as far as the final finish is concerned but that doesn't tell it all, the Upol is the hardest to spray as it has little flow out but because I'm used to it I get good results with it, thanks again 👍
@cristianb.41352 жыл бұрын
The Loss of gloss is due to the fact that the clear coat continues to dry in the following days till reach the effective dry film... Ms clears, as you know, are the worst.. real hs and uhs are the best. Anyway, as usual, very good video!

Really enjoyed your video. It's the first time I have seen head to head comparison of clears. What surprised me was how close they looked in terms of end results. That is mostly down to your good technique. I might try the MM2 soon on a project. Love the Mipa but it's nearly twice the price and I can't justify it at the moment.
@peteshobbies53832 жыл бұрын
Hi George, glad you enjoyed the video, I've been wanting to stitch it together for a wile, I thought it was a bit better than just four separate videos and coming from the same painter was more of a comparison as it obviously all in one. Yes, the MM2 is good, having said that 4 people contacted me on Instagram when i put a photo of it up saying they were having problems with it and the problem varied as well so it's not for everyone. The CX4 as you say is good but new stock of that has got really expensive, fine if you can pass it on but as budgets get tight not so appealing. The final finish was virtuality indistinguishable, that's after 2 days, course there's more to it than that but there's only so much you can do, I have used the Upol for year's so am used to spraying it, it definitely doesn't flow out as well but if you know that you can compensate as your laying it down, cheers buddy 👍

I just realized there are two US versions. 2822 which is a "high solids" of 38% vol/43% wt mixed. Then there's the HS Super 2802 which is 38% vol /42% wt mixed. Neither are as high solids as other HS clears, but not bad either. It appears while the solids percentage stated (mixed and unreduced) are quite similar, the only difference I see is the 2802 is described as a "water white crystal clear". A 7.5 liter kit can be had as low as $172 with choice of hardnerner from slow to fast. From the looks of the comparisons, that's a very good deal for the price. I think I will be ordering one for my next project. Thanks again, Pete!

Hi mate, That makes sense, as in the UK we have 2080, same as your 2802, I think. We also have 2081 and a 2082, which is the same as your 2822, I think. I've never used the 2082 but have the 2081 and of course, the 2080 in this video, there is a difference in the 2081 and 2080, the 2081 does have a better flow but I suspect it a slightly lower solids than the 2080

I use CX4 with HX4 but not all the time, mainly on bumpers so when fitting up the are nice and hard so less risk of of marking them, also on small jobs that might be going out quicker It’s a great clear and gloss is very good especially for the speed it drys, it’s a bit more advanced technology for fast/air dry clear so probably why it’s quite expensive, also it saves me gas in the booth with little or no bake times so is quite economical on that side of things Down side is the polish window so if jobs are not being polished for a few days or bigger jobs I used Mipa CC9 You can use HS10 and HS25 hardner in CX4 for bigger jobs and a bigger polish window Great review 👍
@peteshobbies538311 ай бұрын
Hi mate, Yes, I certainly have found the CX4 + HX4 a very good option if you want good results with speed. The polishing window was something I mentioned, I think. As you say, it's only short, which can catch people out that are new to it. Certainly a good clear though, cheers buddy 👍

I never used it before but reason I started using it was because a paint dealer that I purchase it from said all the repair shops that purchased from him loved it, I thought yes he was just saying that but there has been times that he was out and waiting on delivery so he must be telling me the truth. Anyway great video as always mate very good clear information there. Cheers mate.
@peteshobbies53832 жыл бұрын
Thanks Steve, yes, you can polish weeks after if you want but it's much much harder and you often can't get all the tiny swirl marks out, much easier to do it when the clear is comparatively soft, this varies on temperature, hardener and clear , cheers mate 👍
@Mikefngarage Жыл бұрын
the first time I used Kapci 6030 I didnt really like it that much. but that was because I was using accelerator. It just does not work well with that. But later I dint use accelerator and Man I love that clear. it is super easy to spray. retains excellent gloss. Totally predictable. Just spray like you say 1 just over tack coat like medium dry, and one as heavy as you want. Then if flows out beautiful. NO DIE BACK.... just as shiny as ever. just keep the pressure up and it flows then holds without running like a pig like some of them.
@peteshobbies5383 Жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, I don't use an accelerator as it normally causes some loss of gloss as you say. The problem I had initially with the Kapci was the "fast" harder, the first time I used it it was around 9c or 10c or 50f, I left it overnight and the temperature went down to 2c or so, it was still not touch cured 24 hours later, apparently fast is like everyone else's normal hardener, so with extra fast, it should be better, in warmer weather it's not a problem at all. As you say, an impressive gloss and is very forgiving, and quite cheap
@JohnWD40TC022 жыл бұрын
Hey Pete, a really really interesting video mate you really explained it well and IMO your findings are spot on and exactly the same as mine, I haven't tried the CX4 but I have heard it's really good and the CX9 UHS is said to be an amazing clear. Like you I've heard a few complaints about the MM2 but have no idea why people have problems with it, I can only imagine they don't read the TDS and probably spray it the same as the Multi-Mix MS which I have tried and it still came out fine. As you know I've used the U-Pol which is a highly underrated clear but as you say you have to spray your finish with that as there is next to no flow-out so it takes a bit to get used to it but for the price it's a good clear. For me the Kapci 6030 is the best of the three (not including the CX4), again as you mentioned it works at it's best with the extra fast hardener but even then it's still a bit slower then the MM2 with fast hardener which I think is why the Kapci gives the better finish. The CX4 is really in a different league as it's more expensive so is a better quality product. Not sure if you know Pete but Kapci are bringing out a new clear in September, I think it will be called the 6050 and will be a true UHS and is said to be one of the best UHS clears out there, I'll be getting my hands on a 1.5L sample kit to try soon, ok I better bugger of as I can type about clearcoats all day🙄😂🤦♂ Thanks for doing this Pete🤗👍
@peteshobbies53832 жыл бұрын
Hi John, yeah, the Kapci went from my worst to my best over the 4 months or so of using it, most of that was down to the temperature, as you know it got quite hot here and the slower Kapci came into it own so with xfast I think it will be fine. The CX4 is as you say much more expensive, it's no different in use to the mm2 and Kapci but really goes hard very quick and retains it's gloss doing that, a great smart clear for sure. Yes i did know Kapci were bringing out another uhs clear, be interesting to see what it's like, cheers mate 👍
@JohnWD40TC022 жыл бұрын
When I first started using the Kapci 6030 I did have problems getting a nice flat finish but Gav advised me to add 5% thinners and after that and getting my guns setup better it was fine. I must give the CX4 a try but I still have some of the Tetrosyl and the ColoMix plus I want to use the rest of my MM2 and I've got nearly a full kit of the MM1 that I won last year😂 so many clear kits. I have been promised a sample kit of the Kapci UHS problem is I'm still waiting for the 6030 sample kit that I should have had last November🙄🤦♂😂😆 been chucking some Tetrosyl clear through the Sata this morning it's nice clear but very thin👍
@peteshobbies53832 жыл бұрын
I haven't used the Tetrosyl yet, yes, I've been putting thinners in the Kapci and MM2, 5% or 10% when its cold as it helps it flow better, not been using any in the warm weather and its been fine. Hi Jason, I'm no spokesman for Multi mix but really surprised your having that problem, I've been using the fast hardener all the time, even in winter, 10c in the day 0c at night the MM2 went off ok, of course they will be a little soft for a few days but not that soft, certainly workable for polishing etc, the the warm weather we have now it's goes off much quicker as you would expect. Having said that you are among a few that contacted me to say they were having problems so maybe it a production issue? If you try the Kapci go for the Xfast even in this weather as its more like a fast, not for full resprays but certainly for most jobs you come across, cheers mate, be interesting to hear what you think of the Kapci 👍

@peteshobbies538310 ай бұрын
Hi buddy, A 2k clear coat takes time to fully harden, depending on the clear used and temperature. This can take a day or a few weeks or more. The harder the clear becomes, the harder it is to polish. So it's best to sand and polish in a time where the clear you have used will be more receptive to polishing, Makes the job easier and faster

@peteshobbies538310 ай бұрын
Hi Mate, Yes, I use the 6033 with the Kapci 6030, the first time I used it the temperature was a max of 6c and went down to -3 at night, it took 2 days to go off enough to remove the dirt nibs. I don't use it anymore in low temperatures. You will have a better chance at 12 to 13c. The best thing to do is use 6031 extra fast, it's acts the equivalent to a fast in European manufactured clear coats, so it should be ideal at your current temperatures. Happy New Year, mate 👍

Most TDS of clears will say up to 10% thinners. In the summer, I don't normally use any, maybe just a tad, but up to 10% is fine. Any virgin thinners will do, often called 2k thinners. You can use that to thin basecoats, primers, and clears regardless of make or it being 1k or 2k.

Yeah, you'll definitely need something, they are designed to cure the paint after application but it's invaluable for helping warm the panels before you paint as well as after when it's cold, particularly with clear coat where I put heat before application then some 4 to 5 minutes after to allow time for the clear to flow out, most technical data sheets will give you a recommended time to allow before using a lamp 👍

Hi William, Yes, we were chatting the other day. The Kapci is a very good clear coat, particularly at the price it is. It flows out nicely, keeps a good gloss, and can be loaded if necessary without the worry of solvent pop. Only thing I would say, I know your in the US, is the hardener/activator is quite out speed wise, so unless you are regularly painting at say 85 to 90f the extra fast may be what you need, I find the fast hardener is unusable in the UK in the winter as it takes days to go off drying in the air, or you need to lamp it for ages, cheers mate 👍

Hi buddy, this is an old video but theses are the ones i use, i don't use the air mask as much as i should, I use the Moldex most of the time and the Devilbiss if I'm doing a lot, the key is to extract the overspray as well as possible, I have a 24" fan in a home made box with filter media that it pulls through, video is below kzbin.info/www/bejne/mISpnXymhdR5gdk

@@peteshobbies5383 Thanks Pete, I will see that video, I'm concerned about this before I start my project. If you know of any ISO free paint, let me know please. I may end up using 1k. More research needed. So many ppl on YT spraying 2K without proper PPE.

Yes, i agree to an extent, there's lots of scary stuff on the web about ISO clears and paints, some are real and you do need to watch what you do, ofter stuff is just scare mongering, i read once a chap used 2k in his shed once and half his garden died, that's just rubbish, so yes, take care but don't get too hung up on it otherwise you won't do anything

hi how much pressure you use for kapci clear thanks
@peteshobbies53832 жыл бұрын
Hi Mindaugas, on this test with the DV1 it was 2 bar at the base of the gun or 1.5 on the digital gauge, if you use a different gun the pressure may not be the same
