This is one of the finest films on Omeleto. Ever. The story is tragic on so many levels. Her erratic vanity, the awkwardness in their relationship, the job thing… all just crumble into insignificance with the blink of an eye. And takes us viewers, perhaps especially us who remember exactly where we were when those news broke, on an extreme rollercoaster ride. Oh, and also: The camera work is superb. A very very very well-made film!!

Powerful. I remember that day so clearly. I was in nursing school, at psych clinical and although I was near my kids schools, I wasn’t allowed to leave the site until the school received further info from the Dean and the Dean of the school of nursing. When I was finally permitted to leave, it took me over an hour to drive 4 miles then had to wait 30 mins in line at the first school in order to show ID before my son was allowed to leave (many parents didn’t bring their ID or left purses/wallets in their cars and had to get it then get back in line). Once my son was retrieved, I had a 35 min drive to the next school 2 miles away and had the same process as the previous school. I drove us straight home as businesses were closing. That day, and those that followed, was a nail biting day as more reports came in with the downed plane in PA and the Pentagon hit. I didn’t give hate to any Arab national or any Muslim but I was terrified of an attack as I live in MD and near the Port of Baltimore. RIP to all the lives lost and continued condolences to those left behind. 🇺🇸🕊️

As with so many people who are old enough to remember, that day, that moment is etched in my memory forever. My wife was not sure what was going on as information was just coming in when she woke me up and told me, "There's been some kind of terrorist attack. Planes are falling out of the sky." My very first thought, which I said to her, was, "My parents are on a plane right now," because they were flying to Europe that morning. For an agonizing 20 minutes or so I had no idea if my parents were alive or dead, but then more information started coming in about the attacks, and unlike the poor woman in this short, I had a happier ending. My parents ended up calling to tell me their flight had been cancelled because of the attacks. I had a strange mixture of relief that they were okay, mixed with the horror of what had happened to so many other people. It was a terrible day.

Well written and acted, so sorry for those whose lives this was based on 😢 I wasn’t in this exact position but I still remember very clearly the fear and panic feelings in myself and everyone around me…I was young, living on a university campus and we just had no emotional or historical context for what was happening, everyone reacted differently, and the situation was unknown and kept changing for days, so I can understand why the range of emotions between the two characters…love, thoughts and prayers to those still effected today.❤

Besides being a great, dramatic story, it seems to me that this could also be a metaphor for how people treated those that appeared to be from the Middle East in the wake of 9/11. She blamed him for something that he had no control over, and with which he was not involved. From my memory, that was pretty prevalent in America after 9/11. I struggle to imagine that the casting was a coincidence.

WOW. Intense. I will never forget those few days. My best friend was working as an American Airlines flight attendant. Her route was NY to San Francisco. We knew the plane that crashed near the Pentagon was that same route. It took 3 days to learn she was not on the flight. This film reminds me of how the Muslim community was demonized after 911. Americans are some of the most xenophobic people I know. It was clear that in the beginning of the film she had not told her parents about her boyfriend because he was a brown person. She was worried her father would freak out. :( After 9/11 Americans were grabbing random brown people and beating them based on their appearance. Horrific.

Apparently you didn’t notice the attacks on Christians and Jews in Islamic countries right after 9/11 A very historical church even went up in flames in Egypt, and the Muslim brotherhood claimed it. Then again, this happens in Muslim countries all the time. They even harass non-Muslims in Dearborn Michigan all the time, before and after 9/11. I know, I’ve experienced it. Then the intolerant immediately demand tolerance. “Horrific” also. Look with both eyes, to both sides. If one is horrific, so is the other.

It is a poignant film reminding us of the victims of terrorism. From 1969 to 2001, both Ireland and the UK suffered 116 terrorist attacks with bombs killing and injuring many civilians including children. During these times, my thoughts were always with the families, who would hear the reports on the radio or TV, but could wait hours for news of the their relatives.

Things we do in our lifetime that set into motion a series of unfortunate events. Many with good intentions, only to be rewarded with the guilt of those good intentions. I remember a situation where an owner of a small business ordered pizza to be delivered to surprise employees with food for hard work and some time to blow off steam with fellow colleagues. While in route to the delivery location, the driver turned into a motorcycle hidden behind a van coming the opposite direction causing the rider to be pinned against a tree with various injuries and his legs in positions not intended for anyone to be able to accomplish. - The rider survived but he will be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life with no use of his legs because both were amputated - Good intentions yes but it does push thoughts into the forefront of "could have, should have, would have . . . didn't With all that said . . . I do believe her boytoy overstepped his bounds of inviting parents without discussing with her because obviously he and they never met because of the statement "They don't know about you," and should not have made assumptions about people he doesn't know

This was certainly flawlessly executed and very touching. But then, I don't really see the point of it. I mean, there's nothing to learn from it, no truth about human nature or relationships illustrated in an illuminating way, no inspiration given. It's a safe, but also empty, way to play.
@BassByTheBay
@BassByTheBay 8 ай бұрын
Agreed, though I didn't think it was flawlessly executed or very touching. It has good camera work, but the script is rather hackneyed and relies too much on expository dialog, and the female lead's acting is a bit too heavy-handed (that might be the director's fault). Your point about the film's lack of impact is right on the nose, IMO. It uses 9/11 to try to create an emotional impact, but it failed to elicit any emotional investment in the characters. I will never forget the horror of 9/11 and how long it stayed with me afterwards, but the way it was used here just felt like a "gotcha" with no point. As you said, there's nothing to learn - no insights, no inspiration, no deeper questions. The film felt more like a technical exercise. I've watched many Omeleto shorts, and I felt an emotional impact from many of them, but this one just left me unmoved, unfortunately.
@000aleph
@000aleph 8 ай бұрын
@@BassByTheBay Yes, you clarified some of my own thoughts on this. And you might be right about the execution not being perfect, I feel this goes into film-theory territory I'm not entirely familiar with. Another thought I had is that this piece connects with the general emphasis on "feelings" and subjective experience that seems important to the current generation of filmmakers. It is like a display of pure emotion that is artificially crafted, without any naturalistic context.
@UnclePea
@UnclePea 8 ай бұрын
I'm sorry you weren't moved. I was. It brought back my own experiences of that day, which had some overlap with this movie's plot. Technical flaws or not, the idea was sturdy, at least for those of us with emotions still to process on the topic-I'm sure I'm not the only one. After a deadly disaster, "What if"s and "you coulda"s are very emotionally compelling.
