This was very similar to the comment I was going to post. I'm sure mulching has its purpose and place, but for the use of this lot it wasn't the right option.

If you use the right mulching equipment then the stumps and mulch are not a problem. You need a large mulching machine that can do subsoil mulching to about six inches of depth. Then you end up with a nice rich loam that will grow just about anything.

@@liberalpatriot6650 And costs an arm & a leg. Chris, on the original Bealy Good project, estimated it would cost 4 times what he charged to take down the trees and stump them. Plus you still have the problem of the stump remainders in the ground, rotting and soil subsidence.

Mulching is great if you are patient (as in years). It's also fast; perfect to clear property lines and thin out undergrowth. This property was unfortunately about 4 or 5 years too late for mulching. But it's getting fixed.

They are building to close to your farm if you can go home in a jiffy. I sure hope he let's you stump his lot. Will be much better for him. Yes I had my trees thinned and the stumps were about a foot out of the ground. It was a mess. No place to burn and years to decompose but the soil is amazing now. Was a Red dirt farm, cotton, watermelons and sorghum grain back in my grandfathers day. Good job. Thanks Chris.

I was once working the supply fuel to a then new LNG site which is 6 1/2 hours west of Brisbane, Australia and the company had contractors with these mulching machines that would clear acres of land like what in this video by first pushing the trees over then mulching the tree up and it went to a depth of 18 inches into the ground. One machine handling the whole process to. These machines could work at a good walking pace. in a week the heavily treed property was stripped back to dirt. Then the drillers would come in sink their wells down. Amazing to watch.

Definitely going to be a real nice Homestead for the owner once all that is cleared off. To bad whoever had it harvested didn't have it stumped and replanted properly. Up in Michigan they used to make you do that and the state would come in and replant it so it was easy to maintain undergrowth. Less ground fuel for Forrest fires that way and if there is one it's easier to fight them.

Really the only reason they would replant is if they want specific tree species, to come back and log again later. Otherwise its wasted investment if your going to sell the land

Sweet Gum trees are great, just like children as long as they are not mine to deal with. Those dang things are a mess to deal with however the lumber has many uses and the sap as well.

Luck that the yellow jackets aren't to bad just yet !! I would think that there would be a few nests in some of those stumps !! Don't think I would ever have anything like that mulched up !! It just causes way more work in the long run, when it does come time to clear it like now. Yeah, all that little ol stuff will dry out pretty quick, don't ya think Chris ?? I was watching a homesteading channel and the guy was thinking of shredding for a field. I pointed out a prior video where you said how the land would still have to be worked anyway because of all the roots and how much easier it was to yank them out in the first place.

I will say I like the angles in this video. It's cool to watch from the outside. Especially when you are working towards and around the camera. This is why when my mother in law asked about mulching I told her right out. Lol. Just have someone come in and clear it. No sense in having saplings grow up in a few years and have to work around a bunch of stumps. Some hardwood, but mostly pine. Keep up the awesome work Chris!!

If your D6 with the root rake is available, I would suggest you clear the scrub trees with the D6 and use the excavator on the lager trees and stumps. Thanks for sharing.

Our pine trees here in south Carolina low lands (sandy soil) are rooted very deep with a huge tap Root. Even a small 10" pine is a pain in the ass to remove. Oaks are easier to get out. (Running a jd 410c backhoe) maybe it has to do with soil type when pines grow a massive tap. I have to dig all the way around them and rock them back and forth to looses the tap Root.

Chris, why not ask a machine shop in your area to replace that Christmas-tree of connectors and adapters with a nice clean block? It will be clean looking, easier to use and better to maintain. And it will prevent it catching on stuff as well. Explain what you need, and how you would prefer to use the connectors and attachments, and they'll make you the perfect block.

In his area, they farm trees. Usually pine trees for telephone poles or pulp. There just is not that many hardwood trees like more northern climates.
