Between the Cleartones and the Evertune, that's some mighty impressive tuning stability/intonation for such aggressive picking on those chugs.

For a standard scale guitar and an average player, i think going a half step lower than what they advertise is optimal. I’m using the 11-56 set on an SG and when i’m tuned to drop D they feel HEAVY! It feels a lot lighter tuned to C# or even C. Granted, i like the tone and feel of thicker strings in general, so I am very happy with the thick bois

I have four packs of these and when I put them on my PRS, they lasted me 2 months and I was really happy with that. Ernie Ball strings don't even last me 2 weeks.
@DeanFromHell199311 жыл бұрын
he´s probably referring to the fact that a downwards chromatic line would rather be named e > eb > d > db instead of e > d# > d > c#. that´s just the conventional naming system!

i always wanted to try cleartone strings ever sincei heard of them a few months ago and i was at guitar center fooling around with the guitars and i was also looking around at the string and they had the cleartone heavy series drop d set and my dad bought them for me and i put them on just about a half hour ago at first they seemed hard to bend and if i tried they get outta tune and i couldn't sweep either (i can only sweep pick on 2 strings but on those i coudn't at all) but then after a few minutes later they seem to be working better so as far as i know they're pretty good and i can't wait to get the drop c# drop c and drop a

Hey fluff how do this compare to cleartone treated strings? Is it the same thing just different name or is the tension on the monsters higher? Thanks in advance and keep on riffing

Are the 13-60 good in Drop B. I currently have 12-52 in Drop B and they are a little to loose for me.
@trainsanddominoes19 жыл бұрын
Brennan Hales you mean 12-60 right? and yes i think they'll be good for drop B and if you'd like replace the 60 with a 70 if you like a tighter feel like i do

***** I love to have a .13 in my first string. It feels great. I tried 12s and 11s but hands down I have chosen 13s for Drop C and C standard.
@trainsanddominoes19 жыл бұрын
ferna2294 it's all a matter of preference i like 11's for drop c and i'm gonna try cleartone's 13-70 strings and if i like them which i probably will i'll use them but most likely mainly for c standard and drop a# cause i like a tighter feel on my bottom strings
@ferna22949 жыл бұрын
Of course it´s a matter of taste. In my case, both 12s and 13s held the tunning pretty well in drop C and C standard. I prefer the consistency in tune that 13s have in my guitar. It´s a really really cheap guitar so it gets out of tune easily, but now I´m really satisfied with the balance between intonation and string flexibility in drop C and even C standard with 13-56 strings (it´s a 7 string set without the first 10 gauge string).

Same here, i have to say that I have a lot of sweat on my fingers while I´m playing. The Cleartone behave like regular strings. The attack and the harmonic response got away after a few hours of playing in the studio. There was a brilliant sound at the beginnig though. ON high gain stuff it doesnt really matter but the clean sounds terribly dump just after a few hours of playing. Especially the thick strings sounded like jazz strings o_O. On the g,b and e string the "Ultra thin coating" didnt work out against my fingers or my sweat. That is also why the experiment of elixir an cleartone in water doesnt make really sense. It is more the chemsitry strukture of the sweat that destroyed the coating emediatly on the cleartone ones. I did not have all these problems with elixir. It might be my sweat or whatever, but elixir sounds almost ,after a few months of intense playing, like on day one. If you guys have a lot of sweat, then i really do not recommend cleartone

Plus, well preference. Even if you end up with strings tighter than the average player to bend, I'm sure plenty of people would enjoy them for the tonal difference.

hi there i play the monsters strings for normal drop c tuning at the beginning it was realy like holy shit nicest strings ever but the string for f does get a shit sound after 2 hours it is like the f string needs to be play in a much higher tuning but it will always sound not good so i have to change this string but the other strings are all very good. so fluff here is my question what would you do to replace this one ??
@jamesmason032511 жыл бұрын
A bunch of reviews of the Cleartone Monster strings have said that even when tuned to the recommended pitches, the strings still feel too tight and exert too much tension. I primarily tune to Drop C (and occasional D standard) so I was looking at trying out the set they make for Drop C, but if they really are that tight, I'm hesitant to get them. How does that work out for you?

Hey I have a quick question. When I usually buy strings for my strat they have that shitty "HOLLY CRAP IM SO TWANGY AND GANGLY AND NOT METAL AT ALL" sound until they are broken in. NOW are these good for (a lack of better term) bypassing that gangly twangy shiney sound stage or do they have to still be broken in? IF these don't can you recommend a company that makes strings that sound nice and broken in out the gate? Thanks a lot for reading and replying man.
@3amsleep10 жыл бұрын
that "TWANGY AND GANGLY AND NOT METAL AT ALL" is the natural sound of a strat, that's what a strat sounds like. either get a heavy humbucker or a new guitar

Decided its more relevant to ask in this video rather than your recent ones, but how often do you change strings? The clean sounds on your vids are noticeably crisp (I know that's a weird thing to say since you demo mostly high gain gear).

Fluff, I'm sorry, but these don't work at all for me. I bought a set that started to have rusted cracks in the plain strings within like 3 days. The tone was bright still but was dead, as in it was trebly, but the harmonic response you get from new strings wasn't there. I put on Elixirs 3 months ago replacing the Cleartones and I can tell you that they sound exactly the same today from day 1 through an A/B recording comparison of my guitar. The harmonic response and brightness still sound exactly like they did. I understand some people don't like the coating, but honestly, if the thin treatment coating on a Cleartone set is going to melt away from the acidity of my sweat within 3 days, what's the point dude? I'm sorry but these really are awful FOR ME, not saying for everyone. This is probably best for people with only mild problems of their string going dead, not for people with severe problems with strings going dead like me.
@LemmyKoopaVGA10 жыл бұрын
I was hoping that was the case. I was really excited to get Cleartones because Elixirs can't take rough techniques like pick scrapes or anything that can tear off the coating.
@predz2310 жыл бұрын
Thats exactly my experience with every set of cleartones I've bought, they sound great and they offer a great selection of gauges for metal players. But they still turn dull and worn out within days like normal strings. I go with Elixirs now but I hate that they have limited options for downtuning.
@LemmyKoopaVGA10 жыл бұрын
predz23 I hate that too. Polywebs last for a very long time, and they only have like 2 gauges for that. Luckily I'm using a Variax so I can tune my guitar without actually losing tension on the strings, but for my other guitars, there's not much options. Either way, I was incredibly disappointed with cleartones. It has to be a reaction to certain people's hands I guess. The coating just melts off instead of "flaking off"
@HawxGaming10 жыл бұрын
Lemmy Koopa Tip for elixirs: Buy 7 string sets! And yes the Polywebs have been on my five acoustics for the past three years and are still brand new... They have been trying to phase them out by discontinuing most gauges. However, they occasionally pop up on ebay so keep looking. Remember to buy the ones that have anti rust plain steels or you get a half-coated half-not set :)
@LemmyKoopaVGA10 жыл бұрын
Hawx Yeah, one of the biggest problems I have with strings is that the plain strings rust in 3-4 days. From silver color to brown, to black in after a week. I've had a set for half a year until it started to show signs of rust. Maybe they don't last as long as your set, but 3-5 months beats 3-4 days.
