Right. I've been at my job for over 10 years. Wife gets diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in her 30s so i missed a couple days to help her with chemo treatments, they're saying im about to get fired and even if i dont get fired i forsure won't get a raise this year. They've fired 4 people recently and we have a pretty small crew. It's pretty savage if you ask me but they're obviously feeling the pinch from this failing economy. They're just looking for any reason to cut people, probably because they're going broke. It's a wine distribution center, in the time I've worked there It's always been steadily growing until these last couple years. The warehouse seems very empty these days. I was getting 60+ hours a week all through covid and before, now we have half the crew and we're getting around 30 hours a week, pay cuts all around, no raises, if you're not there 5 minutes early then you're late and you're probably getting fired, no excuses. Absolutely savage.

People complaining about not finding good jobs, meanwhile us blue collar workers are having no issue. Aircraft mechanic here making $68/hr right now and currently at 5 weeks vacation / year + sick days + 5 personal holidays + pension and little 401k match. Not the best but we are not struggling. A lot of my friends are either plumbers / electricians, journeymen and making more than me as far as /hr rate. Thing is this industry is always hiring. Maybe it's time to give up on full remote jobs or office jobs. With AI rapidly accelerating in development, more and more office jobs will disappear and be replaced by an AI. Yes there's new sector for AI jobs but the amount of jobs it'll replace is far greater than created.

Don, everybody can't do the trades you are talking about. Or physically do them anymore. Some people nowadays also have been trained more with computers than doing old-school skilled trades. Therefore, AI and remote work is more the way to go, unfortunately. I actually got a trade years ago and as a woman it paid jack diddly. It seems men with trades get paid handsomely though.

The other 25% has been due to covid over hiring and shedding many of those people. Inflation has been the single largest contributor to layoffs. Oh yeah, reminder, excessive printing of money is the cause of inflation.

@ I’m talking about the people being laid off. A little anecdotal evidence. There’s a food warehouse near my workplace that doesn’t pay very well, like a dollar above minimum wage here in California. I drive by everyday and see about 100 cars parked outside of that warehouse. I’ve been noticing nicer and newer cars pop up there. Cars that you wouldn’t be able to afford if you just worked there. This leads me to believe that people are being laid off from higher paying jobs and instead of getting on unemployment and collecting a few hundred dollars a week, they are getting any job they can get even if it’s low paying. It could also be people having to work a second job to be able to keep their current lifestyle.

Companies are interviewing job candidates for 1-3 months and at the last interview they reject them or often ghost the candidate because they are not really hiring or there are very few office jobs available. The candidates spend days hours weeks months jumping through hoops for these companies to try and land a job, but nothing ever comes of it and two or three months have gone by and more rent and bills are due. Candidates end up in this situation for many many months which turn into a couple of years, and they lose their 401 K and savings and end up living with relatives but if they have no one to live with they end up homeless. The job market is very bad and companies are being very vindictive in having these long drawn-out interview processes that go on for months when they have no intention of hiring the person. Causing financial devastation and homelessness of talented experienced responsible sober, law-abiding citizens. This has been going on for over two years but no one talks about it -
