More of a Modification than a Restoration!

I use restoration as a keyword in this video but refer to it also as a "makeover" in the title.

I usually like your restorations, and this one wasn’t a bad restoration per se, but you tried to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear by making it more pig. I was a chef for many years. The purpose of a cleaver is to cleave, which in cooking is splitting between the bones on a loin or limb. To do this you need a cleaver with enough weight and to be balanced more to the front than a chopping knife. This had a very thin lightweight blade to begin with for this purpose. You took more weight of, taking away what little functionality the blade had by changing its balance more towards the handle. You have created a rather unusual single handled herb Mezzaluna though, just round the blade a little more.

Thanks for the info and thanks for watching. This was my first attempt at a cleaver. I have another one, a larger one I will be doing in a couple weeks. I will follow your advice on this next one.

Two Hands Restorations It wasn’t a good cleaver to begin with, it looked like a "domestic" one. The metal work you did was good, just not right for a functioning cleaver. 99 people out of 100 wouldn’t realise it, you were just unlucky that the first viewer was a ex chef. Your work is very good and I’m certainly not going to stop watching your videos.

Thanks for the good word. I appreciate it. I realize that I did make an error on this one. My next one will have no modifications. It will be strictly a restoration. You'll like it.

Why ruin a classic blade?

You don’t cook much do you? Never cut off the hanging hole on a cleaver.

I have another cleaver that is awaiting restoration. I promise not to modify it. The blade is worn pretty bad so I'll have to even it out but that is all I'm doing to it as far as removing metal. I've been taking heat for this one. :)

I understand the criticisms in the comments, but like your work. You almost made one of those Serbian chopping knives, however the blade is much too thin. But you’ve given me an idea!........🇦🇺👍

Is it really a restoration if you change the blade shape
