Old Marlin Spike Knife Restoration. Beautiful blue Micarta scales

Old sailor's knife or Marlin Spike Knife Restoration. I found this rusty sailor's pocket knife at an antique store. The knife was very rusty. I decided to restore it. I think the knife was made in the 1950s-1960s. I love special knives. I removed the rust and polished the blades. I made new blue micarta scales. I hope you enjoyed my restoration video.

Lovely work. I would guess that knife got chucked in a box because of the scale damage, with the owner thinking they would find a way to patch it up and never did.

I always wonder who used these knives previously, and whether they were lost or discarded. I think you are correct about this one, the scale damage would make it difficult to carry in a pocket.

Yeah he does do fabulous work however he would be able to get the rust off much quicker if he would heat the vinegar up at least about 85 to 90° it will get rushed off quicker and do a better job Hollywood need to do it some very light scrubbing with a scotch Brite pad then rinse it with distilled water dry it off covered and will anyone to worry about arresting back

10 being excellent I'd say 11 is in order. Beyond excellent restoration. It's most likely from what I've seen in all the knives I've collected and used and sharpened and fixed over the years, a person isn't likely to possess one like you just did considering your finish work is better than factory finish on 98% of everything I've used or reviewed and with better cutting geometry likely since you thinned the blades, I would bet the performance of this tool is beyond what it was when it was new. On a side note, the work you did is hand done so, more value intrinsically to this piece and it looks pristine, you should frame it. Oddly enough I was just cleaning up an old clasp knife and I turned on youtube and low and behold I see this. Thanks for the entertainment too!

I had a similar knife to this back in the late '50s. It was all stainless steel. I really liked that knife, but somehow it disappeared about the time I almost cut the end of my left thumb off using it as an axe. I still have the scar, but I wish I still had the knife, too. Beautiful job on this one!

You made the overlays from textolite. And Micarta is a registered trademark of Industrial Laminates / Norplex, Inc. (dba Norplex-Micarta), but as with many trademarks, it is often used generically for similar products from other producers, as well as homemade products.
