Having run a small band mill "Wood-Mizer" for 32 years the double cut bands must have some very tricky means to keep blade in position and not running off drive and idle wheels.

Scott Mckenzie the wheel s are crowned, or have a convex surface, and the band is under a lot of tension stretched tight so that it “wants” to stay on the wheels

cicero2 I was an engineer in charge of a very big mill(band saw wheel diameter was 4 meters) and we went from a mill staff of 40 to 3 once the new head rig was operational. Faster and safer too, with no danger of heavy lifting.

cicero2 Because the production increased several hundred per cent, these guys were all employed in the timber sorting, driving ,delivery etc sections. In fact another 20 were employed as we went from a 9 hour day to a 24 hour rotating shift system .The main business was supplying timber in 12" x12" to the Japanese.

With a 17° tilt mill your cant is always against your face-plates because your working with gravity. Also, the boards slide down better than a traditional vertical mill.

To many 2 inch cuts on your primary break down saw , and the guy bucking is not looking for grade . But I sure like the idea of a double cut slant saw .

The saw guide moves up and down depending upon the size of the log. The maximum board width is 28" because the belt is a 30" belt.
